Everyone is returning back to Hogwarts following the new year… or least mostly everyone. There are only whispers but some seats that had been full before break now sit empty and gossip runs amuck about the fate of these students; a new school or something much more deadly? Considering the rising tensions outside of the walls of the school, either scenario is just as likely.

|NICHOLAI DIMITRI IVASHKOV
Group: Order Member
Member No.: 119
FULL NAME ;;Nicholai Dimitri Ivashkov
NICK NAMES ;; Usually Nicholai, but Nicho/Nico/Niko has been known to happen.
BIRTH DATE ;; 24 March 1957
HOUSE & YEAR ;; Former Ravenclaw, now working with and for the Order, on occasion teaches piano to children
WAND ;; A 9 and ¾ of an inch long, veela hair cored, dogwood wand, hard but pliable to an extent
SEXUALITY ;; Straight
BLOOD LINEAGE ;; Assumed muggleborn
AFFILIATION ;; Order. He says there are few things more despicable than people who think they are above others based on who gave birth to them.
HAIR ;; A little wild, somewhere between brown, red and blonde. During the summer months it gets a little lighter, and a redder quality, but during the fall and winter months it’s a light to dark brown, and can’t be tamed with a brush.
EYES ;; Usually light blue, but have been known to vary into different shades of grey and darker blue
COMPLEXION ;; Pale, some would probably say borderline pasty, but he really doesn’t tan well.
BODY TYPE ;; At 6’1” he’s the type of guy who’s got long, lean muscles, making him look much less strong than he is; looks really can be deceiving. He’s a little below what’s considered “normal” weight right now, since he sometimes skips meals to work.
DISTINCTIVE FEATURES ;; He’s got some scars; three on his left knee, one longer scar on his chest, two on the top of his right hand, one in each eyebrow – sometimes visible – and an old burn mark on the back of his neck. No one ever said fighting for what’s right comes without injuries – some of the scars are from his days at the orphanage though.
CLOTHING ;; Nicholai is what people would call a dapper dresser; he likes suit pants and vests, dress shirts and ties, sometimes a bow-tie if he feels festive. On occasion jeans make it into his wardrobe, and some t-shirt can be found there too. Shoes are usually leather, and a combination of work and dress shoes. He, of course, has the suit jackets to all his pants and vests, but doesn’t always feel the need to wear them. His one constant is a thigh length black coat, come hell or high water, his coat will always stay the same – or be similar at least!
PLAY BY ;;Robert Pattinson
PERSONALITY ;; Nicholai's always been smart; it's something he's been teased about as a child, and it affected his sorting in the way of Ravenclaw once he got to Hogwarts. He likes to think he's more than just smart, but really, his quick mind is one of his best assets. He can think on his feet, see the bigger picture - whatever that might be - and make a snap decision that does exactly what he expected to be the outcome. If anyone ever doubted his being clever, all they would have to do is be around him for half a day, and they would see just what they were questioning. Though he is smart in his own right, his adoptive father and mother made sure that he got a proper education outside of his wizarding one and it has provided him with a different confidence that he quite enjoys. He loves to read, and thinks the people who say reading are for those without imagination are the ones who are without imagination. Smart as he may be, he tries not to rub peoples' noses in it, and isn't very good at bragging about himself or flaunting how things come easy to him.
What can be seen as arrogance in the young man is what some would call being withdrawn; he's not a very loud person, he doesn't necessarily voice all his opions when asked to, he can just sit back and watch while others go about their business and then at the last minute speak up for what he thinks. That's actually not him at his best - this behaviour shouldn't be taken as arrogance or pride, but he is in fact just looking and waiting to be able to make a big-picture decision and voice his opinion when everyone else has already spoken. Of course, this is bound to rub people the wrong way, and he's aware that it does. He tries to not let it get to him though, even when people call him arrogant and he disagrees. (Perhaps, without him knowing it, he actually is a bit arrogant - but that's better left unsaid!)
When not working, and he works a lot, Nicholai might go missing. And not in the way that he just takes off and decides to stay away for a while, but in the way that he sits down by his piano and forgets that there is much of a world left outside of him and that pretty piece of black furniture. It's easy for him, when playing, to pretend there is nothing evil in the world; how could there be when there is music? His creative side got him into quite a bit of trouble when he was a teenager, because he had a tendency to be absent minded and had a hard time focusing when not allowed to play for long stretches of time. Playing and writing music is his way of escaping reality - and more often than not he could use someone who understands and who can help pull him, ever so gently, back to the real world. And maybe get him to eat something every once in a while, because that too is out the window once his fingers touch the keys.
His family and friends are the people in his life that matter the most; it is, after all, for them he is fighting. A lot of his friends from school were muggle borns or half-bloods, and he doesn't like the idea of any of them being punished for something as stupid as who gave birth to them. He isn't sure, in any way, where he comes from of who his parents were and find that to be a good reason to fight. He could be any and none of the things people say, it doesn't really matter to him, so why should it matter to others? No one every said he wasn't loyal, respectful and loving - which in his eyes are all the same thing. How cna you love without respecting someone and be loyal to them? It's beyond him.
He's got a slight addictive personailty, (just take his piano playing, not exactly healty) and is afraid that he might trade his lesser addictiong, cigarettes, for something that will actually destroy him. Like alcohol, or worse. He doesn't really like smoking, and still it can be the best part of his day if he's gone a whole day without smoking. He counts it as a liability, but for the life of him, he can't seem to be able to quit.
Nicholai is naturally adventurous; he likes to do new things, see new places, try everything once and he's not afraid to go for what he wants to do. He believes in the power of experiencing the world, and though his own experience is very limit, he thinks he's the better for it and would - once the war is over - like to travel the world and see everything.

BACKGROUND ;; Born in Russia in 1957, Nicholai grew up under harsh conditions and swore to himself very early on that he was going to have a better life. Luckily, or not so lucky depending on who you talk to, his mother passed away before he reached his sevent birthday. His mother being his only living close relation the boy was put in an orphanage. Couple after couple came to adopt, and every one of them left with one of the younger girls or boys; if it hadn't been for the out of tune piano standing in the living room, Nicholai would have lost his mind - he's sure of that now.
Just about to turn nine, three couples came over from London to see if they could find the children of their dreams. As per usual, Nicholai was sure no one was going to pick him, and sat, sulking, by the piano and somehow managed to grab someone's attention with his pretty assembly of off key notes. While his wife, Francine, were fussing over one of the girls in one of the smaller rooms, Dimitri Ivashkov became fascinated with and, in his own fatherly way, "fell in love" with the boy by the piano, much like Francine had “fallen in love” with the little girl in the other room.
Nicholai and the younger girl, Natalia, came home with the couple to London, where Dimitri made sure Nicholai got some piano training. Nicholai settled into being homeschooled, focusing on learning the English language with some help from Dimitri, and had just about gotten his bearings when he turned ten. To everyones surprise, soon thereafter came a letter for Nicholai claiming he was a wizard - who knew?! Having been blessed with a good, smart and kind adoptive father, and an extremely loving adoptive mother, they made sure he got a good education, in and out of magic school, as they called it. They spent what time they had left before his entry into Hogwarts preparing him to handle himself in a school with English, Irish and Scottish children, making him aware of the differences in language there might be.
Once getting to Hogwarts, he got sorted into Ravenclaw, and he felt like he did belong there. It took him a while to get his footing, and while he didn’t do badly in school, it took him a while to understand it was okay for him to actually excel and be brilliant. When beginning his third year at Hogwarts, he no longer held back and was considered a bit of a boy genius when it came to theoretical things. Outside of school, while home for the summers and holidays, he spent his time being home-schooled; “You might need it some day, magic or not,” was Francine’s reason, and she was immensely proud of the boy, when he excelled and managed to do things in the weeks of summer other children took an entire year to learn. He did very well on all test, of both muggle and magical nature, something he didn’t like to talk about – but still flushed a happy pink when his mother and father bragged.
Upon his graduating Hogwarts, he went to search for his roots along with his father, and found there was nothing magical or special about them – something that greatly disappointed him. He was also hoping to maybe find some stray alive relative, but found nothing, and kept returning to the same archives and people he already knew of. There was nothing particular about his lineage, and he had at least hoped to find a mathematician among his relatives. To Dimitri it proved that his son really was extraordinary. It was with his mother and father's blessing that Nicholai joined the Order to fight for not only his right to magic, but for what's right, when they returned home from Russia.
HOMETOWN ;; Not counting his former hometown in Russia, Nicholai usually stays with his parents while in London or in his own flat just outside of central London - he also keeps a flat in Hogsmeade after the attack around Halloween of last year, you know, just in case.
PARENTS ;; Dimitri Ivashkov, 53, businessman who moved from Russia to London to marry the love of his life, Francine. Francine Ivashkov nee Burnside, 49, used to be a teacher at a school that got closed down.
SIBLINGS ;; Natalia Ivashkov (also adopted), 15, and still in school. He doesn’t know if there are any biological siblings, but Talia is all he needs anyway.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FAMILY ;; All he’s got is his adoptive family, as far as he’s aware at least. And he had looked for names and people he could be related to back in Russia, and kept coming up more or less blank, with the exception of those he already knew of. He really loved Dimitri’s mother, when she was still alive, and appreciate and respects Francine’s brother Emmanuel, but apart from that, there isn’t actually much of a family to know, alive.
NAME/ALIAS ;; Jenn’s been working well so far, so I’m sticking with it
EXPERIENCE ;; Since April 2010
HOW DID YOU FIND US? ;; Well, originally my friends on tumblr, I think
OTHER CHARACTERS ;; “Belle”, Mary, and Branden
|It was one thing to go without sleep when he had things to do. He willingly stayed up days on end if it was a means to an end; following someone, going across the country to help out. But he had been staying up, three days now, and had been obsessed with watching the gate to Hogwarts. Well, not the actual gate, but he had been keeping a close eye on the school, and it’s inhabitants. Which was quite the task, he had discovered, when it was Hogsmeade weekend. He remembered the trips from their point of view, but he wasn’t sure if it was the best idea for so many young, pretty defenceless children to be out there, running around. Wizards and witches, sure, but he had seen people who had been far more experienced get killed by Death Eaters in the blink of an eye. It was within his right to worry, irrational as it might be, for the kids running around the streets. He wished their laughing and joking, their fun days of sneaking in behind stores for a kiss or two, would never end. But he knew better. One day they would have to face the world, and while he wouldn’t have made a different choice if he had to do it over again, he really hoped some of them thought twice before dedicating their lives to something as dangerous as a war.|
He turned around and looked into a face as familiar as hiw own. He gave a nod, and then looked back out the window. "I thought you said you needed to think about whether to let me stay here or not." He never expected to be told to stay; it had been a while since anyone had shown any interested in Hogwarts or its students, it had been a while since the attack on Hogsmeade, and even though Nicholai thought it might be a little bit of a waste to have people there, he didn't doubt it was actually all for the better. If he was a parent of a half-blood or a muggle born witch or wizard, and knew there were people close that could protect them, he would have felt better. He caught the sight of brown locks dancing as a girl ran down the street, laughing. She looked care-free, happy. "I know what I said, and I would like to take it back, if I can." He turned around, face stern and solid in determination. "I'll miss London, but there's too much at stake here. And I am sure I can be of some use here," he said, feeling his fingers curl around the plank that was sticking out from the window. He had thrown away the dead plant that had been standing on it when he got there, and had yet to replace it with something else.
He watched the man opposite him with curiousity, his every move careful and deliberate. And then he gave a nod; a nod that would change everything, Nicholai decided.
"You should stay- that's what I came to tell you anyway."
With a smile, Nicholai shook hands with him before he left. He went back to the window, opening it to look out. He'd never really given much thought to who lived in Hogsmeade before. Guess he had to try to blend in now. He grimaced; he'd never been good at blending in.
