if i don't go for the Skaven, i may do a mainly Gobbo list instead.

basically i want a fun list that isn't going to take itself too seriously, but still keeps a theme of sorts.

this is what i have come up with so far:

Core
Night Goblins [35]
- Spears
- Shield
- Night Goblin Boss
- Standard Bearer
- Musician
- 2 Fanatics
210 pts

Night Goblins [35]
- Hand weapon
- Shield
- Night Goblin Boss
- Standard Bearer
- Musician
- 2 Fanatics
175 pts

Forest Goblin Spider Rider [10]
- Hand weapon
- Spears
- Shortbow
- Shield
- Spider Rider Boss
- Standard Bearer
- Musician
- Giant Spider
170 pts

Goblin Wolf Riders [5]
- Hand weapon
- Light armour
- Giant Wolf
60 pts

Special
Black Orcs [20]
- A huge array of choppas
- Heavy armour
- Shield
- Black Orc Boss
- Standard Bearer
- Musician
- War Banner
343 pts

Goblin Spear Chukka [1]
- Hand weapon
- Orc Bully
40 pts

Goblin Spear Chukka [1]
- Hand weapon
- Orc Bully
40 pts

Goblin Wolf Chariot [1]
- Hand weapon
- Spears
- Extra Goblin Crew
- 3 Giant Wolves
66 pts

Night Goblin Squig Hoppers [10]
- Hand weapon
150 pts

Rare
Giant [1]
- Hand weapon
205 pts

Goblin Doom Diver Catapult [1]
- Hand weapon
80 pts

Obviously there are no characters listed at the moment as ive not gone through the options, but from the point of view of the rest, is it even remotely viable?

THis list could work, but keep the 2 fanatic units close together, and keep your valuables far away from them, honestly I've seen many destroyed by astray fanatics. One time I saw this fight between Dwarves and an all goblin list besides a Wyvern boss and a unit of 20 strong Black Orcs. My cousin is amazing with Dwarves, and he says this list is the closest thing ever to beating him, but it either works explosively well, or destroys everthing in your battleline. Back on topic about the fight. The fanatics kiled the Warboss and almost all of the Black Orcs, all in the turn they were released. SO just letting you off with a warning there. Goblins are better than Skaven though, I've always hated the Skaven models.

For starters - I'm not seeing too coherent a "Night" Goblin theme, as a "Goblin" theme.

And Black Orcs hanging around Gobbos (with no other Orcs in sight) is definitely out of theme.

That aside... I think there are definitely some tweaks to work out.

(1) Save the Chariots as mounts for the characters. In the O&G book and beyond, they don't actually suck up Special Slots anymore when characters ride 'em- giving you more space for more Bolt Throwers (Gobbo lists should have AT LEAST 4)

(2) That's WAY too much gear for the Spider Riders. Keep 'em simple. Keep 'em cheap. 2 units. 5 models per. Musicians. Done.

(3) Kill the Spears on the Night Gobbos. They're expensive (33% of the base model cost!) and inefficient. With HW/Shield, you get the benefit of an improved CC save (improved by 17% to be precise). And given that there are no Nets in the units, they clearly aren't optimized for CC. And with the size/command options, they aren't optimized for Fanatics either. They're in limbo presently.

And it just takes one bad Panic check (like the kind INSTANTLY provoked by Burning Head, regardless of models in the unit) to kill both of the Fanatics before they're released.

Try this instead - 20 NG + 1 Fanatic. No command. No equipment. Just that single Fanatic. That's 85 points. You can buy 4 of those units, and still have 45 free points floating around. Plus, you'll net 5 extra Gobbos, 2 extra deployment slots, AND (most importantly!) the ability to spread the Fanatics around if you see multiple zones they might be needed. Plus, a failed Panic check means only 1 Fanatic leaves.

That seems like a pretty cool idea. It is better than jacking up 1 unit of NG with 3 fanatics, because a 30 point unit of hounds can sacrifice itself and release them where you do not want them/make them come out too early.
