Rosalyn's head swung ever so slightly and a soft hum came from her mouth as the music came out from the radio speakers--and loudly might we add. It was just loud enough to be loud but not loud enough to be considered a nuisance. Cause Rosalyn was never a nuisance you know. The brunette's hair flew all around her head as the warm breeze came whipping in through the open car window as the sleek and sporty looking car whizzed by (going the speed limit of course).
Ahh it was a beautiful day man! The bright sun, the nice breeze and the smell of the street foods cooking as she passed by the carts--man could it really get any better then this? No--no it couldn't.
Yes Rosalyn was excited. Very excited. And it showed--her happy eyes, her big smile and her happy go lucky demeanor. Yes it was safe to say she was a happy woman. And she had every right to be very excited. The trip had been so much fun, her interview had gone great and it was very likely that she would be getting a job soon. All the hard work in college was finally beginning to pay off. And she was so excited. Could you really blame her though? I mean who wouldn't be excited at those prospects.
But oh how things suddenly change. Going from happy to devastating all in the blink of an eye. It was almost cruel like that...
Rosalyn turned the radio down and slowed down as she drove past the police and ambulances. She saw the officers and the injured people. Her heart sunk. What was going on here? She didn't even want to think about this being her parents or his siblings. Her face paled a little and she swallowed heavily at the mere thought. She was soon stopped by an officer.
'Sorry miss you can't go through here,'
"Why? This is the way I get to my house. What's going on?" she asked one question after another after another. She couldn't help the rapid fire style...it was just how she worked. Not to mention the slight panic that was just beginning to seep into the back of her mind...
'Everything will be okay miss. There's just been a major attack. We're not letting anyone through. Its a disaster area right now. If you just--'
The rest of what the officer said went in one ear at out the other. Rosalyn wasn't even paying attention to what he was saying anymore. Disaster? A disaster? But that meant--her eyes shot wide open as the words finally sunk into her head. She gave the officer a 'you gotta be shitting me' type of look, "A disaster area!?" she half yelped, half yelled in surprise towards the man as she realized that her house, her siblings and her parents were now in danger...
'If you just stay put and stay calm we can--hey! HEY! WAIT!'
Rosalyn paid the man no head as he spoke again. She had simply put her car into park, grabbed the keys (though that wouldn't have done much good since she left the windows wide open) and bolted towards her house.
She looked around with jaw dropped. It was like an earthquake and a fire ripped through here. Many buildings were leveled...some were simply damaged but most were destroyed--either having collapsed or were gutted due to fire. People were all over the place injured, looking for help or looking for their loved ones. This was awful. Really, really awful. She didn't get it. There was no earthquake warning or fire warning--nothing. How could this have happened? The more she wandered around the area, the more she was panicking. Her family--her siblings---her friends--they had been in this mess perhaps. Oh they had to be okay. They just had to be okay. Please be okay. Please be okay. Please be--
Any hopes that her friends and family were shot as she saw a body half buried within the rubble of a collapsed building. Rosalyn knew exactly who that was the minute she saw him. the black hair--the kinda skinny looking build. It was one of her friends! She was on her knees and at his side in an instant. He was pale.. ungodly pale and he had several gashes to his face and neck and he wasn't moving. Rosalyn's stomach turned into ice...
"Ranger?" she shook him gently. No answer. The panic began to grow within the pit of her stomach, Ranger?!" she called to him again, shaking him a bit more forcefully. She swallowed heavily as her mouth dried a little, "Ranger!!" she point blanked screamed his name out this time. But it was no use. He wasn't moving...it was then Rosalyn had to accept that one of her best friends was dead.
... she wasn't quite sure how to take that. Ranger had been her friend since--forever man. Since grade school if we wanted to get technical here. He had listened to so many of her beefs before--just like she had listened to him rant and complain. And just like that--he was dead. Rosalyn's eyes clenched shut as she tried to force the tears back. Her head was spinning, body shaking like a leaf, stomach turning and for a moment she thought that she was going to get sick. No---no! Her friend could not be dead! He couldn't be!
But even as she tried to deny it--she knew that she couldn't. And so reluctantly she got to her feet. And just stood there...she didn't want to leave him there, but what good could she do? She was useless now. Completely useless...some help her secretary degree stuff was...
And so that was how fast things could change....
