I think Tinychat is a viable option for those that can't/don't want to install Steam.
My laptop is in repair so I'm using my roommate's desktop while he's away visiting his parents. He doesn't mind me using it, he just doesn't want me installing anything at all. I've been here from day 1 and I haven't been able to communicate with anyone other than Rad, so I'd like to use Tinychat as it's convenient for me for now. I will, however, be joining the steam chats tomorrow, Thursday at the latest. The person repairing my laptop keeps pushing the date back. Still, I'd like to communicate with other members making the game today. So I'm all for Tinychat |

Steam/forums work out well. IRC gets too confusing and some colleges (like mine) actually disable the usage of them
