Hey guys, got a little something for you:
http://www.uploadmusic.org/uploaded.php?fi...01303631789.mp3 This is a sample for a potential track we're working on for Broquest, done by the talented mister Arkweld, of whom I've made a moderator for this forum. He's working on getting it converted to 8/16 bit style, but as is its a wonderful track that would serve as a great opener. (Before you ask, yes, its a somewhat more serious track/not coherent with the bit of light heartedness we've been pushing... take that as a sign that the game won't be ALL fun and games, it will have its serious moments). If anyone else (I know a few have offered) has samples of tracks or ideas for music to put in the game, please, post it here! And I'm not sure if the engine already has built in sounds for it, but we may need SFX down the line as well. Just a heads up! |

Love the track, would definetly be a great opener.
And Devouritsskins would make cool battle themes. |

Wow this is very nice. but like you said a bit serious. but every good RPG needs has SOME moments that are sad/more calm. i think that this would make a great title/main menu screen song. but i am BEGGING for a song like This with a opening that is like Every anime opening ever made |

Loled hard at every anime opening ever, very accurate. Really good idea, also made me want to check out some older animes I've never had time to watch before. |

Hey guys, I'm the guy who wrote that piece of music up there. Probably wouldn't work for an opening theme in my opinion, it'd work better in a sadder scene.
The idea of an anime styled opening is great, something real upbeat and optimistic, that's what an opener should be like. Devouritsskins, your stuff would work great as battle music, but the thing I'm worried about is a unified sound. I think we should aim for 8bit styled music, just for the added nostalgia and charm factor. It's quite easy to convert songs you've written into 8bit mode. If you have anything that can write up .midi files you can use that (I personally use the program Sibelius) and then use this neat little program called GSCXX by Gashisoft. Makes it sound great. I'll show you an example in a bit. Also: I've had an idea. Every character will get his own theme, a song to represent him. In battle there would be a different battle theme for different areas, but the character's themes meld into the background music when it's their turn to attack. I'll also mock up a quick example of this. Also, maybe we need to find more music bros for this. It'd be a lot of work to write a theme for each character etc. Once the steam gets rolling and I come up with a few more tracks so people can get an idea of the theme I'll go fishing around /mu/ and other recesses of the internet. |

That's pretty awesome. I'm glad to see this project is shaping up rather nicely, especially in such early stages as these. |

A theme for each character sounds really cool even if it's just a little snippet for each of them, perhaps Arkwelders track would work well for the scene where the lifelong warrior bro eventually dies, manly tears will be shed.

So, looking back on this song "Ice Shiv" from freeplaymusic.com that I had to use a while ago for school, I thought it would be a perfect theme to use in an ice dungeon or some freezing place.
However, the devs of this website or the artists - whoever pulls the strings - ties everything up on the website with "Hurr hurr legal info and documentation, originul plez dun steel" for everything. Thus, I claim you listen to http://freeplaymusic.com/search/category_search.php?t=s&i=68 (Ice Shiv) and someone with the ability/talent can remake the song to sound closely alike. Just a slight suggestion. |

Well. i didiint really "make" those songs but i did help with composing ..so long story short i cant do it myself, lol. but feel free to do whatever you want with it, i kinda threw it out there as a resource. i also like the idea of characters having their own themes during their turn and stuff |

Here's an idea about character themes that I may shoot down myself later if I can't find a way for the code to support it.
Instead of(or in addition to) a full standalone song for each character, make a simple beat or melody with a unique instrument sound. Then, in battle, your 3 bros' tracks will play(either alone or under a battle theme) and make a unique sound for each unique party. So the steam knight could have a sort of machinery clanging street drummer beat, the dick thief have a skulky, mysterious bassline, and the catgirl have some twirly xylophone runs. This would take some work, but I think it could have a really cool effect that fits well with the emphasis on building different parties. |

It sounds like a great idea. I'd love to hear it in action. I still think each character deserves a song for personal scenes and quests, but that sounds amazing. The main problem I see with that, however, is we'd have to find one solid beat that no matter the combination would sound awesome. |

I managed to find another good song; however this time, it's not a bunch of legal junk, you just need to give credit to the composer.
It sounds like an amazing piece for a forest. http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/188981 |

Damn, I got stuck listening trough her tracks, quite a few are really good. Raindrops of a dream would be perfect for a water level. |

Here's a quick thing I've cooked up recently. I still think it needs some looking at, some revisions here and there, but I think it's a good idea of what the end product will be like. Right now I'm working on a mock up of the whole character themes layering over battle themes thing. I know there hasn't been much activity in a while, but I'm really hoping we'll pick up the pace now! |

I'm really liking the sound of this. Like you said, there could be a few changes, but I'm finding this completely acceptable. |

Made another yesterday, hopefully for the use of the boss in the demo. That's what I was thinking yesterday. I think I'm making these too short for loops, you'd get bored of them. So I'll think I'll stick to the basics and make them all Chorus Verse Chorus Verse Bridge and it loops after that. Also, would it be fine for the programmers to have two tracks per zone? And intro and then the loop? The intro would play once and then the loop straight afterwards which will continue to repeat |

Ark, both of those pieces sound great. I don't see how there are any little things that need to be tweaked, but you're the musician, not me. Nice work.

Artists will always see more flaws in their work than anyone else. Even people who are just as knowledgeable in the subject. Especially painters, they'll see soooo many imperfections when it looks gorgeous, you know?
BUT STILL, I MUST STRIVE FOR PERFECTION, FOR THAT IS MY DUTY |

I feel you, bro. I'm an artist only as a side-hobby, and think all of my drawings suck. And I always try to find ways to improve them.
