Welcome to Tribal Weyr! We are a semi-canon Weyr. We are Threadless and set on the Southern Continent in an alternate future from canon Pern, racked by war and civil unrest.
~~~~~~
It has been turns since the now deceased dictator H'yr and his army attacked the Tribe. The North has all but fallen silent in infighting for succession, and the Invasion has fallen to the backs of most minds in light of brighter events. The dead have been mourned and we have lived on.
However, not all is quiet in the South. Long-laid plans are crawling to fruition in the shadows, and an unseen enemy is prepared to strike at the heart. The North will not remain quiet. It's time for the other shoe to drop.
Dragonriders of Pern belongs to Anne McCaffrey. Premise is the brainchild of both Night and Sprinkles, so please no stealing. Characters belong to the individual player. All art belongs to their creator, most is cited, if not it's likely it belongs to Night. Mira did the background, titlebars, and one of the banners.
Dragon and wher pixels are most likely based on those done by khiitan, likely with edits by either Mary Seif or the sprite's editor.
Wher face edits by Mira.
All right, here's the deal: We need some new tattoos from the Siege. Mainly, a kill count design, as in: the stickers on college football player's helmets, or the painted symbols on WWI and WWII fighter planes to tally their hits, or the rings that Tribal dragons have when they bring in a candidate. This should be something unique to the purpose, however, and since it's very new...GET CREATIVE! =D
Entering this contest will require a picture! It doesn't have to be epic in skill, as the design concept will be the thing that people vote upon. Write a description, and then hash out a pixel with some MS Paint doodles on it to show where the tattoos would be placed, and a general idea of how they'd look. Want more detail? Add a little "zoom" pic with as much detail as you'd like, and keep the full-body pixel there as well for reference.
PRIZES:
First Place - Character bragging rights for coming up with the concept + In Game gift of choice (dragon-leather jacket/or equivalent dragon-leather item in value, or shiny new weapon, or found a thumb-sized precious stone, or found a large orchard of ripening redfruit) + 100 marks/or Unique Flit.
Second Place - In Game gift of choice (dragon-leather boots/or equivalent dragon-leather item in value, or shiny new weapon, or found six fat wherries trapped in a bog) + 50 marks/or Unique Flit.
Third Place - In Game gift of choice (dragon-leather belt/or equivalent dragon-leather item in value, or shiny new weapon, or found a small grove of fellis) + 30 marks/or Unique Flit
So this is my design....
Basically, the tattoos would be on the wing. This would hurt a bit more than normal tattoos, however, because it is an issue of pride I do believe that the dragons would happily receive them. The marks that are like \ mark 5 kills, while the X marks 10 kills. The half circle on this brown's wing means that he killed a bronze as well. If they are between a 5 or 10 marking, then they would recieve dots. So, for instance, if a dragon has killed 7 they'd get a :\ as a marking.
The Tribe is a family. They protect each other with their lives. They will never let one of their own get hurt without someone paying the price. The strength of the Tribes bond is like an eternal flame, it will never go out, it's warm and full of life, and anyone who desecrates their home or kills one of the Tribe will get burned. Bad. To represent how many dragons have been killed this is my tattoo. For every enemy dragon killed the dragon receives a flame to show that they have burned the enemy and protected the Tribe. The tattoo is represented on the wing membrane. It can be anywhere on the wing really but common places are the top and bottom edges of the wing. Most flames vary in size to represent what color dragon was killed.
I spent a few hours playing around with coloring tattoos to determine the color of the dragon killed, but I couldn't find anything that I liked. I wanted to make something that would show up nicely on the pixel dragons, and without making it huge I can't get colors bright enough to be visible on all hide tones.
So I decided location on the wingsails would be a better option for determining color variations. The dots are kind of boring, but anything else was too much detail for such a tiny pixel, so I decided to just use them for reference. As it's the number and location that tell the story, you could technically change the dots to whatever you wanted. Little mini dragon tattoos, blood drops, disembodied heads, the eyes of those you've slain staring out from between and calling your victims to join them. Anything your little hearts desire, so long as it is roughly circular in shape. Each dragon and rider combo is encouraged to come up with something that reflects thier personality, and scares the crap out of the enemy.
The underside of the left wing is marked first, then the underside of the right wing. Should both those locations fill the tops of the wings would be marked. (And the dragon would be worshiped as GSD himself.) Any dragon who can earn 5 markings is considered an Ace.
Here it is. and to decode it?
Base of the wing: Green Under the first wingspar: Blue Under the second wingspar: Brown Under the top wingspar: Bronze Tip of the wing blackened: Queen, bands would be added should a dragon be good enough to kill more than one queen.
So this brave little brown above has killed 5 Greens, 3 Blues, 1 Brown, 2 Bronzes and a Gold.
Okay, so I wanted to have the markings be progressively more visually striking, and I mixed up the locations a bit because I like being complicated. These markings can be personalized with color and form. They can be pink, yellow, purple, tapered slashes, curving blades, claws, fire, a line of trundlebugs, or whatever floats your character's boat.
Markings start on the right wing, then the left when that's filled up. Only the Queen Kills go on the top of the wing, and they start on the left wing first. All other kills remain marked on the underside of the wings. Should your dragon manage to fill up his wings like a serial killer...then they can do whatever they damn well please to add to the markings. That's just ridiculous, and they earned it. XD
Map Key: - The main wing spar mast is used to tally green kills with hash marks that don't circle the mast completely. - The largest sail is for bronzes, making the display the largest. - The center sail is for browns. - The leading sail is for blues. - The top side of the wings, tracing the spars is used for golds. The first gold kill would be a mark running the entire length of the main wing spar mast from 'fingertip' to shoulder. Any more gold kills would be marked along the top of the other wing spars.
This brown has killed 6 greens, 4 blues, 2 browns, 3 bronzes, and 2 golds.
You are also free to edit your entry to add details, modifications, or even to add more entries! While you can enter more than one idea, you can only win one prize. Should one person win First, Second, and Third place when the site votes, we'll just keep going down the list to hand out the prizes so three members get loot.
Mine...took a good chunk of inspiration from certain P-51 Mustang paintjobs, and kinda went from there.
The 'necklace' of squares signifies a chromatic kill. You manage to off a blue, green, or brown, you get a square. This can extend all the way across the neck and/or chest, up to the point where the cobra hood-type tattoo is.
The cobra hood (or tunnelsnake hood, whatever ) is for metallic kills. The outside stripe signifies a first metallic kill in general, and inner vertical streaks mean queen kills. The dots inside of the hood stand for bronze kills.
The spikey wing thing is general 'baby's first kill' mark, and more likely to be seen in the fighting wing than anywhere else; it likely originated in Inferno, but it can be seen on any dragon that wants a flashier signifier of their first kill of any color than just the neck tattoos.
