Welcome to Tribal Weyr! We are a semi-canon Weyr. We are Threadless and set on the Southern Continent in an alternate future from canon Pern, racked by war and civil unrest.
It has been turns since the now deceased dictator H'yr and his army attacked the Tribe. The North has all but fallen silent in infighting for succession, and the Invasion has fallen to the backs of most minds in light of brighter events. The dead have been mourned and we have lived on.
However, not all is quiet in the South. Long-laid plans have crawled to fruition in the shadows, and an unseen enemy has struck at the heart, killing the Weyrwoman C'zek and kidnapping candidates. The North will not remain quiet. It's time for the other shoe to drop.

Dragonriders of Pern belongs to Anne McCaffrey. Premise is the brainchild of both Night and Sprinkles, so please no stealing. Characters belong to the individual player. All art belongs to their creator, most is cited, if not it's likely it belongs to Night. Mira did the background, titlebars, and one of the banners.
Dragon and wher pixels are most likely based on those done by khiitan, likely with edits by either Mary Seif or the sprite's editor.
Wher face edits by Mira.

Okay, so I wanted to get everyone's opinion on this. We have a few fairly intact dragon carcasses left after the siege, and of course we want to be all creepy and cool and make leather out of the hide. First order of business when dealing with a hide...you have to either work it like NAO before it begins to rot and collect all manner of flies and maggots. OR, you have to put it in a freezer, or preserve it somehow to keep it from rotting till you can work with it.
Considering the South is currently dealing with a food shortage, a lot of injured people, the near mass-destruction of their home...I'm preeeetty sure that leathercrafters are going to be prioritizing and just trying to rebuild and survive rather than getting together to make lovely clothes.
S'yal came up with the idea of taking the carcasses between to a natural freezer. The south pole, or into the high mountains where there is snow all year round. This gives us the opportunity to at least have the hides available at a later date by people who can get to them. Obviously, with all the trouble you have to go through, these would be very expensive items.
Next order of business! WHO GETS THE DRAGON-LEATHERS? Personally, I'd like to have them be a rare item, and not just because of the difficulties I wrote up above. It's a unique item, and I think it would be cool to keep it as one. If you killed the dragon, you automatically get leather from the hide for whatever you'd like. Oh! And no cheating, yo. You want to kill a dragon and have it's body not go between, it has to be RPd out IN GAME.
For the rest of it (and there is a LOT of hide on a dragon), what do you all think of the idea of having them as prizes for contests? Or gifts for special occasions In Game? Like...wedding presents, or achieving your Master in a craft, etc. We could even put them up in the Weyr Store if it seems like a good idea.

I really love this idea. Mira probably couldn't bring herself to take anything made of dragonleather, I doubt C'del could either because North is so young and it would just make him feel kind of sick thinking about it.
Still, this is such a cool idea and it would freak the shit out of the northerners.
The southerners are monsters, man. THEY WEAR DRAGON HIDE.

I LOVE this idea!
The natural freezer works very well, and I like the idea of dragonhide going first to the riders who made kills, perhaps with the ones making the most kills having first choice.
The rest I can totally see getting stretched and tanned and stored away for other special uses. The flits getting collars would be cute, though I think--besides Snow and V'rge's brigade--the ones who killed other dragons were led by Zhasa and were wild.
As far as my characters go, Zhira wouldn't say no to something made out of a dragon tooth, though now I'm beginning to think of the concept of Ivory. THERE IS NO IVORY ON PERN SO DRAGON TEETH = PERNESE IVORY!!!
It'd be awesome to have a knifeblade made from carved dragon claw.
I know Vaeya would want something out of dragonhide, but since she's a Healer and did no fighting, she'd be low on the totem pole.
Having the remaining hide be contest prizes would be cool, I think. Especially, if said contests were IC. Like the chili cook-off! And using dragon meat would probably not be above the standards of people currently going through a food shortage. Dang it, now I have an idea for Weihiveth Chili.
Hence why I said "creepy and cool". XD I like that it would stir up some moral dilemmas and drama with characters. Using human bits and pieces isn't unheard of in Earth cultures. Some prized it as war trophies, symbols of status, or powerful magic. ie: shrunken heads and scalps (though, technically, the French introduced scalping to get the Native Americans to kill their enemies...and paid them for each scalp. But, hey! They absorbed it into their culture!). It'll be interesting to see the conflict. =3
Though...I am so super hesitant on the eating part. XD I suppose it's up to the individual, but that might be stepping into downright cannibalism territory.
*flails* The South is a huge continent, the whole place didn't burn down! There are herds and food out there, it's just gonna take more effort to find them. ...which would be kinda cool for mini-plots and rp. HUNTERS, EARN YOUR KEEP, DAMMIT!! Anyone bringing back food would be paid well. It's a great way to earn you some marks, yo.

Hmm. Lh'ek would flail miserably at the whole business, and he wouldn't eat dragon meat. Ever. Because he wouldn't be able to keep from visualizing Modoth on that plate.
Mafalda says she wants a dark brown dragonleather jacket. Markings optional.
Rajan thinks the whole thing's kinda creepy, really, but he'll eat dragon meat and wear dragon leather if he has to. Also he kinda thinks he could make some good marks out of making dragon ivory necklaces.
Aside from all that, I really do think this is a good way to freak out any Northerners that dare attack. Especiall if harnesses get made out of this stuff. Think of it: a dragon harness patchworked out of the hides of your kills! Very visible, and very "oh shit" inducing. So. Yeah. I definitely suggest riding gear made of this stuff.
Oh, and say V'rge gets a hat made of Weihiveth. Some new Northern Candidate asks about the hat and why it has a metallic sheen.
Promptly gains a new fear of V'rge when he learns why.
Yeah. Good intimidation tactics.
(Also, medical texts used to be bound in human skin. So. Yeah.)
Adding in to say that I like this idea, and that none of mine would have any qualms about wearing or eating dragons. V'rge, at least, has eaten worse. He ate his favorite runner as a kid! Some northern bastard is nothing. :P
