Ah, Cacal Meadow. Such a wonderful place, truly. A place where a passing wind would rustle ones feathers and tickle the hidden skin beneath, where the stars shone really well over the cusps of the mountains...but more important, the best place to find a leftover meal! It just sat there so beautifully, it really did. A nice, plump rump of a...was it white-tail? Elk? He couldn't tell; sat near a scrub, old blood crisping up around it. Oh, yes, it looked rather nice; a rare find, too. Why some smelly pack of wolves abandoned it was beyond Ahas's comprehension, but there was no need to asks questions when dinner was about to be served.

Flying in on a chilled breezed, he plotted himself down upon one of the only remaining furry parts of the carcass, cawing exults of joy as he went. Throwing his weight from foot-to-foot for a minute or so like he was getting comfy in his perch, Ahas grabbed and tore away strips of rotting meat, strips of ligament, too. He tugged and tugged and tugged on the tough meat, grunting along as he back tracked to get better leverage (well, as much as a scarcely two pound bird could get). Ahas of course bit off more than he could chew and would tussle with the strips like they were spaghetti for a while before ever getting it down the gullet.

With the last snow drifts of winter hanging about, the ground was moist and the air heavy. The weather was rather foul, grey blankets covering the sky like some permanent overcast. Really, it was mucky and the only things making a sound was the crow and that porcupine who snorted as he walked through a shrub. However, Ahas was agitated as he had lost a tailfeather earlier that day and was bleeding from his bum for quite a time. Now he just mumbled and grumbled to himself as he ate, praising whatever god that he was alone.

Too bad that wiff of something that wafted into his nostrils told a different tale.

Damn.
