Star Wars Devastation is an AU Star Wars RP set in a loose cluster of planets surrounding the Core Worlds. The timeframe for the RP is 755 ABY, though referred to in game as 1 ACD (After Coruscant Disaster). Canons as you know them never existed, though the galaxy unfolded in much the same way, barring the Vong Invasion.
The main differences in the setting are that force users have become more prevalent, though the Orders binding their loyalties have all but evaporated. Alongside this the two largest factions prior to the boards setting were the Galactic Confederacy (a greedy galaxy-spanning empire) and the Free Sectors (a collection of rebellious planets and sectors seeking freedom). The two had been locked in a war for over 160 years, all for control of Coruscant and the rest of the Galaxy.
Centuries of war, loss of information and the emergence of larger numbers of force sensitive persons has left the face of the Galaxy quite different. The religions of Jedi and Sith, the knowledge they held and the fear and respect they aroused in the citizens of the Galaxy has been all but eradicated. The closest memory to Jedi is that of the Jekorian, a strange and mysterious cult shunned by all and thought of as being little more than a refuge for the insane.
The war for Coruscant had been crawling along at the same glacial pace up until the beginning of the board's timeline, at which point just about any sense of stability in the Galaxy was thrown out the window as factions were broken down and merged and new borders were drawn on the star charts.
It all started in 754 ABY, with an event which came to be known as "The Coruscant Disaster".
754 ABY-
It was the start of a new solar cycle, the Senate Chambers on Coruscant were filled with diplomats and senators, all trying to carve out their own little portions of the Galactic Funding for the cycle ahead. None of them imagined what was coming, none were prepared. This cycle was to be the end of a prosperous era for the galaxy, the end of a particularly nasty divide between the two most prominent factions in the galaxy. The Galactic Confederacy and The Free Sectors had been at each other's throats for eons.
In the opening months of the cycle a tragedy befell Coruscant, an unknown ship with strange markings collided with the planet whilst in hyperspace. The resulting fallout and blast damage to the planetary shield not only left Coruscant weakened, but the following radiation managed to kill a large percentage of the population. It was the worst thing that could have happened at such a delicate stage in the cycle, with tensions rising between the two main factions such an opening within the defences of the core of Galactic relations.
As if the havoc and destruction wreaked on Coruscant by mass radiation poisoning wasn't enough, people began to die under very different circumstances than was normal for radiation poisoning in the following days. These deaths, though small in number at first soon escalated and widespread panic gripped Coruscant. There was large-scale evacuations from Coruscant, refugees spread out from the planet and without realising it, carried a super virus further afield, infecting the entire Inner Core.
In the end, billions died. Worlds were left deserted, the galaxy was in all-out panic. The Senate had dissolved with the fall of Coruscant, the world rendered useless by the contamination, both radiation and the virus. It was in this time that some of the luckier members of the Senate who had fled before becoming contaminated with the virus managed to rein in the remaining governors and what was left of the military arm of the Confederacy. These Senators then struck up a deal with the Free Sectors, a reformation of the entire Galaxies governing force was enacted. The large-scale disaster that struck Coruscant was essentially responsible for a shaky peace settling over the galaxy.
1 ACD-
It was with the combination of two very distinct forces, the destruction of the entire Inner Core and Coruscant's fall that the galaxy came to be ruled from Arkania. This had been the planet that the majority of refugees had travelled to following the fallout from the Coruscant Disaster. It was from this seat that the Core Remnant Republic was formed and that plans to both identify the virus' origin and makeup and to then destroy it were drawn up, aided by the, if arrogant, ultimately useful Arkanian genetic engineers.
The Core Remnant Republic is now dedicated to these two goals, with the eventual goal of resettling Coruscant and the Inner Core. Providing they manage to hold the rest of the galaxy at bay long enough to establish themselves as a dominant force.
