THE PERSONAL THOUGHTS OF ADELAIDE GIANNA DE LUCAAdelaide does not/cannot keep a journal. Emiliano refuses to supply her with something so "worthless". Instead, she has a small wooden box she keeps under the false bottom in her travelling trunk. She's sure he must know about the box, but it's the one thing he doesn't make her hand over. Either it's because he's forgotten about it, or because he can't find it. She doubts that if he knew where she kept it, he'd allow her to keep it. It's an old box that she was given several years back. It had held a pretty necklace from a besotted client but Emiliano had taken and sold that. She'd kept the wooden box and has since recorded her thoughts on scraps of paper, when she feels too overwhelmed and needs to let it out, and stuffed them in the box. The papers aren't in the best condition, nor are they in any sort of order. The box is, in a sad, pitiful sort of way, almost a friend and the only one she has at that.

april 2 1912,
note to self; do not get attached.
getting attached is far too dangerous.
the last thing I need is more trouble to deal with. the last thing I need is to feel vulnerable.
so for my own sake, it’s important that I keep a cool head and a strong distance from the world.
right?

april 5 1912,
A city-wide picnic and masquerade?
Of course Emiliano is making me go.
Someone is frantically getting a dress ready for me.
Something that shows off enough skin so as to make my purpose obvious, but not so obvious that the respectful Londoners have me cast out. It’s a delicate path to walk.
This isn’t going to go well.
I can feel it.
