Walking out of the van in his BPRD field agent "uniform", Benjamin peered around at the scene and shook his head slowly. Such devastation, and on so large a scale... It was heartbreaking and yet it stirred an anger inside Ben that few had ever seen. He didn't let his cold fury show, but kept his face utterly impassive. In his human form, as he almost always was when around other agents or in public, he brushed his black hair free from his face and surveyed the dead being loaded into the trucks. Whatever did this, it had to be stopped. This horde of creatures needed to be halted before a widespread panic set into the city.
Hearing his name being called out, he turned his head to see Nadia standing over a manhole and looking down into it with a flashlight. Closing the gap between himself and Nadia, Ben stood at her side and peered down into the darkness along with her. There was much to do, and the fact that the horde of monsters had gone down that manhole led him to the conclusion that they were not just beasts; they were sentient creatures.
"Keep the light on, lass. I think we're expected." He leaped down the manhole and landed with a solid thump at the bottom of the hole. He drew his pistol and leveled it at the stretch of darkness beyond, his own dark eyes glinting for just a second before they rapidly adjusted to the inky blackness of the sewers. It stank, but the odor was not of fecal matter so much as it reeked of human blood.
"Careful, Nadia... I have a bad feeling about this..."

Freezing, Ben looked over the cavernous sewer as quickly as he could, holding his breath to try and hear the noise. She was right, there was some strange sound coming from within the darkness. Slowly, he exhaled so softly that it was inaudible even to him, and then took a solitary step forward. Silently, he signaled for Nadia to stay close, and then moved ever onward.
The noise came again, louder this time than before, and Ben reacted just as the darkness stirred. There was a blur of movement, and something sharp sliced through his shoulder just as he sidestepped the attacker. The wound was shallow, but it burned intensely. The noise became defined then- it was a steady growling of several creatures. Perhaps several dozen.
Wincing, Ben brought his gun up just in time as one of the shadows leaped at him. Squeezing the trigger, the gun bucked and sent a .357 bullet directly into the skull of the creature, killing it instantly. At this, the growling intensified, and the shadows stirred even more restlessly.
"Nadia, I could use a little help..." He said quietly, feeling the burning on his shoulder and in his mind.
