Another day, but at least it was sunny. Joseph smiled to himself as he began to navigate the many streets which littered the kingdom. He was heading to his usual haunt. The main square. It was one of the busiest places around, and was always a hive of activity.

While he walked, Joseph hummed under his breath whilst playing with the metal catch on his leather bag which he had slung across his body. It held the essentials of today, an apple for lunch and a piece of bread he had made earlier that week, and also his juggling balls and clubs. It was the usual haul, he was trying a few new tricks today. Testing the crowd of regulars he usually had.

Eventually, he made it to the dusty square. It was still early in the morning, but shop keepers were setting up and the blacksmith was already at work with a queue of farmers outside his door. Joseph had a silent friendship with these people. He had never spoken to them before, but they all trusted each other’s selling space as each knew how hard it was to get the money now-a-days. Joseph guessed he wasn’t lonely, he had his own company and that was about it currently. He sometimes found it hard to gain friends, as most of the entertainers moved kingdoms a lot to keep their performances fresh and exciting.

He made it to his usual spot and took off his bag, resting it on the ground. Following this was his coat, underneath was his shirt, a simple thing made out of loose material as the weather was warming up. He crouched down and retrieved the juggling balls out his bag. Made of leather. They were his most prized possession, they were one of the first things that inspired him to start entertaining after his failures at school.

He began to juggle simply at just 3, then he flicked another up by his foot and joint it into his juggling ring. He was just getting warmed up really, making sure his reflexes were up to scratch as to not drop any of them later.

Nimue was out wandering again. It seemed that was all she had been able to do since she arrived. Ivy had been wonderful and had let her pick up some of the cooking and cleaning duties around her building but Nimue felt she wasn’t doing nearly enough to repay the other woman. Meeting Decebal not so long ago had given her an idea and that morning, as she had done her chores, it had solidified in her mind. She would find Dec and get him to teach her some tricks, some talents she might work for an audience. Surely he would help her out.

So, she had set out once her chores were done, in search of her new friend. Of course, he was not where he had last been and Nimue was not brave enough to talk to the woman he answered to so she was walking the streets in the hopes she would stumble upon him. There were people out once again and she was beginning to know their faces but she did not approach them, was not quite so brave just yet. Still, she was learning her way around.

Coming into the square where, she knew, some people came to sell their wares often and give performances, Nimue sighed when she did not spot him. Moving further into the square, Nimue slipped between people, having grown somewhat accustomed to their pushing and shoving and found herself in front of another performer, an older man as he tossed leather balls about with ease.

Stepping to the side and out of the way of the main crowd, Nimue watched a moment and smiled. She would rather like to try such a thing but did not know whether or not he would be receptive to the idea of teaching her. He had to make money after all and that she could most definitely understand. Cupping her elbows in the opposite hands beneath her breasts, she watched as the balls moved from his hands to his feet and back again. He was fast and very good. She offered a shy smile as she watched.

Joseph had been juggling for around 15 minuets doing the same warm up routine when some people finally began to make their way over to him, if they were here, it meant he was doing the right thing to gain an audience. A woman was among them, he had seen her a few minutes ago being moved along in the crowd as many other were. She seemed out of place, that she didn’t yet know how to navigate the streets, but he wasn’t one to judge. He’d seen people that looked as if they couldn’t sing a single note but had shocked him with their voices.

She seemed interested as she watched, a small smile spreading across her lips. Joseph wasn’t entirely sure how to react, so he acted any entertainer would. He grinned back in response to her shy smile and caught the juggling balls, 1 in one hand, 2 in the other and one on his nose before letting it roll off into his hand. He was showing off, he knew that. But you wouldn’t make any money unless you showed your talent. He let the ball roll of his nose and into his hand before placing the 4 balls onto the floor. He walked towards the woman and did the oldest magic trick in the book. Removing a coin from behind someone’s ear, it was one of the first he had ever been taught, it only took a bit of sleight of hand for it to work. ‘A coin for the lady.’ He said, bowing and handing her a coin. On the streets he was an actor, letting his alter ego come forwards, a man who was confident and didn’t care what people thought of him. Unlike usual when he sometimes found it hard to talk to new people. He moved back to the area he performed in afterwards, aiming to return to his usual routine.

Feeling like a child, Nimue could not help herself when her eyes followed the balls and she laughed, delighted with his antics before she could smother the sound with a hand. She had seen a few performers since she had arrived but he seemed more comfortable than any with what he was doing. She was amazed by how quick his hands worked with the balls and he seemed perfectly at ease tossing them about and catching them on his nose.

Nimue flushed at his grin. She felt silly, surely he was not grinning at her, after all, she stood amongst a small crowd but she felt her face heat regardless. He was charming and she was not used to dealing with charming men. She did not know how to react when he approached her but her smile did not waver, in fact, became more present when he magicked a coin from behind her ear.

‘A coin for the lady’

Nimue felt the flush spread from her cheeks to her throat and she ducked her head but accepted the coin. Her mouth was dry and would not work to thank him. As he went back to his performing, she squeezed the between her fingers and shook her head slightly. It was not very valuable but she would not be keeping it. She had nothing to give him for his show but he would have his magic coin back if she could help it. Had he had a hat or anything to toss the coin in, she would have but, as it was, she would wait until his performance was over with.

Of course, it may have been an excuse to remain and watch his entire act but Nimue would not say so out loud. Her face was heated enough already. She wanted to learn something from him but she was also quite interested in watching the man himself. He was such an enchanting performer. The small group about him seemed to agree or, she supposed, they would not be there to watch him.

Ooc: Sorry for taking forever to reply.

Joseph watched the flush spread across the ladies cheeks after he had given her the coin. He always interacted with the audience, he found that it put him in their good books and they came back another day to see him perform again. And hopefully donate some more money. Although, money wasn’t everything to Joseph, he would much rather see people’s smiles when they were happy impressed. On the other hand, this could change as time went on, if time went on and life became hard.

He carried his performance around 15 minutes more, carrying on as he usually did, his eyes darting back to the woman every now and then, grinning slightly as he saw that her face was still slightly flushed. Eventually, he finished and was awarded with a round of applause. He bowed as he always did. ‘Thank you.’ He chuckled, ‘I’ll just be taking a break before restarting in half an hour.’ He told his audience, he knew he wouldn’t see them all for the rest of the day, most likely, they would be heading of to carry on whatever they did with their lives. Farming, selling, making items. The list could go on for ages.

He sat down on a step just behind where he was performing, he sat down and took an apple from his bag, beginning to take it out and take a bite of it. He had picked it on his way here from one of the orchards which he lived nearby. He loved it here in this city, it actually made sense. There was much going on a lot of the time, apart from the rebellion. But attacks by them were rare and spread far apart. No one was usually hurt during them. It was only the royalty under threat.

Nimue applauded with the rest of the crowd when his show came to an end but, when the others moved off, obviously to continue their day, Nimue hesitated. She turned the coin in her palm and gave a crooked smile to herself. She ought to keep it, he had given it to her and, although it wasn’t much, she could still use it, put it towards the future but… but she felt bad, watching him and not giving anything in return. Of course, plenty of others hadn’t given anything but they’d probably been around longer than her, maybe even donated before.

She watched the man as he sat and pulled out his apple and her eyes brightened. She loved apples but hadn’t realised there was anywhere to get them around here. It was a stone city after all and the vendors did not always have the nicest-looking fruits. Of course, she was lucky to get fruit at all back where she was from.

Swallowing her nerves, she stepped up to the man then folded herself onto the ground, sitting on her knees as she held out the coin, pinching it between her fingers. She bit her lip through her smile.

“You do this every day?” she asked, gesturing for him to take the coin. It was his after all. Nimue eyed the apple and decided, should he prove glad to talk to her, she would ask him about the apple too. Plenty of people had told her she was too questioning, always wanting too many answers but she had not let that stop her so far. How was she to learn if she did not ask?!

I’ll ditto that. Sorry it’s been so long and is so short.

OOC: I’m never reading through my last post again, so much bad grammar! –faints-

Joseph stared at the dusty floor while he ate the apple, not wanting to look his old audience in the eye. Sometimes, he became embarrassed about what he did for a living as it was…different, to what the other men his age chose to do with their lives. Some were guards, some were blacksmith’s, some were merchants. These job’s were the ones the men prided themselves on, boasting about it to others, but none of these would fit Joseph’s life, his personality even. To say the least, he loved his job, as it meant he wasn’t kept inside all day, taking orders from people. He was his own boss, he could do what he wished with his act.

He hadn’t realised the girl he had given the coin to had approached until she sat down in front of him, he shuffled back a bit in shock, not knowing why she was here. She held out the coin to him, he waved his hand vaguely. ‘No, no, you keep it.’ He answered with a smile. ‘And yes, this is my job.’ He nodded, taking another bite of his apple and chewing on it, thoughtfully. She seemed to really want to give him the coin back, but he was positive she shouldn’t.

‘Do you want one, an apple?’ He asked after spotting her staring at it. They weren’t that common around here, really. But they were nice, and if you found them you picked one. Simple.
