Welcome

A coastal city on the shore of the Mediterranean's gleaming, turquoise and tempest waves, she is arguably much older than Rome's fabled founders, Romulus and Remus; far more steeped in traditions that beat like a heart's torrid rhythm, pounding out every step in a forbidden dance of desire.

She is Pompeii. And she is an all-devouring Mistress. Mother to all form of satyr and nymph, where the wine flows freely and the Dance of Syrtos never ends.

Voices of Pompeii
Graffiti inscriptions left upon the walls and doors all around the city are one of the ways in which the Pompeians expressed themselves - and often humorously. The graffiti was very popular here and was most often written in the common Latin Vulgaris.

Some Random Observable Facts About Your Character:
Marius Salusti doesn't care much for women, finding them almost irritating. His privacy is highly guarded, in that he doesn't ever reveal much.. even to those who've known him for years. He is a Roman Citizen by birth, the son of a noble patrician. He has, at times, been muchly mistaken for The Moralist.

Personality:
Marius Salusti is a very dry and almost humorless stoic. Most people do not like him, and of those who DO like him, he doesn't often like them back. He rules his home, his business affairs, and his slaves with an iron fist. He has but two House Slaves -- Agricola, an elderly fellow whom he inherited from his father's estate in Rome and brought with him to Pompeii, and Damos, whom he purchased on a whim from a Cretan auction block, and has regretted ever since! The rest of the slaves report to Agricola and labor in Marius' extensive vineyards just a mile north of Pompeii on the hilly slopes overlooking the Bay of Naples.

History:
The only son of a wealthy Roman landowner, Marius Salusti inherited his father's entire estate which he sold for a hefty sum upon the elder fellow's death, and promptly moved south to the flourishing city of Pompeii. Upon his arrival ten years ago, he purchased a large parcel of land just a mile north, as well as the sprawling villa that once supposedly belonged to a Dionysian cult of Maenads. Legend says that the land was blessed with an overabundance of best-quality grapes due to the fertility rites the secret cult engaged in. And while it makes for an entertaining rumor, Marius doubts its validity. The land owes its fertility to an ancient eruption of Vesuvius nearly one thousand years ago -- long before the Trojan War, and even long before Homer's great Odyssey.

Excerpt From a Kept Journal:
"Not one red Semis more will I squander on that foolish thrall of mine, who has cost me years of exasperation. I would throw him to the streets in a heartbeat, were it not for this wretched guilt he would heap upon my head like burning coals. Would that I could simply reverse time and leave him where I found him, chained to a Cretan's auction block.. so that someone else may have the dubious misfortune of having him under foot and thumb. And yet in the few times I have traveled to Rome without him, not a day goes by that he isn't in my thoughts, vexing me to no end. I don't know how he does that."

QUOTE
"Hello, brother."

It has been over five thousand years since they've last spoken, let alone even looked at one another. Semjaza, who is right behind Azazel, lays a land over the other Watcher's shoulder. Theirs was the biggest rift since the war waged over ten thousand years ago in Shamayim. And while there may appear a cordiality between brothers for this one night, there is by no means, any loss of bitterness in Semjaza's heart.

"It was good of you to come."

Semjaza glances about the entire scene unfolding, stretching outward into sulfuric clouded oblivion. The workers -- those poor deluded souls who've wound up in Hell without respite, bustle about the event, catering to every newcomer. Not allowed to wear the faces of depression and melancholy, lest they are dragged away and beaten for disobedience, the workers seem overly exuberant as they mill about in greeting and the commencement of ceremonies.

Unlike Azazel, Semjaza has no remorse. No lingering sentiments for duped lost souls. Nor any desire to return to the Creator. No, he would prefer death to submission. Destruction over surrender. For there is nothing but evil continually in his heart.

As he glances around, still standing behind Azazel, the Watcher's prismatic blue gaze rests upon the form of a young woman, almost as if he is captivated by her masked beauty. Though he will not demean himself by making a beeline toward her. Semjaza is far more guarded than that, devising ways to lure a chosen one to himself, instead. It has been over ten thousand years since he has taken a human woman to himself and cleaved unto her. Ten thousand years since lust once filled his heart.

"How is every little thing down in the pits of Gehenna these days?"

Semjaza finally moves about before Azazel, hand still draped over the other one's shoulder. And now they see eye to eye, even as the Angel of Light briefly lifts away his sequined mask. He isn't smiling, though his countenance isn't exactly filled with wrath, either. There is a certain stoicism in the angel's expression befitting the diffused ambience and his dark, understated clothing. A tuxedo with tails, replete with a blood red carnation boutonniere pressed near his lapel.

"Perhaps you'll get lucky and lure a woman into keeping you company."

It's what the event is all about, afterall. To place a longing, a deep seeded longing into the heart and soul of someone special, to lure them into taking that eternal and unforgivable plunge into the depths of the Inferno. Fuck Dante! What did he know anyway?
