The mid-day sun glowed bright and warm over the large hotel complex that consumed most of Route 213. It was relatively balmy today, and fluffy white clouds floated easily in the brilliantly blue sky overhead. This close to Sunnyshore, the weather was typically quite gentle, although it did have a habit of long rainstorms as well. Maybe the weather wasn't going to hold as long as people might have assumed-- on the horizon, out at sea, there was a line of dark clouds. Should the north wind prevail over the day, the storm would be upon the resort by night.

All sorts of pokemon and their trainers were out and about, enjoying the weather while it lasted. Many played on the beach and held practice battles, took walks along the shoreline and played in and out of the waves.

And overlooking them from a rocky outcrop near the hotel's western edge was an unusually colored, ragged Absol, his paws crossed in front of him and icy blue gaze shifting from trainer to trainer. A little lady and her Marril darted about, and he smiled faintly to himself. He really did enjoy watching the humans and their pokemon play and enjoy the company of one another.

Shifting, he glanced over his shoulder at the grassy patch behind him. A Chatot he had made friends with fluttered up and perched on his horn.

"Good afternoon." He grumbled lightly to it, and it sang a little tittering song in response. In stark contrast to him, it was quite young, just a fledgling. It's adult plumage hadn't even grown in all the way yet. He shifted his head back to look down at the busy beach carefully, as to not let the little thing fall off, and let his gaze drift to the horizon. That storm wasn't going to be fun when it struck. The clouds were dark and thick, and he could tell the whole cell was picking up momentum and ferocity over the sea. Not disastrous by any means, but there would be a goodly bit of new driftwood on the shore come the morning. For now, though, for now the day was going to be pleasant and kind. He'd take the chance to enjoy it as much as he could.

Pythios had just woken up from an impromptu nap on the beach; his royal blue wings were coated in gritty sand and bits of seaweed were meshed in between his toes. The crimson-headed dragon rolled over and yawned, stretching all of his limbs to their full extent. He gazed up at the bright afternoon sky and watched as the cottony clouds rolled lazily onward. It was a beautiful day, nonetheless, but he could spy a few gray rain clouds in the distance. They approached slowly, however; he figured he'd have nothing to worry about if he hurried on in towards the city before the storm came any closer.

Reluctantly, the lethargic Druddigon rose, yawning once more before setting off towards the hotel on Route 213. The staff and employees there were always quite friendly towards him and offered to let him stay on stormy occasions such as the present day. They fed him, too, which was always a major bonus. His trainer had abandoned him recently so he was left to fend for himself, a daunting task for a Dragon-type with the intellectual stability of a Magikarp. He couldn't help but feel obliged to follow around trainers and their Pokemon as if he was a member of their teams. A small woman accompanied by a Marril shooed him away after he'd leeched onto them for quite a ways. He was tempted to go back to the beach and sleep once more, but then he recalled the oncoming bad weather.

Taking a few steps forward, Pythios paced himself as he made his way towards the large hotel, subsequently tripping over a small pebble protruding from the earth's surface while his focus was directed elsewhere. He landed face first, of course, but it didn't seem to deter him much. His concentration was averted from his clumsiness by a flock of Staravia navigating the skies overhead. The scaley creature couldn't help but smile; he waved at each and every bird flying above him though receiving no responses from any.

"Hi birdies!" he exclaimed, a wide grin escaping from his gaping jaws. "Teach me to fly like that!"

A small commotion on the beach drew his attention, and pale blue gaze fixed on the bumbling dragon. His brow furrowed slightly, and he watched carefully from his perch, claws raking lightly against the exposed earth idly. What on earth was he doing? Carefully, he canted his head to the side. The Chatot on his horn squawked in indignation and took wing, and he grunted apologetically, watching it leave. He turned his attention back down to the Druddigon.

What on earth was it doing here? Sure, in recent times he'd seen more and more of the pokemon from far away Unova showing up here, but they were almost always with trainers. Did he have one nearby? Or was he just running about without one? And if so, if he was chasing after those poor Staravia, asking them to teach him to fly, did he fly here, or stow away on something? Confused by the actions of the dragon-type, he mulled over the pros and cons of approaching him. He didn't want to get spotted by anyone on the beach, but a keen eye that bothered to look up the hillside would see him there. He wasn't making an active effort to hide, he was too preoccupied with people watching.

After trying to chat with the obviously uninterested flock of Staravia, Pythios wandered idly, forgetting what he had been doing in the first place. He had a sudden inclination to do something adventurous; maybe he'd try to fly today. Yes, that's it. He would try to fly! He'd of course first need to find a point of elevation high enough to get some good momentum going. Luckily, Route 213 was littered with rocky ledges and grassy hills; it'd be an easy task for him, and that's saying a lot considering his level of intelligence. Why, just in front of him was a winding dirt path leading up to the highest point this side of Sunyshore; only the bravest of the brave even dared to traverse up that road. It was said that a monster resided at the very peak.

Excited, the Druddigon stomped up the dirt path as fast as he possibly could, tripping many times along the way, with his mouth wide open and his eyes expressing the utmost amount of delight any dragon ever could. By the time he was three-fourths of the way there, he'd become tired and his pace had slowed significantly. He was panting heavily with his tongue lolling out of the corner of his mouth and his spike-clad arms were being dragged along in the dirt.
"Tired," he said aloud, approaching the peak. "Too tired to fly. Gotta nap first."

It took him a while, but he'd finally noticed the red Absol lying on the bluff, overlooking all of what was happening on both Route 213 and Sunyshore. Pythios approached the oddly-colored creature with a goofy smile plastered on his face.
"Hi!" he exclaimed. "Are you the monster that lives here? Do you eat humans, like the rumors say?"
