There is so much controversy surrounding this movie, I don't know if it's more good or bad. Of course there are the obvious extremists that go a step too far with the religious beliefs and such, but should one read the next two books, an illumination on their spastic nature comes through. Of course what they decide to do about it is waaaay over the top, but an element of truth plays in through it.

Anyway, in the first one there is nearly none of that controversial element regarding Catholicism and such, so I don't really see why they are so nasty about it, then again they convicted such books as Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter for similar reasons.

But my question is, did you like the movie? I found it enchanting and lovely, and though a few certain elements were messed with, I found it easy to love the characters, (and hate of course) and a fantastic adaptation overall. Your thoughts?

Northen Lights, not The Golden Compass. It's not a compass, really. We all know that.

Sorry for being so English XD

I really liked the book, not seen the movie, but read the movie story book to my little sister, and was not impressed by all the stuff they had missed out or changed. I'll still go see it though XD

I think it's another one of those, "If you've never read the books you'll fall in love with the movie" situation.

Actually the book is entitled Golden Compass here in the US. Heh, I like British folk, so no harm done there!

I know it is, but I still think Northen Lights suits it better, as the actual Aurora is the real focus of the book.

I see what you mean about the title, and I think it's a mistake at all for extremists to make so much hype about the movie; it's only going to give it publicity and make it even more popular.

Good point. I mean really, for example in the Harry Potter situation, they bought thousands and thousands of the books for the soul purpose of burning them on a pile of rubbish and chant around them...I mean, their only giving the business more fuel to burn. And honestly, that's such a small percentage that I doubt it makes too much of a difference.

I've always liked the name Northern Lights better--just mentioning that they call it The Golden Compass in the US. ;-)
