Ooc; This is based off of The Golden Compass, the first of three in the trilogy His Dark Materials. However Lyra has nothing to do with this plot, but you will find the main character has many of Lyra's qualities...

Note to Maevie: ææææææææææææææææææææææææ no more here. =]

Ic; Arthæona gazed out of the glazed window, her eyes as far away as the scene in the window. A man spoke dully in front of her, and all three of her best friends sat in desks of finest mahogany wood much like hers, a similar expression adorned on their young faces. Vadger mewed distractedly, his tail flicking from side to side. Vadger was her dæmon, a sleek tabby coat covered his mottled brown paws as a large house cat. Will with Xaphina, Lucan with Vera, and Raiela with Docar.

Will was thin, lanky, and tall, with sweet blue eyes and a slight lisp. At times he was clumsy, tripping over things or else dropping glass items that shouldn't have been dropped. At the same time, Xaphina is exactly the opposite. Whatever form she takes, she is regal, sleek, and loyal. Lucan is shorter than Will, but certainly not short. He is handsome, well spoken, and an all around gentleman in the most childish sense. Vera is quite the same. Her favorite form is a fox, for they are daring, sly, and beautiful in every way. She is as well spoken as Lucan, and doesn't waste an inch of it. And then there is Raiela. She is the one that always gets them out of trouble. Well, her or Lucan. Lucan is always the one to reassure, while Raiela is the one to look up at their target with her humongous blue eyes and perfectly proportioned face. Of course Docar is always the one to give her away. He has slitted green eyes and a sly smile, no matter the form.

And then, of course, there is Arthæona. She is more or less their leader, with long golden hair that falls to her waistline. It's as straight as it can get, and she often ties it in a side ponytail. She is the prettiest of the bunch, that doesn't mean the others don't have their uses. She has bright blue eyes, not quite as big as Raiela, but their quite big enough. Her dæmon, Vadger, is kind, generous, and slightly mischievous at times.

But at this moment, no matter how beautiful, sly, courageous, or cute any of their faces were, they were all solidified into an expression of utter boredom. Mister Srael was their English teacher, and he was rambling about something called a 'predicate.' The particular subject put Arthæona in complete and utter boredom, so she was currently drawing a rather crude drawing of her slaying a Panserbjørne (icebear). Proud of her work, she showed it to the line, and whispered to Will, who was sitting directly next to her, "Pass it on!" This was all done, of course, as their teacher, Mr. Srael, shuffled around with some papers mumbling something about 'befuddling the teacher.'

An hour after their lesson, the four children raced out and went to their first and favorite destination: the rooftop of Jordan College. All the dæmons had a separate race, and they were cheetahs, or any fast cat they could think of, prancing ahead of their owners by several feet.

When they had all safely crossed the Room of White, (what they call the ballroom with all it's white washed walls and ivory china) it was Arthæona who led the way out of the window and across the barrier with it's thatched area of roof. She knew the area so well she could point out exactly which fireplaces belonged to which rooms, making her eavesdropping skills better than anyone at Jordan.

Then she jumped, as someone called her name. She feared it was an adult, but it sounded like a child...

Maia stumbled over the roofs, her dæmon, Callum, close behind in the form of an ocelot. "Arthæona, wait!" she cried, trying to move quickly without losing her footing. When she slipped, Callum would be at her side as a falcon, grabbing the back of her shirt with powerful talons to hoist her to her feet.

Maia was short and stocky, though she somehow looked like she still hadn't grown into her limbs completely. Her skin was well-tanned and her light green eyes, colored like the underside of a newly opened leaf, seemed to glow. Maia's face was quite pudgy, but she was in reasonably good shape. Her sandy-blond hair streamed out behind her as she tried to catch up.

"Arthæona, I thought I asked you to wait for me yesterday!" Maia cried, gasping for breath. "You know my class is farther from here than yours." A tone of exasperation slipped into her voice. It seemed like they repeated this every day, like some sort of ritual. Then again, it did seem like Arthæona was trying to avoid her at times.

OOC: Sorry, not my best. I didn't have a ton of inspiration.

ooc; ack! this has been long coming. please excuse the lateness of my reply. school, man. it really keeps your priorities up in the air. x]

ic; Arthæona's eyes squinted as she tried to make out the voice. Then, as they spoke another word, she realized who it was: Maia and Callum. Ah, well. She would be nice and let the girl play with her. Sometimes Maia got on her nerves just a little bit, but her intentions were good, and she really was a sweet girl. Callum kept her in line whenever she got a little over the edge.

"Maia! Come and join us! I'm so sorry I didn't wait for you...if you're too mad to come, I understand." But she knew Maia would come. She worshiped Arthæona and her lot for the most part. This time, however, Arthæona was feeling genuinely kind, and almost wanted Maia to come. Vadger, at her side, turned into a little spider monkey and nuzzled deep into her neck. It gave her comfort; and even a little guidance.
