WELCOME
Welcome to NESM, the New England School of Magic. We are a modern-day, real time Potterverse RPG.

There was Harry Potter.

There was Hogwarts.

There was everything in “Wizarding Europe," but no one really tells the story about Wizarding America.

This is the story of one Wizarding school in America and the students and teachers within it’s doors.

Fionnghuala and Aiden appeared to be some of the last people to arrive, though she couldn't say that she could see anyone that she knew. But then, the school was about 4000-strong, from what she had heard, so there was no way on God's Earth that she had ever met all of these people, much less spoken to even half of them! Everyone knew she wasn't the talkative type, and so didn't try to talk to her. Those that did recognise her, though, stopped in their tracks, and stared at her, before starting to mutter to themselves.

Aiden stooped slightly to whisper to her. "Ignore them. They're just talking about how stunning you look." At that, Fionnghuala reddened slightly, nodding a little. She stopped at the photographer, and they posed for the perfect prom photo. The only problem was, when she'd look back on that night, and at that picture, she wouldn't be able to recognise herself. Not that she wanted to. She probably wouldn't even remember the name of the guy she went with, along the line.

Fionnghuala and Aiden stopped just inside the room, out of the way of any entering couples, and looked around in awe. The normally open stadium now had a ceiling that was enchanted to reflect the night sky which was, for once, relatively clear, and very starry. The decorations were silver and white, if they didn't light up, and there was even a white carpet. The domestic instincts that she had picked up while on her own immediately said "That'll be murder to clean tomorrow", though she laughed at herself and shook her head.

"Would you like to dance, or sit down?" Aiden asked, without any warning. She jumped a little, shaking her bangs out of her eyes as they got displaced. She deliberated over an answer for a while, watching the tiny little fairies flitting around the room, their laughs tinkling as their fairy dust scattered in the air, then winked gently out of existence. She didn't really want to dance.... Not really. She hadn't danced in ages! But then, she didn't want to seem the wall flower, sitting at the table all night. And she didn't want to sit in amongst all the people that she didn't know. At least, not until another couple that she knew had arrived, so they could all share a table. She just hoped that that couple wouldn't be Phoebe and Jackson, much as she still wanted to remain their friends.

Remembering that Aiden was still waiting for an answer, she looked over at the string quartet, who had just struck up with a new tune; a waltz. Specifically, a tune that was very commonly associated with the Viennese Waltz. This was a dance that she knew, as some of the steps were very useful in defensive steps that she had been taught by her tutors. Of course, no-one needed to know any of this information.

She didn't answer him with words, but slowly led him to the dance floor, gently moving into the correct hold and getting the feel of the music before starting to dance.

At the end of that dance, she stepped away and curtsied to her partner, as was customary, and he replied with a bow. With the pleasantries done, Aiden led Fionnghuala back off the dance floor to stand and watch a while before they sat.

Aiden excused himself, seeing the flowers, and the fact that they were on sale. For a moment, Fionnghuala was left on her own next to the large glass archway, and she saw that several more coaches and carriages had pulled up. Bracing herself, she expected the worst, and, though the first couple weren't people that she knew, she knew that the people that she didn't really want to see could still appear.

Kat was rocking out in her carriage. She listened to her headphones, grinning as the music pumped through her body. She was going to meet her best friend at the prom later on, if she decided to go. Other that that, Kat was alone for the night. At least for now. She felt the happiness flooding through her, she just knew that she would find someone to dance with tonight. Maybe even more. She grinned and plucked the headphones off of her head, slipping out of the carriage as it stopped. She posed for the crowd, twirling like the princess she thought she was. She bounced once at the end of the spin and hopped once before walking into the dance.

She paused for the photographer, flirting with them a bit and posing like a model. It was just the perfect night to go stag. She would get her pick of dates. After that she continued on, taking in the decorations with a wide-eyed look of amazement. The confetti seemed to fall right onto her, flowing through her skin and spreading warmth as it did so. She closed her eyes and quietly celebrated the feeling. Then her eyes opened again and she grinned bashfully at those who had been watching her dance in place. She moved on.

As she made her way through the crowd, she was looking for anyone she knew, or someone she wanted to get to know. Her eyes alighted on Fionnghuala Ramsay, one of the Drama Club members. The girl was alone, and Kat knew enough that she wasn’t as comfortable with it as Kat. She grinned and sauntered over to her with a grin on her face. She followed Fionnghuala’s gaze as she approached, looking back towards the entrance. A pouty frown appeared on Kat’s face as she reached Fionnghuala, turning upon her fellow thespian.

“Waiting for someone?” She grinned. The two had met several times, both were in the upcoming presentation of High School Musical. They weren’t exactly friends, but they barely knew each other really. Kat smirkingly wondered if they could get to know each other better. She didn’t bother waiting for a reply from Fionnghuala, instead grabbed her hand and started dragging her towards the dance floor.

“Nope, no pouting and sitting around. We’re having a good time tonight. So shut up and dance.” Kat laughed and began to dance with her, more of a hip hop style than regal. It was in complete contradiction to the classical music that was actually playing.

Fionnghuala breathed another sigh of relief as the second carriage stopped at the other side of the glistening, transparent arch. She did this because it wasn't a couple of people that got out, or even a group of people. It was one single person, and the people she was dreading seeing wouldn't come in that fashion.

She took a closer look at the girl as she stopped at the photographer. Fionnghuala knew who she was. After all, they'd been in rehearsals for High School Musical, or whatever the stupid play was called, for quite a while now, and she had noticed that neither of them had ever missed or been late for a single rehearsal. Now that was dedication. Especially as it wasn't even a performance that Fionnghuala had wanted to do. Ah well. At least she didn't have to sing all of the stupid songs in it. She, oddly, felt sorry for those that did.

“Waiting for someone?”

Fionnghuala jumped. Katerina had shocked her out of her train of thought, and it was one that she was probably never going to get back. Not that she was going to try extremely hard to get it back anyway. "Ummm...." She frowned at the question. Well, she was, and she wasn't. "Well, I'm expecting people to come, but I don't want them to come.... But I'm not waiting for someone, if that makes sense." She answered, furrowing her brow as she tried to think of a better way to phrase it.

"How's this? My date's over there, but I was looking out for my ex and his new belle, both of whom are meant to be my best friends, so I'm supposed to be happy for them. That make it any clearer?" She asked, gesturing over to Aiden at the appropriate point, though she didn't look over to see what he was doing. Lucky, really, because he was near the front of the queue for buying the roses. In fact, while he was standing there, he was wondering exactly how to present it to her, and what she'd do with it once she accepted it. Was there a chance that she'd de-stem it and pin it to her dress? Could he make it into a sort of brooch himself?

Katerina didn't seem to listen to her answer, as she was physically dragged by the small girl onto the dance floor. For a moment, she just stood there, awkward and confused, watching Katerina dance in a style that was almost opposite to what was being played. Fionnghuala tried to pick up the beat, ignoring all of the slow dancing couples that were surrounding them. In her head, she doubled the tempo, and grinned as she started to dance freely.

"Did I really look that pathetic and dismal that you felt the need to save me from standing there?" Fionnghuala asked, raising her voice over the music, and the chatter of the other couples that were either dancing, or entering under the glass arch.

((OMG - I totally wanted to write 'proscenium arch' all the way through that. >.< ))

((OOC2: And OMG, I'mma kill myself if I don't start getting this right soon. >.< Wrong account again.))

Kat listened to Fionnghuala’s response, completely ignoring the gesture towards Fionnghuala’s date. Kat could care less, unless he wanted to dance with them. She explained that she was keeping an eye out for her old beau. Kat knew who it was, after all Phoebe was one of her best friends. None of this was new to her, other than the fact that Fionnghuala had a date. Not that it mattered. Fionnghuala started dancing with her and she grinned, giving all the boys around her a coy look.

"Did I really look that pathetic and dismal that you felt the need to save me from standing there?"

Kat just shook her head with her eyes closed and kept dancing. She grinned and spoke, arms above her head.

“No that’s not it at all.” Her eyes opened and she grinned at the other girl. “I was alone, you were alone. I wanted to dance, and deep down you wanted to dance. “ She shrugged and smiled a bit more. “Plus I’m kinda antsy tonight and I thought you would look good pressed up against me. On the dance floor of course.” She grinned again, smirking at Fionnghuala. “Or later. Whichever is good with you.”

“I was alone, you were alone. I wanted to dance, and deep down you wanted to dance. “

Fionnghuala had to laugh at that. "I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. I'm not much of a dancer." She responded, though she continued to dance, a little more self-consciously.

“Plus I’m kinda antsy tonight and I thought you would look good pressed up against me. On the dance floor of course.”“Or later. Whichever is good with you.”

By the time Katerina had started to speak again, Fionnghuala was laughing quietly for no apparent reason other than that she was finally doing something she wouldn't normally do, and being a person that she could have never been before. "Hey, makes no difference to me." Fionnghuala shrugged, smiling lightly as she quirked a finely arched eyebrow at the younger girl. She hadn't known that Katerina 'batted for the other team', for want of a better expression.

On the other side of the stadium, Aiden was just walking away from a woman, a silver rose in his hand, behind his back. He turned to go to the arch, where he had left her, and was shocked to find that there was no-one there. He looked around, his eyes sliding over her twice before he recognised her with a vivacious and different character on the dance floor.

Casually, he strolled up to the two girls, and, hearing the tail end of their conversation, he stopped before he got close enough for Fionnghuala to want to cease any activities that may occur in the moments after a conversation such as that. Basically, he wanted to see them make out, but he could hardly admit that to himself. Instead, he stayed a respectful distance away until he was certain that nothing untoward was going to happen.

Tapping Fionnghuala's shoulder, she stopped dancing, with an almost annoyed look on her face.

"What is it, Aiden?" She asked, as politely as she could manage. As he held out the rose to her, and gave her a curt bow, she felt almost guilty. "Thank you." She graciously accepted the flower, pulling her wand out of her bag to lengthen the stem, and make it wrap round her waist with a seamless meeting point where the end of the stem and the base of the flower met after wrapping around the pink fabric. The flower stayed there, on her left side, though it wasn't totally on her side; just enough that it could be seen from all angles.

"I'll get us a table." He responded, gesturing over to the cluster of tables. "Please, invite your friend to join us after you two have finished your dance."

At that, he left Fionnghuala and Katerina to it, seating himself at the table next to Jackson and Phoebe. Well, in his defense, he really didn't know any better.

Fionnghuala quickly got into the swing of things again, picking up her dance where she left off. "Hey, Kat... You wanna join me and Aiden on our table? He's a total bore, please don't leave me with him!"

So Fionnghuala didn’t seen against her ideas. That made Kat happy, though a bit of a struggle might have been fun. Oh well, everything seemed fun as the drug coursed through her body. Maybe Fionnghuala was already well experienced when it came to being with girls. That took another bit of the fun from the situation, being the one who corrupted the poor girl into her first lesbian experience. Again, it was a loss but not a great one. Kat could honestly care less, as long as she got her jollies by the end of the night.

Of course by that time her date had shown up. Kat gave him an appraising look, not particularly hating what she found but not particularly liking it either. He was a guy. Fionnghuala liked guys, just as she liked girls. But she didn’t like to mix them. In the same manner that she loved chocolate and lasagna, she didn’t want to eat them together. Besides, she wasn’t here to give him a show. She caught his name as Fionnghuala addressed him, continuing to dance as they talked. Everything just so right tonight, there was a warmth inside of her that she associated with true happiness.

He walked off, offering a table to them as he went. Kat just shrugged and kept dancing, waiting until Fionnghuala addressed her directly. Kat considered the option of going over there with Fionnghuala. On the plus side she would be one step closer to removing Fionnghuala’s dress. On the negative, she would be hanging out with her date the entire time. Eh, she had nothing better to do.

“Sure, why not.” They made their way to the table and Kat sat down. She boredly turned to Aiden and spoke. “Why don’t you go get me a drink Skippy?” She smiled sweetly and waved her hand dismissively.

“Sure, why not.”

Fionnghuala breathed a sigh of relief. At least she didn't have to sit alone with Aiden. She felt like she didn't have anything in common with him, so they'd be stuck for conversation, and she sure wasn't going to do anything with him in order to break that silence. That meant that, if they were alone at their table, there would be silence and an atmosphere that could be cut with a knife. And that wasn't good. "Thank you so much!" She exclaimed over the music. "You have no idea what it's like with him." She groaned, rolling her eyes. "Seriously, don't get him started on his job." She advised, shaking her head in remembrance.

The dance finished, and they made their way slowly off the dance floor, winding around the groups and couples that were still dancing. Those couples mostly consisted of loved up couples that were doing more smooching than dancing, but Fionnghuala could hardly look appalled at that.

Sitting at the table, she could hardly help noticing who was sitting at the next table over. She struggled to find the positive, though, eventually reasoning that, if she didn't recognise herself, they weren't very likely to either. There was silence at their table, and so Fionnghuala cleared her throat uncomfortably, glancing at her two companions.

“Why don’t you go get me a drink, Skippy?”

Aiden looked, surprised, at Katerina. He should have known that her attitude was the sort that she didn't care for guys that stayed around all the time, and she expected him to do whatever they asked of him. He wasn't going to be proven ungentlemanly by a girl that couldn't even be bothered glamming herself up for what was meant to be the night of her life. He nodded at her, curtly.

"Sure. What would you like?" He asked, gesturing to the bar, and looking between the two girls.

Fionnghuala suppressed a grin, and then answered with barely a second of thought. "Bloody Mary." It was the most difficult cocktail to make, and few bartenders were skilled enough to make it, and it could very easily be made wrongly, and so she could send him backwards and forwards to get the bartender to fix it.

Aiden nodded, showing that he'd heard and understood what she wanted, and then looked at Katerina. As soon as she gave her order, he stood up, greeting a few people that he didn't know, but had to get out of the way of.

"So...." Fionnghuala started. "Skippy?" She laughed, cocking an eyebrow. "Where did that come from? His name's Aiden."
