Title: Are All Of Your Character Gorgeous?
Description: Just curious

Sly - October 4, 2010 10:00 PM (GMT)
i know a lot of people try to make their characters as pretty/handsome as possible, while others give their characters bigger noses/smaller eyes and stuff. So I was curious, neopound, do you make your characters movie-star amazing, or normal/average?

Sun - October 4, 2010 10:46 PM (GMT)
I, uh, find this a rather difficult question to answer? My main concern with designing my characters is making them distinct from one another, rather than making them attractive per se, so I'm not sure how to rate how attractive or how flawed I aim for them to be.

Then again, most of my characters are anthros with beauty standards different from ours, so something attractive or cute to them might be unattractive to them.

Also, I myself have rather unusual concepts of attractiveness. (J'adore big noses, for instance.)

NONE OF MY CHARACTERS ARE HANDSOME/BEAUTIFUL DDD:
HOW DO I ANSWER THIS

-flails-

I, uh, I have a hard time thinking anyone is ugly or unattractive to begin with so this is a little difficult to answer. I do have several characters of different body types, facial structures, etc. though the ones I have kicking around lately have all been cute scrawny girls, whoops.

Unattractive to me would be gross, unclean, bad habits kind of a thing -- and I can't think of any of my characters off the top of my head who doesn't bathe or anything.

Soooo while most all of my characters have something kind of gross about them (I had a gamer character who would sometimes take "Febreze showers" so they wouldn't have to bathe and could keep on their unhealthy obsession, ew ew ew why did I even think of that I don't want to know) I am just gonna go with "all my characters are beea-uuuuutiful"

i only have one character
me
because i am a character

so i answered the third option
just to be up front and all
in the interest of honesty

man i don't have know how to answer this!!! beauty is so subjective

like sun said, my main goal with most characters is to make sure each one is distinct. i don't really think "wow this character is going to be THE PRETTIEST OF ALL THE GIRLS"

sometimes when looks play an important part in their character/plot, i will make a conscious effort to try to design them to have some features that are generically associated with attractiveness (or lack there of). even this is kind of hard to do since again... beauty is subjective!

i mean like i have a girl character who is kind of chubby and pale, with messy dark hair and glasses
which i suppose could be considered a pretty flawed appearance! but tbh i find that look kind of cute so i really don't think of her as flawed

(i need more chubby characters derp, but chubby builds really don't work for my plots, which involve very active people. its kind of hard to explain why people who spend all their time running around fighting and having adventures somehow manage to be overweight grrrr
/ramble ramble)

fff like Sun said, I just try to make my characters look distinct - face shape, physique, etc
and also have physical traits that suit their characters.

Like I will occasionally decide 'oh guys dig her at first sight because she's kind of a looker' or 'man this guy is just menacing-looking and tends to drive people off even if his personality isn't really like that' or something along those lines is to some degree integral to their ~character~, and then try to design them around that.

I can't list any characters off the top of my head that have 'GORGEOUS' or 'FLAWED' as a defining character trait though. This probably means that I don't have any of that description... lD

edit: OH YEAH and like Hearty said beauty is very subjective so. /nod
That's probably why I can't make those definitions with my characters at all.

mine arn't ugly but none of them are what you'd call 'models', Valt's a shortie, Spy is upsettingly thin, Phie is stocky built with a small chest, Nate's missing an eye, Jeffery styles his hair rather unwell for his face and yea.....
I think my only 'total pretty' is Doomsally, but that's intentional to parallel off of her attractive but not 'omg' sister Frett :3

sorry if this was hard to understand, been running off starbucks and soda for a few days now XD

i meant beautiful to you.
like, if you find someone beautiful, do you (consciously or unconsciously) add details to your characters of that person?

like personally, i based the looks of my charrie cohdy off my rl friend cody(who has a srs bsnss face, which matches neocody's peronality), and my character Elle ended up looking like my friend rachel (who is amazingly beautiful). and i didn't know until she pointed it out.
and one of my friend's uses supermodels to base her charries looks on.

so really, just think of what you find attractive, and see if your characters have any of those physical characteristics?

Sun - October 5, 2010 12:25 AM (GMT)
I find all of my characters aesthetically pleasing in one interpretation of that or another.

swiftstart - October 5, 2010 12:37 AM (GMT)
yea I like the looks of all of my little fellows :3

Heartless - October 5, 2010 01:04 AM (GMT)
man i hate the way some of my characters look
just cuz its so hard to draw!!!

but yeah i find all of my characters aesthetically pleasing in their own way
i mean if i did not
i would not want to draw them
and that would be counter productive imo
i don't find them all SUPER PRETTY but they each have features that i enjoy none the less

Pidgey - October 5, 2010 01:15 AM (GMT)
Oh. Yup I totally do that. :V /shameless

Many of my characters' appearances are formed from one cool thing and the rest kinda falls into place. Usually it's hair or the nose or a cool jawline (I like jawlines, no matter how many of my ladies have puffy cheeks :I), and color themes play a big part to me too. I find all of my characters to be total Hottie McHotbods 'cause I love stuff like big/crooked noses and inconveniently placed moles and stuff.

Is it just me or do I sound way too tolerant, like I'm trying too hard

~*~*EVERYONE IS BEAUTIFUL*~*~

(that's just how I really feel okay jeez)

DictatorEuro - October 5, 2010 02:12 AM (GMT)
I still dont know how to answer this XD

the only character of mine that I find remotely attractive is Paul XDD

fleurdust - October 5, 2010 09:52 AM (GMT)
Idk, my characters have Neopet designs *lol* So Breckli does have a big nose but then, she is a Blumaroo, it is not her fault ;___;

The most humanoid of my characters are the Krawks I'm applying for. And I think I consciously designed Lucci to look very perfect. he's modelled on those ladyboy anime characters which I usually *never* draw - so really stick thin and pointy and big eyes and lots of hair. personally I'd not find that attractive but I suppose some might?

Cahris though, cahris has the kind of figure I would look for ^_^ in a Krawk-boyfriend that is. o.o

I'll be quiet.

Mine are animals? Lol

Can't say I've ever looked at a dog and went "HOT!"

I never thought about attractiveness when designing a character. Usually personalities come first and I put a design with the personality/story. Jaxxtor for example is pretty messed up, because of radiation exposure when he was little. Ris is dead. Cat is a pirate, been in many fights and has tons of scars and pretty much only owns one set of clothes which is gross. I think I have a few pretty chars though like Kay! And Zeke is handsome. :-)

MissDrew - October 7, 2010 07:02 PM (GMT)
Nah. Mine are all pretty ugly ;)
