Several years ago, the story of a freak, historic natural disaster hit the nation's airwaves, engulfing a small town in California called Sunnydale (BTVS). They said it was a massive earthquake that reduced the town to a crater. But evacuated residents said it was something more. Something weird. Supernatural. No one listened. Maybe that was a sign.
NOW, WE ARE ALL BELIEVERS.
It all started when every TV in the nation aired a historical story.
Helicopter footage of the war zone entered every TV and computer screen in America. Reports gave little information, but the TV footage could not lie. Creatures that people only wrote about in horror stories were attacking the city of LA (derived from 'Angel'). Vampires? Demons? The government was quiet and vague as they addressed the country - but everyone could plainly see the truth - these creatures existed. This moment is known as The Great Revelation (TGR). "All is shown to be."
People tried to go about their daily lives during this historic time. But curiosities about vampires began to peek, especially in the media. As if on queue, a team of Japanese scientists came forward, mere days after the LA story, with something they've been working on for years - synthetic blood. "Tru Blood." A compound that enables vampires to drink blood without having to hurt humans.
The news of Tru Blood spread fast. As a result, vampires came forward on national television and revealed themselves - coming "out of the coffin," as people began to say. Shockingly, different types of vampires, with different characteristics, even came forward.
One race of vampires (the "Ugentas") had an organization to represent them called the American Vampire League (AVL). They said vampires came in peace, thanks to Tru Blood. And to prove it? Vampires had gone to LA to fight for humanity. With such powerful reinforcements, LA was stabilized, but remained an uninhabitable disaster zone.
Vampires got into the government's good graces after that. Policies made attacks against vampires illegal. Any unorthodox uses of vampire blood (V, which can serve as a narcotic for humans), were also illegal. Many began to warm up to the idea of vampires being a part of society. Soon, vampires started fighting for constitutional rights. Of course, the nation was divided. But for several months, vampires continued to fight for integration. For equality. "Darkness lives amongst light."
This idea of vampires being friendly was short lived.
One day, an ancient vampire named Russell Edgington went on a nation-wide news program and killed a reporter, ripping out his spine. He proclaimed that vampires are killers and essentially threatened the human population. Panic spread throughout the nation. Time lessened the blow of Edgington's outburst, especially with the AVL playing damage control. For a while Russell was assumed captured and killed, until he made an appearance at an AVL event and was - according to the media "neutralized." Still, vampire crime and attacks continue to keep people on edge and the nation polarized about vampires.
Over the course of the Revelation's aftermath, people began to flock to NYC. Why? Many simply claim that it is because New York has a "diverse" population (vampires are abundant, and people want to be a part of history). But in reality, a mystical, powerful force called a Hellmouth (brought forth by TGR) is drawing people near it, and people are largely unaware of its existence and influence. "Many drawn towards the gate, they will move without sight."
Out from the Hellmouth came The First Evil(derived from 'BtVS') and Lucifer (derived from 'Supernatural'), also unknown to the world at large. "The purest evil rises from the pit"
