It would have been so easy for him to rip this upstart to shreads just for the insult alone, but hearing the slayer dismiss him as well there was absolutely nothing he could say or do when it came to slayers they always had a single goal in mind-killing. Which was why he supported them wholeheartidly despite their attitudes which varied from generation to generation. This one though she had something the girls never had the will to press on no matter the risk. Which was why he was loath to leave her especially with this unsavory character, who by all rights looked as if he fit into "the worst kind of predator" category, which was never an easy kill.

Mikael stood there for a moment hands in his pockets his cold blue eyes sizing the predator before him up once again with a kind smile and decided not to waste his time conversing with him instead he redirected his attention to Buffy."Then have a care there are far worse things on the prowl tonight."he paused looking in Killians direction as if to put even more emphasis on his warning, Mikael knew that she was a bright girl and she could probably handle him but he couldn't help worrying for her safety. " ....Soon." He looked Killian in the eye as he said this, there was no hint of a threat just a promise. And with that he turned on his heel and walked at a brisk pace at first and he was quickly gathering more and more speed until he was nothing more than a blur.

He was calm, not sweating the Slayer in front of him. Maybe he hadn't been in front of one before? Most every vampire knows of the legend of the Chosen One unless they've been freshly turned. The way the man stood showed he could handle himself in a fight. His broad shoulders pushed back while his giant like hands waited the opportunity to kill. Buffy felt that he wasn't the type of vampire who intends to hunt his own kind and kill. There was mention he was a Sheriff but Buffy wasn't too keen on the lingo and power levels. He looked to be in his late twenties physically, what age he truly was was anyone's guess. It seemed that vampires all shared similar features such as bone structure and hair styles. This guy had the short spiky hair, strong jaw, broad shoulders, handsome, but his forehead wasn't near the size of Angel's. He was probably one of the better looking vampires that she has seen in her fifteen years of Slaying.

"Not an idiot, you twit. I heard you both talking about Slayers before you were attacked. I'm sure she could have taken care of herself."

Buffy took the semi-compliment and slightly puffed her chest out, straightening her shoulders and tilted her head to the side in a proud gesture. It's true, the golden haired slayer could have taken care of herself. Vampires were cake at this point. However, the confident woman hadn't come into contact with many of the other races of vampire. She's done reading to know the traits and what to look for but battle has yet to be marked off on the to-do list.

"Then have a care there are far worse things on the prowl tonight." She took notice of the pause and her gaze shifted from Mikael to the confident Sheriff. She raised an eyebrow. If the warning was about him then Buffy immediately took note and stood strong, ready if he suddenly felt hungry. Her attention turned back towards the older man and watched bewildered slightly as he practically disappeared. Angel had been able to move quickly in the aid of shadows but that was certainly faster than anything she's seen before. But as she narrowed her green eyes she watched as Mikael slowed down and ran away. She watched as his foot hit the stone wall, his push from the ground over and onto the other side before he disappeared completely. That was neat.

"If you like my cockiness, you'll love my slay. I'm a killer." Buffy spoke softly, calculated. Her arms came up and crossed against her chest, stake at the ready in her closed palm. "Come to see what a Slayer looks like or do you have an urge to be dust?"

Far worse things on the prowl tonight? Was he talking about Killian? If so, Killian would take that compliment, but if not he would certainly dismiss the sentence. What he did out of confusion on which was the case? Absolutely nothing. He simply eyed the older-appearing vampire under his authority with those viciously icy blue eyes of his, a gaze that could practically freeze a soul (if vampires had any). The sheriff watched him as he looked at him, the two making eye contact, as he followed his phrasing up with one word.

    "Soon."

The faintest hint of a disinterested smile on his lips as he let that be all the dismissal he truly needed to offer. There was no interest in Killian speaking with Mikael, for they would have to address his inability to stop murdering his own kind. But regardless, that was the sheriff's job. And if he had to condemn Mikael to the True Death, he certainly would. Though, being in a position of power with a mind as calculating as Killian's came into advantage at this moment. Perhaps instead of being killed for his actions, Mikael could serve as a means to an end. There were several problems Killian could use solved, and maybe this old Daeva was the one to do it for him.

But that would be put on the backburner. For now, as Mikael skirted away, Killian's eyes of blue returned to the Slayer who remained. The two eyed each other like two fortified tankers ready for one to take the opening blow, but Killian would not. Not here, not yet. He was already working on a plan, one to alert Dawn that she had tried to frame the wrong Old vampire. Buffy would fit into it eventually, but all good things with time.

He chuckled at her words, "Dust, she says. That's adorable."

In the blink of a human eye, Killian had crossed to Buffy to lay the first attack -- if you were being generous, anyway. Sure, she was a Slayer and she moved at admirable speeds herself, so she might have seen him coming at a less menacing pace. But regardless, he was definitely an older vampire and he had certainly mastered the speeds on the ground to amaze even the quickest of creatures.

There, she might be amazed by how he pulled the stake from her hands as she stood in a ready position. More than that, she might be amazed at how he practically flicked the stake toward his right, sending the weapon with a cut-throat speed toward the nearest thick headstone. There, it embedded itself in it, becoming encased in its prison and far from the Slayer's reach. Instead of capitalizing on her being unarmed, he simply stood in front of her, towering over the woman in his massive comparable height.

"You won't be needing that," he smirked at her, "Tell me, Miss Summers, did you know it's not only a crime for a vampire to kill a vampire, but also for a human to kill a vampire?" He leaned closer to her, as if preparing to kiss her, but instead his face just hovered near her own.

In a whisper, he finished, "And did you know that, as sheriff of this territory, it's my civic duty to hold you accountable for any murders you may be committing this evening?" That smirk widened.

The tension that grew in the space between the vampires, a person could cut with a knife. The Slayer watched as the two puffed up their chests and asserted a certain dominance in their own respects. The Sheriff held authority, power as far as Buffy was informed. Buffy was aware of the rules but it wasn't in her as a person, as a Slayer, to follow. Mikael stood there ready yet calm, his dead aura exerted age and strength. He was the vampire that had gone rogue to his kind and in turned picked off his kin. She wasn't about to thank him as by destiny they are to be enemies. No matter how long it takes eventually that streak of not attacking humans ends and Buffy would be there to end them. It was blood lust plain and simple. Inside every living, beating human contained the life line of a vampire's existence. There were alternatives such as animal blood and now the Trublood but there had been more than enough vampires to state it was nothing like the real thing. Therefore it was only a matter of time before they go back to their favorite vein.

"Dust, she says. That's adorable." Buffy tilted her head slightly to the side and simply waited. It wasn't all about the witty puns anymore. She was wiser, smarter. She already knew talking much around this vampire would be a bad idea would he accept her challenge.

Not a single moment went by did her decision prove to be a smart one. She watched calmly and focused as the Sheriff crossed from a few feet away to being directly in front of her. Fingertips tightened on the stake as she stood her ground, her body prepared for a blow if he dared to lay one. She had to give it to him, he was insanely fast. The vampires she fought in Sunnydale didn't touch him. It was always a foot pursuit that ended up in her laying snug in her bed at night while their ashes blew in the wind. She knew that if she were to run she wouldn't get far. He wasn't the same type of vampire she was use to and for that moment she doubted she'd be able to kill him tonight-- but she would kill him. In her moment of doubt, her stake was snatched from her hand before she could react and thrown into a headstone. Her brows furrowed as she looked from the wooden weapon that vibrated still from the force it was thrown then back to the Sheriff.

"You won't be needing that," he smirked at her, "Tell me, Miss Summers, did you know it's not only a crime for a vampire to kill a vampire, but also for a human to kill a vampire?" Her lips turned upward in a sneer, her distaste for his closeness obvious. If she could spit venom onto his smug face she would. "And did you know that, as sheriff of this territory, it's my civic duty to hold you accountable for any murders you may be committing this evening?"

Buffy returned his smirk and nodded. Without much else, she sent her head forward with the intent of it crashing on his nose. How dare he attempt to threaten her! Her eyes were narrowed as she took a step back, her whole body vibrated with anger though she remained calm.

"What do you do about headbutts?" She crossed her arms over her chest. "Sorry guy, my destiny has been in place a lot longer than your rules have been. You all think you have rights... now I'm sorry but that was the funniest thing I heard that day you all came out of your crypts. You all are soulless monsters and you'll be killed as such. You rape, kill... You can't promise me one of your vampires won't go ape-shit crazy and drain a fifteen year old girl and I can't promise I won't stake said vampire. It's a system, balance. You're the one fighting it. Nothing good can come of vampires and humans coexisting, we both know that." Each word spoken calmly.

She whipped her head forward, crashing it into his nose. Okay, it hurt at first. She definitely didn't have the strength of your typical human, crashing her forehead against the brim of his nose with a force he hadn't exactly expected, even knowing that she was stronger than most. It forced her to whip his head to the side, but never did he give the dramatics in grabbing his nose, shouting out in pain, or even appearing remotely discomforted by her attack. Sure, it hurt. But that would pass, as did all pain he came across. He had, over the years, learned to ignore the most basic of pain. This was such pain. And he wasn't going to linger on it.

Even the damage she'd done was already healing over, which would prevent any blood from falling from internal wounds. She would barely know she hurt him, and if it wasn't for the aggressive sniff he offered in that moment while letting his body adjust to the attack, then she wouldn't have even known she had hit him where she wanted to.

"Hm." That was all he said in response to her attack. He wouldn't give her the benefit of a retaliation. He wanted to solidify the fact that he was above her in political power. That meant letting her act out initially, but she'd fall in line. She wouldn't have a choice.

Though she certainly seemed to believe she did. That sense of entitlement clear in her, the woman going on about her destiny and how the balance needed someone like her to sort things out. When she was done, all he did was grin with those blue eyes of his, a devious little number that seemed to express how tired he had become of an argument like hers. Who was to stop vampires from killing humans? She seemed to be forgetting one important detail.

"That's what I'm here for," he reminded her, "Your 'destiny' is outdated, as outdated as the good book itself. Times have changed. It is my duty to ensure vampires aren't murdering humans, the same as it is your government's job to ensure humans aren't murdering humans. And in my job description, also the duty to ensure humans, whether entitled by outdated 'destinies' or not, are not murdering my kind. "

He stepped away from her, unafraid to turn his back to her as he moved with hands latched behind his back. "You are not the law, Slayer. You'd do well to keep that in mind from here on out." Blues flashed toward her as he eyed her, examining her reaction. "Or those around you will be the ones pained by your crimes."

That threat settling itself in before he added a political spin, "It's not just the perpetrator who suffers when convicted of a crime."
A pleasantly destructive smirk. Had he been threatening her, or was he alluding to her doing time? It was open the interpretation, and the former certainly couldn't be held against him.

Buffy wasn't interested in fighting with the vampire at the moment. There were too many factors about the Sheriff that gave her bad feelings all over. It was obvious due to his speed, his position that he wasn't the type of vampire Buffy was use to. Giles had mentioned something about the Ugenta race before and how their laws are forced upon everyone. Buffy thought they had a higher sense of self-worth. How dare they come into their world, human dominate, and tell her that she can't slay their kind. She seethed quietly with anger, the blonde woman had a history of keeping her cool even under the most intense of situations and this wasn't one of them.

There was the thought to argue about how they are monsters. They have no conscious, no beating heart. This vampire stood before her and was seriously spouting off at the mouth with his invalid argument? If it wasn't for her or her previous sisters of the same destiny the world would have ended centuries ago. He wouldn't be standing there in his expensive attire if it wasn't for her or her fallen sisters. But she stood there, silent. There had been something on her mind for a few days now. Before, in Sunnydale, she didn't need to be stronger. She rejected the demon essence that would have made her stronger, able to fight the First and win in a different manner. But she was cunning, the heroes always won. But since being in New York too many foes have stepped up and Buffy had to reconsider the fight. There was a redhead woman that was strong, really strong; she was fast and could heal quickly. The Slayer managed to break the woman's nose but she corrected it without so much as a blink and begun her light assault once more. She had to keep herself on her toes during that fight, more than she'd like. Was she to step up her training? She was fit, in the past condition of her life. So she lived longer than pretty much all the previous Slayers, her age hasn't really caught up with her. No aching bones or tired muscles. Trained eyes watched as his hands joined themselves behind his back, he was showing her that she was nothing to him and it caused her blood to boil.

"You are not the law, Slayer. You'd do well to keep that in mind from here on out."

"I don't do well with threats, Sheriff." Her tone calm but dark.

"Or those around you will be the ones pained by your crimes." Her heartbeat had begun to race the moment he begun his sentence. Dawn. He had mentioned her briefly before but now with the threat it was something more. If there was one thing these monsters didn't want it was an angry, rage driven Slayer. She would destroy the Ugenta that stood before her, not tonight but one day. Every vampire met it's end sooner or later and Buffy was the one who taunted them before she dusted. "It's not just the perpetrator who suffers when convicted of a crime."

"What's the matter? Big, strong vampire can't deal with me directly?" Her lips puckered for a moment, a pause. [b]"If you hurt anyone that even knows me, if you do anything to Dawn-- I will end you. Sooner or later you'll be dead." Her threat was direct, she didn't need to manipulate words nor throw out menacing glares.

"I don't do well with threats, Sheriff."

He just stared off into the distance, relishing in her words. She was trying to be tough, but her heartbeat was telling him something different. He could hear it pumping away, increasing in its pace, as his words trailed off of his tongue and began to run their way through her consciousness. She came to understand that he was threatening her, the ones he knew she loved ... including her sister. She wanted to be tough, but she was showing her human weakness to him. She was fragile.

And he could get into her head as easily as he had gotten into Dawn's.

This was indeed her weakness, and now that he knew it, he could play it against her. "Now who's making threats?" teased Killian, finally turning back to her with his cold-hearted glare finally on her once again.

He began to maneuver his way toward her once again, slow and calculated steps with a casual air about him despite his very debonair suit. Hands still wrapped behind his back, not a fear in the world etched in eyes of ice blue that watched her, he moved in her direction. "I won't do anything to your sister, Slayer. You shouldn't worry about that. Though ... you probably should worry about what your sister is doing to your family."

A smirk, "I have it on good authority your witch friend is in the hospital because your sister has been getting mixed in with the wrong crowd. Is that correct?" He toyed with that, for there was a bomb to drop to follow. Perhaps he could use the Slayer to encourage Dawn away from Eric Northman. He just needed to paint the two of them as the villains of this tale.

"Now who's making threats?"

'"You know, you're the type of vampire I enjoy killing." She spoke. He was arrogant-- something Buffy couldn't stand.

She stood there with a hard glare. He was able to taunt her because for the time being, she wouldn't attempt to murder him. It would be one of the worst decisions Buffy Summers has ever made-- including previous boyfriends. Here this vampire was, a Sheriff of one of the areas the vampires have divided up. He was an authority figure, more than Angel was. Sure, the scourge of Europe held the former position of CEO of Wolfram and Hart, Los Angeles division-- but she felt that against the vampire's harsh laws, the law firm was nothing to them. She was stuck between a rock and a hard place. She let out a frustrated sigh as she shook her head. What was she to do? She watched him approach her slowly, she knew the look in his eyes. He was the predator and she was the prey. A shark who had smelled blood in the water when he saw and heard the reaction that came from her family. He could hear her heartbeat which had begun to quicken in pace. She wasn't always around her sister to protect her.

"I won't do anything to your sister, Slayer. You shouldn't worry about that. Though ... you probably should worry about what your sister is doing to your family."

Buffy's eyes narrowed as her head tilted to the side slightly. Was he serious? What did he know of Dawn? She walked forward to close the gap between the two. If he had been around the Slayer ever before, the look in her eyes, the furrowed brow, he'd know that this was her denial. This was her not listening to what mattered. Her hands remained in closed fists against her thighs. She stared up at the man, jaw clenched.

"You're wrong. Whatever you think you know about Dawn... You smug bastard."

"I have it on good authority your witch friend is in the hospital because your sister has been getting mixed in with the wrong crowd. Is that correct?"

Her mouth was parted as she stared into the freezing stare of the Sheriff. She was sure that vampires don't go out of their way to keep tabs on her and her friends-- though she could be wrong. She was the vampire slayer-- their enemy number one. Given his position of power, Buffy thought it was nothing for him to able to send a vamp down to the hospital to check things out. But how would he know of Willow being placed there to begin with? Things weren't making a whole lot of sense, not when she didn't want to believe him. She refused. Vampires lied, they twisted the truth so that they could manipulate and control them-- to hurt them mentally. Lips pulled inward as she looked off to the side.

"How often do you decide to stroll the cemeteries?" Her green eyes sharply turn back to him, her head following. She was beginning to feel that it might be more than a little weird a Sheriff, who had better things to do with his time, stalked the cemetery just to say don't slay us anymore. "Why should I trust anything you say? I've tangoed with vamps before, not exactly the most honest type. And I know it isn't so you and I can become best friends."

Oh, this one was feisty. She was discussing how much she'd love to kill a vampire like him. Maybe it was his arrogance, his confident allure which was sometimes more of a deterrent than a draw. He considered it one of his better qualities, for it made his sociable and in his field that was a necessary trait. Some, however, didn't favor it. Buffy seemed to be one of them.

He smirked. "And you're the kind of girl whose inner thigh I'd love to drink from." A risqué comment to make to a Slayer, but he didn't really care. She was being very forward with her desire to serve him the True Death. He could be just as forward with his dream of tasting a Slayer.

Icy blues watched her as he followed up with that information about Dawn, the Slayer's sister whose dirty doings were starting to affect those all around her. From her witch friend, to her father who had yet to meet his own death (but would very soon if Killian's plan played out as he envisioned). The initial shock was obvious in the way her jaw hung low immediately.

"How often do you decide to stroll the cemeteries?" This almost put him off his game. But, instead of letting it distract him, he simply arched a lone brow to his left side and continued to eye her. "What does that have to do with your witch friend?"

And then, onto the subject of what she needed to hear in order to trust him. Vampires lied, as was their nature, and Killian couldn't dispute that. Even in that moment, he was conveniently avoiding certain truths to play this story to Buffy Summers exactly how he wanted it played. He shrugged.

"You shouldn't trust me," he said quite honestly. Nature made it so that these two were mortal enemies. Could she really trust any vampire? "But, maybe you should ask your sister where she was when she was kidnapped. Then, after she lies to you, ask her about Eric Northman. I'm sure you can put the pieces of the puzzle together from there."

"And you're the kind of girl whose inner thigh I'd love to drink from." That comment caught her off guard. He was bold, unafraid of the Slayer. For the moment her mouth sealed itself shut as her eyes widened a bit in the sheer shock of his comment. How long had it been since someone said that to her? Well, there was no one who said those exact words per say but the usual threats applied. Her mind scattered to her thigh and the image of his head attached to the vein as he pulled her blood into his mouth. She cringed from the thought but being as she was a woman, the sexuality of her being stirred for a moment.

"Now tell me, does that work on all the girls?" Her head tilted to the side.

The anticipation had begun to build itself. There was a mystery that the Sheriff held and it was something she held a weakness for. He spoke of her sister, of her friends. She doubted that he'd be very interested in the events of her lesbian witch friend which caused her to question him internally even more. There were things happening behind Buffy's back, there were secrets. And everyone knows that secrets do not make friends. He knew things, he stood just as cocky as before. He already knew what she was, what she could do way before he even parted from the shadows.

"You shouldn't trust me," Buffy raised her eyebrows sarcastically and nodded to agree. "But, maybe you should ask your sister where she was when she was kidnapped. Then, after she lies to you, ask her about Eric Northman. I'm sure you can put the pieces of the puzzle together from there."

She was unaware that she would run into the man in question at a later night, another event. For now she remained oblivious to who he was. Kidnapped. Again. She felt like she couldn't do anything from this moment forth other than follow her sister around in the shadows, stalk her, and jump out and kill whatever it is that comes near her-- like Sunnydale? She didn't doubt that she'll lie; Dawn was sneaky, sneakier than she'd like to give her credit for. She hadn't seen her sister, the former Key, in days.

"How do you know Dawn?" She asked before she attempted to figure the puzzle out herself. "I remember the night she was kidnapped, not much else. But I'm gathering it wasn't as it seemed from what you said... Why are you doing? Why are you helping my sister get in a world of trouble?"

"Better yet, who are you?"

"Only the ones with an eye for darkness," he admitted, a suggestive glance at her with those blue eyes of his. Was he insinuating she liked to keep things risqué? Probably. She was a Slayer, after all. Feeling that powerful meant you automatically had a knack for being rendered out of control once in a while. She always sat pretty, stronger than most. He couldn't imagine she'd ever date anything half as strong as she. He was an old vampire, he was definitely older than the two vampires Dawn had told him about from Buffy's past. If she had an eye for darkness, she need look no further.

Lots of questions from her would follow the bomb he dropped in regards to Dawn. Who was he really? How did he know Dawn? What was he doing getting her involved in things of this nature? Killian decided not to answer every question. In fact, he decided not to answer any at all. There was a certain air of mystery he wanted to maintain. He wanted Buffy to seek more answers on her own, only to seek him out afterward to get the finer details.

And he knew she would. How interesting would it be for Eric to try and get Buffy to kill Killian for kidnapping Dawn, only to have the older vampire turn his plans around and make Eric the eye of her assaults? This was looking like it might be a bit of fun.

"I'm a friend," he explained to her vaguely. "Someone who only wants the best for your sister. She's getting involved with the wrong people. If you love her as much as I imagine you do, you'll want to do something about that."

A small smirk on his lips, "You know where to find me. And if you don't, you will soon. Good night, Slayer." And breaking into his superspeed, Killian was gone in a flash, blurring his way through the cemetery until he disappeared from view completely.

"Only the ones with an eye for darkness," Her eyes narrowed but not in a threatening way. More so struck. She had darkness alive and well. There was something about Buffy that was a secret that only she and Spike knew. When Willow brought Buffy back from the dead, the Slayer was brought back wrong. She wasn't aware of what the change was, what made her different. Spike was able to attack her back in Sunnydale though his chip was in perfect working condition. There was something since her revival that has caused her to flirt with the bad a bit more. To dance around it and touch it, tease it before she embraced the bad. She understood why Faith was so addicted to it. There was danger, more than what she experienced daily in her life alone.

"I'm a friend," he explained to her vaguely. "Someone who only wants the best for your sister. She's getting involved with the wrong people. If you love her as much as I imagine you do, you'll want to do something about that."

"We'll debate the term friend next time we see each other. I'll watch her, see if you're spreading lies or if you actually have a redemming quality." She smirked and raised her brows.

"You know where to find me. And if you don't, you will soon. Good night, Slayer."

In a blink of an eye he was gone. She stared at the spot in which he vanished and decided that she was done for the night. Her attention was refocused on vampire Sheriff she met tonight and everything they discussed. Did Dawn actually have a hand in what happened to Willow? She chewed the inside of her cheek as she turned on her heel and exited the cemetery. She walked home with her head swimming in thoughts of his words.
