Name: Dehvis Kettleson
[Deh-vis Keh-tell-son]

Age: 21

Date of Birth: Spring 12th

Personality: Dehvis is dedicated to his job as a chef - when he looks at the world, he is looking in term of flavor. When he meets something that has a bad taste he doesn't hesitate in voicing his opinion... even if that something is a six foot, two hundred pound sailor who gives Dehvis a good fight for his critical comments. Dehvis is a great lover of all things that are sweet and lovely - including women and fine wine. His addiction to new experiences - and new tastes - keep him from attaching to any one women for too long however. He tends to be more loyal to the aged bottles of wine he finds at the best bars, though he treats both just as lovingly. He just loses his interest in most girls after he gets use to their behavior - moving on for the sake of a "new flavor of love."
Even though he loves the delicate delights of high-society - rich food, aged wine, and fine women - Dehvis is a practical, earthy chef at heart. He knows where his beloved turnips and cabbages come from and doesn't hesitate to get dirty. In fact he enjoys working in the dirt and getting the chance to really work his muscles from time to time, though lugging kitchen kettles about does that just as well!
Cocky, self assured, and quick to voice his immediate opinions Dehvis may not make friends of everyone - but he is loyal to those he does make, often treating them to his best meals he can make and endless evenings by the fireside, discussing life.

Dreams: Oh, that Mistress of his heart! That beautiful, perfect women that entices Dehvis in his dreams - leaving a taste of rosewater, mint, and sweet pears in his mouth each time he wakes. Dehvis is constantly searching for the woman who will complete his heart, but he isn't searching very consciously. The faint echoes of his true love resonate deep within him, calling out to each new bella that he dips in to kiss - but he has yet to find the flavor he is searching for...

Appearance: Straight brown hair tumbles down about Dehvis' face until it reaches the bottom of his ears - where he lopes it stylishly off to keep it out of his way while he works in the kitchen. Lugging kettles and shoving firewood into ovens doesn't let Dehvis' body go to waste - he is fit, if not muscular, and enjoys keeping active with brisk horse back rides through the forest from time to time. He is about 5' 9", the perfect height for standing just tall enough to gaze into many of his lady-loves eyes with his own plain brown irises - able to make them sparkle with his excitement as he believes, yet again, he has found love. He has a nose that is almost too strong and bold chin make those lady-loves more eager to swoon, but it is his soft lips and slightly flushed cheeks that seal the deal. Usually in a plain white cotton shirt with long sleeves and dark brown pants when out of his chef's apron, Dehvis blends in with the rest of the village crowd when he hasn't fancied himself up for a pretty lady.

Occupation: A chef, though he doesn't care much for the fetters of running his own restraunt! He merely hires on where his tastes take him.

History: Dehvis Kettleson is the son of a chef, and his father was the son of a chef, and his father before him! It has been in the family for generations - thus the name, "Kettleson." Dehvis was raised in Mossleaf and has been working in kitchens since he was old enough to carry the salt shaker. His family was rather modest in size - he only has three sisters and a brother - but it always felt large and warm due to the vast amounts of friends his parents would drag home for big dinners. His Aunts and Uncles and multiple cousins were all familiar faces in his home kitchen as well - in fact, it isn't uncommon for Dehvis to be working with one of his cousins at his current chef jobs. He was raised with an empathesis on good food and fair behavior, earning a hard whack from his mother with a wooden spoon anytime he dared so much as steal a single roll in her kitchen. Away from the hubbub of his family home, Dehvis is ready to carry on with his own life - but he's surprisingly lonely without the constant rush of people to deal with each and every day...

Personal Info: I look forward to following Dehvis as he goes about his job and searching for the perfect wife - especially as he makes some great friends!

1. Does your character have a favorite season? Why?
Dehvis loves Winter! When the people shun the outside world of cold and snow is when they come to the restraunts, eager to be fed and enjoy a warm evening with good food and almost-as-good friends. Winter is the time when everyone rushes to eat and Dehvis can prove himself - and the generosity of the season is easily spread throughout everyone, giving Dehvis a chance to slip into a tight knot of friends and be invited to sit out a drink or two. Not to mention romance is on all the ladies minds, making them easier than ever to woo!

3. Name of your character? Why did you pick that name? What does that name make you think of? What do you want other people to think when they hear it?
Dehvis Kettleson. Well - I started with "David" but thought that was too plain. So then I went to "Davis" - but that seemed boring. So then I typed in "Devis." It looked good, but I didn't want people to mispronounce how I heard it in my head. The "h" in "Dehvis" was added to make sure people know it is "deh-vas" not "div-ess." I also like the second half - Kettleson! It rings of old ages, when people named themselves after their occupation. I hope that people think of Dehvis' talent and uniqueness when they see his name!

1. What has your character been doing for a job? How successful have they been? Why?
Dehvis has been working as a chef in town lately. Although he has been cooking for people since he could hold a mixing spoon, Dehvis has only been working in shops that his parents don't own for about a year now. He is doing quite well, mostly due to his absolute passion for cooking and quick wit to redirect trouble when he messes up.

2. How does time pass in Mossleaf Village? In other words, what is each month and the equivalent of a year?
Four seasons are a year! Four months in real life create a year.

3. Where does your character live in the village? Why do they like or hate living there? Why do they remain in Mossleaf?
Dehvis stays in a small apartment in Sealeaf Bay. He likes it alright - there is plenty to smell, see, and listen to this close to the Market and the docks! He wakes up most mornings thinking about ways that he can cook fish, due to all the fish-scent that wharfs through his window. He has never planned to leave Mossleaf and will stay as long as his passions don't take him elsewhere.

4. How long has your character lived in Mossleaf Village? Describe, in a paragraph each, two things that have happened to them during their life here. You may use either a narrative or in character replies.
His entire life!

---> Dehvis slowly pushed the wooden door open, careful not to let it creak. Afternoon sunlight filtered through the hall, dancing over the stone-still five year old with such a serious expression on his face. With a jerky sigh Dehvis glanced over his shoulder - the hallway was empty, just shafts of light and the hallway rug, a few pots with dried plants shoved into the corner. With a boldness Dehvis didn't feel, he stepped into the kitchen and gently closed the door behind him. The kitchen seemed oddly still with no one inside it - too still, as though the oven and pantry and pots and pans were all watching the little boy creep up the table. Dehvis frowned and kept an ear out for any footsteps... but he was so close!
Excitement was building up in his chest. Soon the sweet, savory tastes would be all his! The very idea was almost too much! Dropping any concern, Dehvis hurried onto the bench next to the table, climbing as quickly as he could. He was there! With a cry of delight he plucked the lid off of the container and reached his hand in for a cookie -
- only to be suddenly flying in the air, by his ear. Between his own shrieks of panic and pain Dehvis could hear his mother's bellows.
"How DARE you steal from the cookie jar young man! Before dinner! Once your father finds out..."

---> Dehvis leaned forward, staring into the large blue eyes that gazed so widely - so blankly - back up at him. He sighed inside. What a beautiful face she had - such a gentle slope of the cheekbones, perfect point of her chin, teasing pout to her lips... Mary's eyes narrowed as if sensing the growing cold that was coming. Dehvis removed his hands from her waist, putting them on her shoulders. Such a dainty waist she had, too, so slim and trimmed as neatly as a swan. Mary pressed herself against his chest, her blond hair rustling under his nose. She smelled so sweetly of lilacs and her favorite blush-powder - but the love of that scent had gone...
"Mary... we need to talk..." She glanced up at him, her eyes still wide - but he could see it already. Mary was pretty, but she wasn't dumb. Comprehension flickered. She stiffened, her eyes narrowed. A couple snowdrops fell onto her face and formed water droplets, sliding down her face. Dehvis steeled himself. There would be tears - there would always be tears - but at least this way he could be happy...

5. What perks would you like to have given to you since your character is a native? Why?
A larger apartment than usual - just a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen! Oh, and a secure job working somewhere that matches Dehvis' experience.

Magic

1. What type of magic do you want your character to possess? Why? Does this power effect their personality or behavior in any way?
Dehvis has ambient cooking magic - it goes with the family, oddly enough. happy1.gif It suits his personality, his family, and his families lengthy history of having a zealous fondness for food. Of course this sort of magic only heightens Dehvis' love of food and flavors...

2. How powerful do you want your character to become? Why? Do you believe you can roleplay well enough to be able to handle that much power responsibly, whatever the level you have chosen?
Just to L2 - Dehvis doesn't have "active" magic, just enough to give him a little help now and then in the kitchen. I believe that this level of responsibility will be easy as pie. ecstatic1.gif Indirect puns intended.

2½. How powerful is your character right now? Do you believe they are of the age or have a history appropriate to go along with that power?
Dehvis exists at a permanent state of L2 - and at 21, I think that is just fine. appreciative1.gif

3. What can magic of your type be used for in the world of Mossleaf?
L2 level ambient cooking magic can be used to help tease dough into rising, keep an oven at the right temperature, mix complex doughs to the right consistency, and do other useful kitchen-things on a minimal level.

4. Describe when your character found out about their magic, either narrative or in character.
When Dehvis was about thirteen years old he came into his magic - which was to be expected for the men in his family. Because he knew he might get it, Dehvis was always looking for ways to prove it had finally come to him. For weeks ahead of time Dehvis had been pointing at dough and mixes in the kitchen, trying to get them to rise, fall, stir, or fold as he wanted them to. Nothing had happened, but finally he pointed in annoyance at once of his sister's pies and willed it to fold, which it did - splattering raspberry filling across the entire kitchen. The pie was ruined and his sister and mother were quite annoyed, but Dehvis was unabashedly joyous about his coming into power.

5. What has your character done with their magic since they found out they had it? What does your character want to do with it? In terms of how powerful they could be, do their hopes and the reality of their potential line up?
Dehvis has used his magic here and there to aid him in the kitchen - able to pick up a cup and pour sugar in, and its always the perfect amount, or able to mix the perfect dashes of herbs for a phenomenal effect - but he prefers to believe it is mostly learned talent than magical aid. Dehvis is content with his power at the simple - yet useful - levels it is at and does not plan on expanding it much further. He enjoys the work in cooking, after all!

Another Race

1. Which race do you want to make your character? Why?
1/64th Harvest Sprite! A long, long time ago Dehvis' chef of a several greats grandfather took a picnic basket out into the forest, filled with his best pies. The slightly selfish man had intended to eat them all on his own, but when he awoke he found a young harvest sprite maiden with a filled out figure, round cheeks, bright eyes, and bluebells tucked in her hair sitting on top of his picnic basket, finishing off the last of his pies. He was astonished and she was in love with his cooking - eventually the two really hit it off and the Harvest Sprite shifted into a human-sized form and took up living with Dehvis' ancestor as his wife. Their children bore a bit of her Harvest Sprite magic and had more than the usual knack with herbs and wild berries.

2. What is your definition of the race you have selected?
Harvest Sprites - from Harvest Moon - are creatures that live throughout forest areas, tending to nature and the Harvest Goddess. They are very much like fairies, but enjoy hard work and enjoy helping those dedicated to nature. They can be of great help or they can pull tricks when they feel up to it. They love the bounty of nature, but enjoy snacks that humans make too.

3. Are there any qualities about the race you've selected that you are looking forward to role playing? Or any qualities you believe would present problems for your character, though it might make for fun role play?
While none of his Harvest Sprite ancestry really appears in Dehvis, it gives him a nice background story!

4. Please explain any burdens or advantages you believe your character may have because of their race.
Because none of the qualities of a Harvest Sprite - other than a knack for enjoying wild foods - will appear in Dehvis, there won't be either or.
