"Ugh." Quinn said. With the uttering of that syllable, she made her displeasure known to her partner. Whether that displeasure came from being hungry, tired, or sick of being out in the rain in the Glades was unclear. But, then again, she was happy that she had a chance to finally bring out her hypno-swirl umbrella, and that was always cool.

She looked over at Ellie and pointed to the picnic pavilion. "Let's go sit down for a while. I'm tiiiiiired."

Ellie was already pouting because it was cold and she was rained on and there was mud on her cute shoes and heroing was so stupid anyway. "Yes!" she agreed to the pavilion. "Did you bring snacks?" she asked hopefully.

Hurrying to the nearest bench she slumped down on it. "I want to go home," she complained.

"We only have like..." She pulled her phone out of her water-proof bag and frowned.

"Nevermind." She didn't even want to say it. It was depressing. "My mom was supposed to pack something. Let me see." She dug through her bag for a moment and sighed.

A can of tomato soup came out in her hand.

"Ugh. Mary-lou." She said under her breath and sat down on the floor.

"I hate everything."

Ellie looked longingly at the can of soup. This was the worst.

"Can't we just pretend that I went and then go home and just not go anymore?" This seemed reasonable. In fact, she had already gone so it wouldn't be a total lie. They were already lying about Ellie being team leader so what did one more lie mean at this point? "Let's go get pizza or something. I have Daddy's credit card!"

Quinn shook her head. "Quinn said Rick checked up on him one time so we have to be here in case he checks up on us." She sighed.

"Um, maybe the pizza place needs patrolling too?" she suggested in what she was pretty sure was a helpful way.

She didn't care if Rick checked up on them. It was raining. He was probably inside his nice warm apartment watching TV with his pretty girlfriend and eating Chinese food or something equally delicious.

"Let's go anyway," she pleaded with him. "Please Quinn?"

"We can't! I can't let him down." She sighed. "You can go, though. I'll finish the patrol."

Ellie pouted unhappily. "I can't leave you alone, you'll get eaten by a vampire or something." This was the most logical conclusion, which she knew because she had seen Twilight and Vampire Diaries so she knew that in the forest in the dark was exactly where they were going to get eaten by a vampire.

"I guess I'll just finish it," she said finally. "I don't want you to get eaten."

Quinn shrugged. "If you want. I think I could take a vampire though."

"Nuh-uh," she shook her head. Quinn didn't know anything about vampires. They were dangerous. "You're not stronger than a vampire, you would totally get eaten." Obviously. Quinn could be so foolish.

She stared at the soup some more. "Too bad your brother isn't here to cook that."

"Vampires can't bite through ice." She said. Then, she looked at the soup. "I don't even like tomato soup." She sighed.

"Well, I do." She pouted again and gave up on her dreams of delicious soup.

"They don't have to bite through ice they could smash it because they're super strong." Obviously, duh. Quinn was so silly. "Anyway, I'm staying so you're not going to get bitten by a vampire so we don't have to worry about anything."

"I guess not. Vampires would go for you first. You're the pretty one." She nodded. That was Ellie's job. She was Daphne.

"I'm the bait," she agreed. "But not because I'm pretty but I probably taste better." Yep, that was it.

"When we're all done can we go get food?" she asked. "If we don't I will probably starve to death."

She nodded. "Vampires think pretty people taste good. That's how it works."

"You don't know anything about vampires," Ellie tried not to roll her eyes because they might get stuck that way. "I'm an expert." She was. Quinn could ask anyway.

"You are not! I bet you haven't even met a vampire. I have." She crossed her arms over her chest.

"You don't know that!" Ellie retorted. "Maybe I've met lots of vampires." She tossed her hair over her shoulder. "Maybe I am a vampire. You wouldn't even know."

Quinn didn't know anything.

"I would too. And you haven't. You're not underground enough to hang out with vampires. You've never even smoked."

That was true, but Quinn didn't really need to know that. "Says who? You don't hang out with me and my other friends. Maybe I smoke all the time." She didn't.

"I'm popular. I drink!" This was the best defense ever.

"I didn't say you weren't popular. But vampires don't want popular kids. They're annoying. Vampires want the dark, mysterious kids. You have to dye everything black. Trufax."

Ellie glowered. "I'm not annoying." She was. "You're just mad that I know more about vampires than you do, and I don't even shop at Hot Topic." She looked at Quinn pointedly.

"You don't know anything about important stuff," Ellie huffed. "At least I've done research."

"Nobody but twelve years shop at Hot Topic, Ellie." Quinn sighed as if she was exhausted with Ellie's lack of understanding.

"And I don't have to do research, I've met one."

"Really?" Ellie was momentarily distracted from her show of being knowledgeable about anything. "Tell me! Tell me tell me tell me tell me!"

She smiled wide at Quinn. "Please? Pleeaaaaase? You have to tell me Quinn! YOU HAVE TO."

Quinn opened her mouth, then closed it. Ellie would just be disappointed about him.

"Nevermind. Forget it." She sighed.

"Noooo!" she wailed dramatically. "You can't do this to me, Quinn! Why would you tell me that and then not tell me anything?"

She looked at Quinn, suddenly wide-eyed and serious. "Did he compel you Quinn? Did he get all like, mysterious vampire and make you swear not to tell anything?" She reached out and grabbed Quinn's hand. "You can tell me anything, Quinn. I'm here to listen."

And then maybe tell a bunch of people later, but first to listen.

Quinn looked at Ellie holding her hand. She looked up at Ellie with dead eyes.

"Please don't touch me."

Ellie let go of Quinn and pouted again. "Fine. Don't tell me anything."

She folded her arms across her chest and sulked. "Today is so stupid. I don't understand why I have to patrol in the rain."

Quinn shrugged her shoulders, but looked sad.

"I don't know."

"ugh." Ellie rolled her eyes. "Don't do that. You're the one who won't tell me anything."

Quinn didn't get to be dramatic. That was Ellie's job. Hadn't anyone told her? God, it was all so obvious. There was only room for one person to be super dramatic and Ellie had gotten to that role first.

"I'm not doing anything don't be a bitch."

"I'm not being a bitch," Ellie sulked. "Whatever."

She stood and tried to kick some of the mud off her shoes. "Let's go, I'm bored of sitting and it's just making me hungrier."

"Fine." She got up off the floor and motioned for Ellie to walk out in the rain first.

Ellie sighed. This night was totally going to ruin her hair and make it all frizzy. Everything was so dumb and she should just quit PEYOP and make Rick lie to her dad about it.

She walked out in the rain and turned to look at Quinn. "You're supposed to be the one in charge, let's go."

"I don't even care anymore, let's just go get pizza." She said, hesitating at the edge of the pavilion.

Ellie frowned at her friend. Quinn was so weird. Maybe she was PMSing. That would explain a lot.

"Okay," she agreed. "I'm starving!" She started walking. Someone had to get this show on the road. "You want breadsticks? I want breadsticks."

Quinn walked out in the rain, but around her it was turning to snow. She trudged silently behind Ellie.

"I want to get hawaiian pizza, but you can get whatever you want, we'll do half and half," She explained, oblivious to sad Quinn being sad. "Seriously, I am like, so hungry. Next time remind me to bring food with us!"

"I'm not hungry." Quinn said plainly as snowflakes fell around her.

"Oh." That was weird. "Are you sure? I'm buying, it's not a big deal." Quinn was so weird. Why did everyone in PEYOP have to be so weird? It was another reason she should quit.
