Title: Dead Man Walking
Description: (Day Negative 44, Kate)

Goren Felson - October 9, 2011 01:07 AM (GMT)
Goren was so glad to be bored.

More than a month after his "change", he was fully back on the force. He'd gone through CAPE Medical, verified to be dead, but healthy (which, to his shock, was a simple check box on his form) and given his old duties once more. To his utter lack of surprise, after that day, Augusta vanished without a trace. They were looking for her to that day (Goren never knew until then that unlicensed necromancy was illegal), but at that point, it wasn't his concern. All he knew was that he had his life back, and he was going to enjoy it.

Currently, this involved riding the desk in the holding cells.

It was a great job. All you did was sign in the thugs, sign them out, and make sure no one had a grand supervillainous escape. That last part hadn't come up yet, but it was great, it was boring, and it let him forget he had to go out for "life-drain" breaks every few hours.

He wished it would never end...

Kate Delacoeur - October 9, 2011 01:27 AM (GMT)
Kate strolled into the station looking vaguely bored. She wasn't, but it was sort of the expression she generally wore when she walked around. It was nice to be out of the prison and not worrying about possibly being shanked. it would have only been better if she could have come down to the station alone, but there was so such luck with a prisoner transfer. But she'd left Officer Sullivan outside to have a smoke break.

She stopped in front of Goren's desk and held out out the folder. "I'm here to transfer McFadden."

Goren Felson - October 9, 2011 01:44 AM (GMT)
Officer Felson was not paying attention. For a moment.

As soon as Delacouer came to the desk, he moved his feet from the discarded yellow pages he was using as a footrest underneath the desk, and stood. His brain filtered through various high-ranking members of the police force before landing on one obvious fact.

She was wearing a Wonderland uniform.

It wasn't that Goren didn't like screws... that was, prison guards. It's just that in the popular perception of police officers, they were where cops went when they couldn't be cops anymore. That kind of put them at a disadvantage with most officers: they were respected, but in a lower station than most cops. Goren didn't GENERALLY go along with it, but it was hard not to pick it up.

Goren took the folder from her and examined its contents, and recognized the guard's name. "Oh! Captain Delacouer! Wasn't, um... wasn't expecting you!"

Kate Delacoeur - October 9, 2011 02:04 AM (GMT)
She snorted unintentionally. Hadn't been expecting her? He hadn't been expecting her. Kate glanced upward at the clock above Officer Felson's head. Yep. She was on time. So what was his problem?

Kate made eye contact him and greeted him with a quick upward nod. "Semper Vigilans," she said with a smirk, reading the Department motto off badge. She felt about the same towards Felson as he felt towards her. Police officers were often overgrown high school bullies who had run out of people to pick on. Though,. judging from the scrawny fellow in front of her, that didn't apply to everyone. Maybe he was just an idiot.

"So," she continued. "Is McFadden around here?"

Goren Felson - October 9, 2011 02:12 AM (GMT)
"Yeah yeah yeah!" he said, getting out from behind the desk. Remembering himself, he corrected himself. "Erm, yes sir. ... Right this way."

Sir's fine, right? he wondered ... eh. If she doesn't like it, she'll say so.

Pulling his keycard away from the zipclip on his belt, he unlocked the door and headed inside. "Hope you like charmers, by the way..."

Kate Delacoeur - October 9, 2011 02:59 AM (GMT)
Kate shot him a Look, but didn't correct him. Sir was... weird. But maybe that's how they did things in his department. She decided not to ask.

She followed him through the doors, and had almost decided to not say anything at all, but changed her mind. "Aw. Have you got yourself an admirer, Felson?" Kate was usually nicer - but that was private life Kate. Work Kate had to be a little tougher or everybody would thing she was soft. Especially the prisoners.

Goren Felson - October 9, 2011 03:08 AM (GMT)
"Y'know, I- PIPE DOWN, Y'ANIMALS!-... y'know, they keep sending me love letters but I just keep turning me down," Goren joked as he lambasted the noisy prisoners. "Don't have the heart to tell them I don't swing that way. Call me a romantic, I guess."

Kate immediately scored some points with Goren. Obviously, he liked having a good, solid sense of humour about the whole law enforcement thing. Her opening salvo was well-aimed. Hopefully she could keep up the assault...

Kate Delacoeur - October 9, 2011 03:28 AM (GMT)
Had... had he just called the prisoners animals? Yes. He had. Oh God. Kate needed out of here as soon as possible. She kept her head up and eyes ahead, not daring to glance at the inmates who were now riled up (thanks to Officer Genius, she was sure). Besides, this was small potatoes next to Wonderland. What were most of these people in for, anyway? Traffic crimes and urinating in public? Please.

"I've brought another officer with me to assist with transport. Based on your assessment, will we be needing further assistance?" Two to one was par for the course, but PEs were often transported at a three to one ratio due to their superhuman ability to freak out and do someone serious harm.

Goren Felson - October 9, 2011 03:53 AM (GMT)
"Seriously? Yeah, totally," he replied. "Guy's slippery as hell and strong as you can be without being a PE. All hands on deck, I say."

He thought to himself about who could help. "I could get Murphy or Hightower to give you a hand... maybe even Caine, if he's available. Who did you want?"

Kate Delacoeur - October 9, 2011 04:53 AM (GMT)
Kate shrugged at him. "I don't know the difference between Murphy and Caine, so use your best judgment. Hell, you do it unless you're busy holding the desk to the ground." She didn't care, she just wanted to get the job done.

Goren Felson - October 9, 2011 05:17 AM (GMT)
"Um... oh... kay," Goren agreed reluctantly. "Yeah, sure, I don't mind stretching my legs. Probably know his tricks better than anyone here anyways."

He approached a cell (THE cell) and looked inside. "Wanna say hello?"

Kate Delacoeur - October 9, 2011 05:34 AM (GMT)
She did not roll her eyes. She wanted to roll her eyes. but did not. She did not roll them at Officer Felson the desk jockey.

Kate stopped in front of the cell, giving McFadden a quick once over. "I'm Captain Delacoeur. I'll be transporting you to Durlan, and overseeing your stay." That was all she had to say. Kate was not one for pleasantries with inmates. It made you look soft. Captain Kate Delacoeur was not soft.

Then she turned to Goren. "Lets roll."

Goren Felson - October 10, 2011 06:33 PM (GMT)
"Yes, sir," Goren said, getting the distinct feeling someone was NOT rolling their eyes at him. "We gonna wait for your buddies first, or we gonna be crazy?"

Kate Delacoeur - October 22, 2011 04:44 AM (GMT)
"Sullivan should be along any moment." Kate was still trying very hard to not roll her eyes. Felson let the inmates have so much power. It was like he wanted to get his ass kicked.

She pulled out her walkie-talkiie and radioed Sullivan before turning her attention back to the gangly little man in charge of Metro City's most harmless. "So how long you been doing this?"

Goren Felson - October 22, 2011 09:05 PM (GMT)
"Ah, a few years," he said, quietly noting that "less than two" could constitute a few if you squinted your eyes enough. "Haven't seen much action, to be honest. But I can hold my own. You?"

Kate Delacoeur - November 10, 2011 07:01 AM (GMT)
"This time around, not very long. But, before I was Warden for about two years. Before that, this again. It's been my day job for a long time." Kate offered a shrug. Her real career experience wasn't anything to particularly share with some idiot stranger.

Kate looked at her watch. Where the hell was Sullivan? This was the worst small talk ever.

Goren Felson - November 10, 2011 07:17 AM (GMT)
"Wait, you were Warden?" asked Goren. "Do you have any pull with the Mayor? He's... he's been on my personal ass lately... something about avoiding see-oh-es-tee-you-em-ee-ess... says it makes the department look bad..."

Kate Delacoeur - December 17, 2011 08:04 AM (GMT)
"Yeah, the Mayor and I are bosom buddies. We go biking together on Sundays," she said dryly, and then added (snapped, really), "It's probably best you leave the c-o-s-t-u-m-e-s to someone who isn't on desk duty." Jesus Christ, why were they spelling? Kate hadn't smoked in 15 years and she wanted a cigarette. Fuck.

Sullivan chose this moment to show up, smelling of tobacco but otherwise with everything in place. Kate waved her hand between the two men. "Sullivan, Felson. Felson, Sullivan."

Goren Felson - December 20, 2011 02:26 AM (GMT)
"Hey," Goren said, offering a hand and a smile to the fellow peace officer. "Ready to handle a skinny greased pig with razorsharp reflexes?"
