Leyndarmal is a town in northern of Iceland, located near a large bay. Located a well distance from the Ring Road, the town is pretty isolated from the average tourist. That, and the general Icelandic geography and climate, is the main reason why the area appears untouched . By Icelandic standards this town is fairly large, with nearly 3000 inhabitants.

The local economy is based on fishery, as is the economy of many towns in this area of Iceland. The town also makes money off tourism; the bay is popular among whale watchers and the hotels and restaurants in the town profit of these tourists.

The town's name Leyn-dar-mal means "secret".

HISTORY
Leyndarmal was settled by a woman named Elja Garmrdottir around 800. Specific details about the first settlers and the reason why the town was settled remain unknown until this very day. Historians aren’t even sure if the year of settling is correct; most of the Leyndarmal’s history is based on best guesses.

The mystery surrounding the town’s settling is pretty well in tune with the rest of its history. Historians have only been able to discover details reports dating back to 1500. Before that, no one is really sure what kind of town it was. But existing records show that the town has always been a fishing community. The town grew explosively during the early years of the 19th century, nearly doubling its population to 1500. Ever since then the population has steadily grown.

What they do know is that the history of this town, as far as it’s known, is tainted with odd events and strange occurrences. Town’s people have made records off strange symbols appearing across the town and strange events such as vandalism, unsolved break-ins, sightings of unexpected strangers. Some people have claimed to see shades; images of things they knew couldn't be there and would disappear in the blink of an eye. While none of these events are serious, they have occurred at such regular intervals to give the town a certain reputation among its people, and the people of neighboring towns.

CURRENTLY
The town has continued to grow, currently housing near 3000 people. Besides fishery, the town has also started to draw income from tourists and other people. These other people are generally the ones who come to the town trying to figure out its mysteries.

Leyndarmal has been living through another string of strange occurrences. Besides the familiar ones; the strange symbols, the vandalism and the break-ins, some town's people have made reports of, what they now call, 'Shadow Men'; shadows on the floor and the walls belonging to people, but no one has ever been able to cast a glance on who the shadow belongs to before it disappearing.
