"Christoffer Olafsson"
Everybody Hurts

BASIC INFORMATION
Name: Christoffer Olafsson
Nickname: Chris
Gender: Male
Age: 35
DOB: May 23th, 1973
Occupation: Priest

Member group: Villager

CHARACTER’S APPEARANCE
Playby: Ian Somerhalder

Height: 6'8"
Weight: 159 lbs
Build: Tall, and lanky. Christoffer isn’t muscular or athletic.
Eyes: Green
Hair color & style: Chris’ hair is colored dark brown and he prefers to keep it pleasantly messy, he uses small amounts of hair gel to keep it in place. His hair is relatively short; the longest strands don’t reach past his eyes. His tangles generally end in slight curls.

In depth:
Christoffer is very much the boy next door. He isn’t particularly handsome or ugly; he really has one of those everyday faces. People could run into him, have a chat and not remember what he looks like the next day. He’s just that unremarkable. However, he radiates kindness and calm, making sure that those people do in fact walk up to him to have that talk. His face is round and open, his white teeth usually visual through a cracked smile. His skin has thus far remained wrinkle free, except for a few worry lines in his forehead.

Chris inherited both his eye- and hair color from his late father. His eyes are a dull kind of green, not nearly as bright as one might expect. His brown hair is very dark, and actually quite often mistaken for black. While Chris is very aware of the importance of looking well groomed (especially in his line of work), he does not always follow up on this principle while styling his hair. When it comes to his coup, Chris is really quite lazy. He prefers to keep it messy, keeping it in check with gels so that it doesn’t fall out with the rest of his appearance. The same really goes for his facial hair. Chris keeps a very short, hectically trimmed beard and mustache.

When it comes to his clothing, Chris is much more dedicated. When he’s working, he usually goes around in a crisp, black or brown suit. Chris is a little more unorthodox than most priests, and he has purposely forsaken the habit. He does, however, sport the priests’ collar. When he’s not working for the parish, Chris likes to dress in simply, snappy jeans and shirts, usually polo’s. He has a large selection in footwear, ranging from downtrodden sneakers to shiny, polish gentlemen shoes.

In depth:
Chris is every bit as laid back as you might expect from his appearance. He is very easy to get along with, a prime quality for one who chose the path of priesthood. Chris doesn’t fake interest in other people’s problems; he truly is interested. Chris thrives when he’s around others. That may sound simple and in essence that is probably true. Chris is a very simple sort of fellow. He doesn’t need much. Perhaps that is the sign that one is really fulfilling his calling, as if Chris was born to do the duties that he does and really doesn’t need anything else.

He has a solid sense of humor, and is capable of joking in the face of a serious matter. Chris is not afraid to offend people, because he trusts that other people will realize he did not set out to say offensive things. He is quite to forgive, but expects that same forgiveness from others as well. Luckily for others, his transgressions will never spill beyond the border of a badly timed joke. He really has no faults expect maybe the fact that Chris sports a faint form of mysophobia. He likes to keep his house, and his church, spotless. In the little free time that he has, one can often find Chris scrubbing one thing or another.

While he is a priest, Chris isn’t nearly as religious as one might believe. Yes, he believes in God and the bible but he didn’t become a priest to preach either of those. In a way, Chris considers himself more a civil servant than a priest; he took the job because he wanted to provide a listening ear. And many people in this town are in need. However, he does not pretend that he knows what will grant people absolution and he certainly doesn’t act like God is the answer to all problems. Generally, his services are much like those of a psychologist; people find the answer on their own while talking to him.

CHARACTER’S BACKGROUND
Family:
Helga Idasdottir – Mother (69), still lives in the village.
Olaf Markusson – Father (deceased)

Hometown: Leyndarmal
Happiest Memory: The first day he started working in his church, the time when he really felt like he had found what he was supposed to do with his life.
Worst Memory: The death of his father. He died after an extremely short sickbed; fourth stage lung cancer.

History:
For someone who has lived in Leyndarmal all his life, Chris’ life has been strangely mystery free. He was born as the first and only child to Helga Idasdottir and Olaf Markusson. His partners were extremely devout and religious and while that made sure that Chris’ direct environment was a caring one, it also made sure that there was never any real warmth between him and his parents. Of course, he loved them and they surely loved him. But even in his younger years, Chris could never see eye to eye with them when it came to their beliefs.

Chris’ early childhood was pretty much uneventful. If there were strange things going on in the village, Chris barely noticed them. For one thing, he was just too young and his family really did go on unharmed. The first time Chris even grew aware of the fact that something was wrong with the village he lived in was when he started school (his parents never mentioned said events; their religious beliefs simply didn’t allow them to read into such things). It was then and there that Chris’ interest in other people and their stories was born. He learned that if he wanted to know what was going on, he’d have to keep his ears open and invite people to talk to him. Luckily, as it turned out, this wasn’t a self-centered streak in young Chris; he really did enjoy it when people talked to him about the things that were bothering them, especially if he could help. The fact that he got to hear interesting things every now and then ended up being nothing more than a bonus.

Chris was 14 when he finished with what would later turn out to be his primary education. A few months after he had started high school, his father died quite unexpectedly. Chris was forced to drop out of school to help his mother in the same grocery store that the family own. Chris’ father had not died a wealthy man and it was all Chris and his mother could do afterwards to make ends meet. Fortunately, Chris had never taken a keen interest in his education. He had no idea what he wanted to be at that point and he was just as content working alongside his mother in their shop after that.

Things continued on like that for a few years. After Chris had dropped out of school, his friends would often come to the store to talk to him and before long, Chris was working the counter full time; most of the people that came in seemed to have an express interest in exchanging a few words with him. Chris was more than happy to do just that and his mother, who was a businesswoman after all, recognized that Chris alone was bringing in more customers than the shop had had before he started working their.

When Chris turned 21 the priest in the local church passed away and there was no one available to step in. It wasn’t even Chris who first thought of the fact that he might make a good successor. While he had been raised in a religious household and while he did share most of those believes, Chris would never have considered working in the church if it wasn’t for the people that came to see him. More than ones they expressed their wishes for Chris to take up the vacant position and it weren’t before long that Chris became convinced that working in the church might just be the thing he had been looking for. And so he eventually agreed. At the age of 22, Chris was fully inducted. While he had no proper education, their simply weren’t any priests that were willing to work in Leyndarmal which, at the time, was undergoing another series of strange events and so they had agreed to allow Chris to fill up the position.

And ever since then Chris has been happily working in the church. For the past thirteen years, Chris has been caring for his parish, using the money that he makes to support both himself and his mother. His own needs are slim and his household a cheap one. Since a few years his mother has retired and their grocery shop now belongs to someone else.
