No serious, you need to know what you are doing. If you look at the Cached version of Phantom Designs, you can see I really had ideas when I started...

I had enough time to think over Phantom Designs before I started. The name Phantom Designs is one thing. It's a good name wich also attracts people to look at the forums faster.. I thought long about it. Then you need to make sure there is something to get for members from visiting your site... In my case I had a lot of topics open, to reply on and graphics to get. If you look at the first topic (index.php?showtopic=1) wich is a (very ugly) avatar. I also made sure I had some skinners and some staff wich helped me grow. Member 2 (pruned) was OverTheBelow, the only one who could've seen the complete grow of phantom Designs, to bad he left :P Stupid move :P

Second, attractive skin. My skin may technically be a little boring, but the effect of the colours keep members browsing for longer, even if there's nothing to reply on anymore... Also, change your skin once in a while...

Not sure if you've noticed, but I really think out my moves.. For example, when the activity was decreasing a bit, I immedeately organised this contest, wich gives you the chance to win TRC membership, something some members really want. The easiest way to score a little points is by posting. It gained our activity back.

A last thing, I dunno how I did it, but your forums need to be clean. Free from scammers and unbelievable newbs and backseat moderating members. Somehow, Phantom Designs has always been kept clear of that. I think it's the way I moderate..
