ok my horse zak has a habit of cocking his head to the side. its not that he tosses it side to side, but moves his nose so that his head is parallel to the ground if that makes sense

we think its a nervous habit because he was a showjumper previous and got his face pulled on a lot

i have a martingale on him, and use the softest rein i possibly can

right now i gently correct him each time he does it by steadily aplying pressure with the opposite rein to straighten his head out

do you guys have any ideas how to cut this habit?

what like that? Didnt get many pics of him doing it but he always use to do it.

First things first, teeth, back saddle, bit all in the correct place and fitting?

When does he do it, what exactly are you doing when it triggers off? Or is it over nothing? Would you say your asking him too much at the time? Taking him out of his comfort zone or asking him something that he may not want to do.

Smartie had various reasons for doing it, but cant really tell you what will help unless have an understanding on why he is doing it or which situations.

Does he do it out hacking or say inhand if your leading him about alot?

What was he riden in before or have you changed what you ride him in smile.gif

alright, he gets his teeth floated regularly, his saddle had been flocked to fit him exactly, and i just recently changed bits and got my trainer to make sure it fits right.

im not really sure what triggers it, as it seems so random when he does it. hes a bold horse, but he does get worried sometimes, but we can even be at a relaxed jogtrot and he'll start doing it. i keep a gentle contact and dont think its my hands banging him in the mouth... so im really not sure. he never does it inhand tho.
