Apollo sniffed. His black fur, utter black, shifted and rolled as he flexed his muzcles, standing as he was at the edge of the valley and looking it over in a scrutinous manner of appraisal. He thought of what a grand land this was. Any wolf pack would covet such a home. Lush, with good game and plenty of space, and it was well defended, too. He flicked his tail in a silent approval. It made a good home.
Whether he liked the place or not though, he knew with a steely certainty that it was here he would stay. Because in this place was the key to his revenge... he would keep his eye on it. Greedy and death-like would his vigilant watch reign. Yes. That was how it would be. He nodded to himself. And then, to stake his claim on this place, to prove his worth and power (mostly to himself) and simply because he feels hunger gnaw at his insides, he begins to hunt. The smell of blood here is strong here. The caribou are not aware of him, for he is a careful prowler, stealthy. He knows, has known since coming into the valley, where they are nestled, grazing. Even knows how many, and that there are young calves playing. It is one of these he intends to prey upon. It is not a long venture. As his jaws take the life of the calf, the herd has already moved on. And Apollo begins to gorge himself there in that valley, sealing his determination to himself. |
