With the recent release of a patch in WoW with great new content, everyone's really itching for the expansion pack to come out. It got me to thinking about other games with expansion packs, too....

So do you buy them? The experience of WoW is no longer the same if you don't have the BC pack.....can you thoroughly enjoy a game still even if you don't get the expansions? Even games like The SIMS have expansion packs you can add on to keep bringing you new content, so do you buy into them?

If I really like the original game that the expansion was made for, i'll probably buy the expansion as well...it only makes sense smile.gif

Some of the expansion packs offer a lot of new things, while others are really cheap and rushed affairs which aren't worth your time or money.

Some of the best expansions I have played were Starcraft: Brood War, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Diablo II: Lord Of Destruction, and Command&Conquer Red Alert 2: Yuri's revenge.

I had a bad experience buying expansion packs.

I really enjoyed Baulder's Gate (the original), but when I bought he expansion, Tales of the Sword Coast, and instaleld it, the game declared that I couldn't play it outside the US, even though I had bought it in Australia. It locked me out of my game and I didn't play it again.

I'm assuming you're talking about WoW considering your previous warlock post. Have you bought the Burning Crusade expansion yet then? In order to get to the current maximum of 70, you'll need to snatch that up.....and then the next one that comes out will be the Wrath of the Lich King. They haven't set a release date yet, but there's talk of the beta testing coming out soon and people are taking bets about when WoLK will come out...most of them guessing late summer to mid-fall of this year (but BC took forever to release, so who knows?)

I wonder what the maximum level will be for the new WoW expansion will be? Level 99 anyone?

I'm honestly suprised there isn't much of a hype for Final Fantasy XI as I thought there would be as well. Yet Square Enix is working on a new MMORPG to be released sometime - and it's not Final Fantasy related.

It's 80! I'm sure there will be future packs past that which will offer even more levels, but for this one, the top will be 80. biggrin.gif

It's only 80? Wow people are probably going to reach that no problem.

Well most won't reach it 'that' quickly and if they're the type that has the time to reach it within a week or two, then they likely have several alts that they'll want to level up to 80 also. Plus, there's a new "Death Knight" race option and tons of new content. The thing about WoW is that it's not about reaching that max level but about what you can do once you get there. All the new content and challenges just makes it that much more fun to explore and then start working on making your character(s) the best it can be after getting there.
