Food brought people together.

It was a fact of life, something Astrid understood all too well. She took a break from chopping some celery to poke at the small puIdge around her stomach. If only food wasn't so delicious and she wasn't so unmotivated to exercise. But food was so delicious, especially when she made it. Right now the thing on the menu was chicken noodle soup bubbling away in a stew pot on the small stove. It was a bit odd, cooking in someone else's kitchen, but she didn't have her own stove. Yet. It was something she would work on the Warden for.

Sigmund, the runty cat, weaved around her ankles, mewing plaintively for a bite. Conceding - she really was a pushover for her cat - she threw him a bite of chicken. Then she put it in the pot. It was smelling good, and she hoped the aromas were wafting out into the hall, or possibly the small faculty rooms off to the side. Food was the best way to meet new people. Everyone loved food, right?

Behind her the door opened, striking up a flock of small butterflies in her stomach. Astrid forced them to settle. It was just meeting new people - her coworkers. Yes, her coworkers. It made it easier to think of them in that formal, impersonal way. Still, to have a stranger in the room made her nervous in a way she wouldn't have been nervous a few months ago.

Dante entered the faculty lounge, stomach growling. He had rarely come in here since his arrival at the facility but today he had been drawn to the room my a delicious aroma. Dante had yet to eat and so he was starving. He looked around for what was causing the delectable smell when he saw a lovely face before him.

Dante recognized the face from around the building but he could not put a name or position to it. He closed the door behind him and walked over to the pot, and therefore the woman. "I apologize for bothering you but your soup smelt so good I just had to come and see what the smell was. And I apologize again but I seem to have forgotten your name." Dante smiled at the woman and than looked at the pot again, his stomach making an audible growl as he did.

Dante got a sheepish look on his face, showing his embarrassment, before saying "May I have some. It smells delicious." He than looked at the pot once more before turning his attention back to the woman. Despite his focal point shifting, his stomach continued to growl with hunger, food within inches of his grasp.

A door shut behind her, alerting Astrid to the presence of others. At her feet Sigmund mewed, half because of the newcomer and half because he was hungry. She whirled about, knife in hand, to look at the other faculty with wide, gray eyes.

"Oh no, not a problem," she said, stammering at first but quickly regaining her composure, "I'm pretty new, so I don't know anyone's names. I'm Astrid Orville, the new school psychologist."

At first glance, the most she took away from her initial view of the other faculty was 'dark'. His dark hair and dark eyes loomed over her - even though he was of average height for a male, he was still almost a foot taller than she was. He seemed nice enough, definitely hungry, and she willed her heart to slow down. Ever since the incident with her step brother she'd been so jumpy. But now she put on a smile, then turned to stir the soup.

"Sorry, you'll have to wait a few minutes," she told him apologetically, "still needs to cook a bit."

With that she tipped the last of the veggies in the pot, stirring it again. From the look of the overall kitchen area, not many people cooked here.

"So what do you teach? And do you live in here?" she asked, gesturing with the spoon to the other rooms.

What was that delicious, fantastic, riveting and all too enthralling aroma coming from the Lounge Room? His mind nearly exploded with all sorts of emotions, sensations and memories.

The Professor quickly dismissed whatever it was that he was briskly running to and altered his destination. Dodging and avoiding the inconvenient scores of inmates between him and the Lounge he spirited himself through the door rather dramatically expecting to find inside someone familiar.

As he peered inside the room, the aroma came from a steaming pot. There were two younger Marshals inside. He completely entered the room, dressed in his perennial long dark cape, his dark tunic, his flamboyant long sleeves and his traveling boots. He smiled a confused smile at the two.

He had no idea who they were, he was so bad at remembering names, faces or even co-workers for that matter. He approached them, his best manners and politeness showing up. "Hello!"

He stopped for a second, he didn't know what else to say. He was obviously there for the aroma and that didn't help him think on anything else. "I am Professor Maldechor. I don't get out much." He stitched a smile to that last word.

Dante was about to respond to Astrid's question when a new person entered the room. Dante didn't recognize him but he was infuriated. This guy had interrupted a moment. Well maybe it hadn't been a moment yet but Dante had been working on making it a perfect moment. Now he wouldn't be able to even attempt since there was another male in the room.

Dante gave the newcomer-Professor Maldechor? How formal- a quick glance and glare before turning his attention to Astrid-and the food- once more. "As I was about to say before you... so kindly entered to join in the delectable food, I am Dante D'arco. I am a mind specialist and the head of house for Megaera House. It is nice to meet both of you, especially you Astrid."

Dante bent down and kissed her hand, the way tradition in Italy had taught him to do. "Shall we all sit and chat a bit while the soup finishes cooking?" Dante suggested. He would play nice for now. Hopefully the intruder would leave as soon as he got some food. But for now it wouldn't do him any good to be rude. He sat down in a chair and looked at the other two, hoping they would join him. He would enjoy this conversation very much so.

Tobias had expected the witch to answer first, however the other wizard did. He seemed rather too polite; something he’d learned to be careful at, specially here in Furiae. He remembered old Professor Mendelssohn, the nasty corpse gentleman, courteous and fine as a recently filed scalpel. Tobias gave him a wide smile. He introduced himself as Dante D’arco, Mind Speciliast. Then the wizard pulled a noble gesture out from his sleeve and kissed the witch’s hand.
Professor Maldechor disregarded, for the moment, the wizard’s invitation to go sit at the table. At least he supposed the witch wouldn’t for she was still preparing the brew, so he let D’arco, Mind Specialist, sit by the table all by himself. “Nice to meet you Mr. D’arco. You must be one of the new ones right? I haven’t had the chance to meet all of you. Feel free to go by my Laboratorium any day soon.”

Then Tobias walked towards the steaming pot were the soup was being prepared and smiled a huge smile at the witch. He regarded the soup as if it was a big, interesting and quite exotic experiment. Then he beamed at the witch, “Didn’t know Psychologist could cook?” He then muffled a smile behind his hand. “Now really what are we preparing here? Not that I am interested in a small portion at all, if that’s okay?”

He then regarded the Mind Specialist, “You have a nice accent. Its Italy is it? I studied many years ago back in Italy, it ended up horrendously.” He smiled, “Then I came here, or was rather sent. That very first year I became Professor of Evocations, then the next I was Defense against the Dark Arts and even then I rustled up teaching Mechanical Constructs, it was a fascinating class. And now after so many years in this place I am now a Mind Specialist.”

Before the young, dark wizard could say anything, another figure swept dramatically into the room. She stifled a laugh, feeling it might not be quite all polite. He did look a bit older, and somehow she didn't feel he was the joking type. Like the other professor, he wore dark clothing. Suddenly she felt a bit out of place in her emerald robes, bright red hair, and white pants. Bright and cheery, though, was what Astrid did well, and this facility could use some of it. She blushed as Dante kissed her hand, allowing him to hold it for a second before snatching it away on a premise of needing to stir the pot.

"Of course I can cook!" she exclaimed, giving the older man a mock severe look, "Everyone needs an outside hobby, and this is mine. I haven't convinced Sicila to give me an oven in my room yet, so I have to make do up here. It's chicken noodle soup."

She gave the pot one last stir, then put on the heavy black lid to let it sit. The key to good soup was simmering. Then she sat down in a nearby chair, prompting Sigmund to jump in her lap, at the same table as Dante the dark, though opposite of him. She didn't know him yet, so she didn't want to just get all buddy buddy. Especially since he was a mind specialist. To her slight dismay, so was Maldechor. Odd that they would have two. People who could rummage around in her brain were a bit unsettling. Unbeknownst to them, however, Astrid wasn't about to let anyone in even for a quick peek. She was an Occulumens, as a complement to her other abilities, and well versed at keeping out nosy minds.

"So both Mind Specialists?" she questioned, looking from one man back to the other, "How did that come about? And what is it that you do?"

Tobias watched as the witch covered the steaming cauldron and sat at the table next to the other Mind Specialist Mr. D'arco. He instead turned around to face the two of them and reclined on the wood shelf near the kitchen. The aroma of the chicken noodle soup was out of this world, or was it he'd been so far removed from this reality that he had forgotten all about the good things?

"So both Mind Specialists?" she questioned, looking from one man back to the other, "How did that come about? And what is it that you do?"

Tobias answered immediately in an explaining sort of way. "Well I don't blame the Warden. After all the problem with the Faction Wars I stayed behind and when the new Warden arrived she installed me as a Mind Specialist. However, I was a little distracted with my work back in my lab and really got lost of time."

The wizard smiled and seemed sheepishly bashful. "I sort of disappeared for several months or so. So I figure they had to get a new one." As he said this he locked his eyes upon Mr. D'arco. He then turned to gaze at her sweet eyes. "But believe me, with all the troubled kids in here two Mind Specialists are not enough."

"Oh that is smelling pretty good!" he replied as a puff of that magical substance reached his nostrils.

"As for me I teach the inmates whatever they need to know in order to have fulfilling lives once they get out from this place." He took a good look around and snickered, "It has gotten better with time, you should have seen it under the old administration...the place gave anyone the creeps."

Tobias made a slight pause and then asked her, "What about you, apart from being a Psychologist, what are your interest?"
