The river was a long and snaking thing that flowed halfway across the island, but the nearest bits of it were very close to the facility, no more than a quarter mile's walk. Inmates made the trek all the time to do laundry, clean their boots, or just generally splash in the spray. Or drown each other. You know, as the need arose.

Corrigan Livingstone was no exception. It was late afternoon, the sun warm against his back as he made the short hike out. Keeping true to his character, the seventeen-year-old had skipped the day's lessons and simultaneously somehow avoided detention for all of them. By now, the Marshals just tended to ignore him and Corrigan liked that just fine.

The day had the makings of any other day in the facility for Corrigan, and as he walked, gray robes swishing around him (the cloak that's color would ordinarily identify his House for any inmate he didn't know he'd left back in the barracks), he had a chance to think a little. Like it or not, "graduation" was growing steadily closer to Corrigan with every step, and it wouldn't be the good type of graduation. Corrigan knew he was headed for Azkaban, and now that it was so close, he couldn't help think about it.

He rounded the bend. He forgot promptly about Azkaban. He swore, and then froze.

Dead ahead of him, crouched on the bank and lapping at the water, was a large wolf.

Dorian was walking outside. He had heard through whispers in the facility that there was a river nearby. He was in the mood to just relax by the water and maybe wash his face off and cool down. He had little idea where he was going though but he didn't mind getting lost a little. He didn't fully believe all of the creatures he had heard about were truly wandering around the woods. He also was not particularly afraid of them.

Dorian turned a corner, his robes curling around his legs as he did. Suddenly he stopped in his footsteps. In front of him was another boy, he guessed a fellow inmate from the school, and a wolf right in front of him. He had been wrong in assuming the school faculty was trying to scare him. The danger became very clear at this moment. He saw the boy in front of him and wished to help him. He couldn't tell whether he was a fellow pure blood or not but if he was it would be wrong for him to leave the boy to fend off the creature alone. Dorian began thinking of what he could do to help him.

Finally, Dorian decided what he was going to do. Up to now, it seemed the wolf still had not noticed either of them and the boy had not noticed him. Dorian took out the school offered wand and quickly picked one of the many curses he knew and said, pointing the wand straight at the wolf, "IMMOBULUS". The wolf was unable to move now but Dorian did not trust this wand to be anywhere near as strong as his own had been and therefore he did not trust the curse to last very long.

Dorian acted quickly, grabbing the boy by the arm and running back the way they had come. He wanted to get as much space between them and the wolf as quickly as possible in the hopes that the wolf would be unable to find them. He didn't stop until he slipped on a wet patch of ground, taking the other boy down with him. Only then did he stop and catch his breath, turning to face the boy, curious as to who he was. Once he had caught his breath and his wand was away once again, he spoke. "You okay. I thought they were kidding when they told me there were creatures throughout the woods that could kill. I was wrong. And if you don;t mind me asking, who are you anyway?" Dorian continued to sit and catch his breath as he waited, listening for the sound of approaching footsteps just in case the wolf had managed to find them, although he doubted it would, or rather he hoped it wouldn't.

Everything happened so fast that Corrigan barely had time to take it all in. One moment he was contemplating his own mortality, faced with one of the larger wolves he'd ever seen (he couldn't quite recall what the properties of a dire wolf had been, how to tell the difference between it and a regular wolf, but he was fairly certain that he'd be able to pull off a pun about it anyway in a moment here). The next minute another inmate came out of the blue, immobilized the beast, grabbed him by the arm, and the next thing Corrigan knew was that they were racing off back to the facility.

They eventually stopped somewhere in the meadow, after Dorian tripped and Corrigan tripped and in a flurry of flailing and "whoa"s both boys wound up seated on the ground.

"You okay?" Dorian was asking, "I thought they were kidding when they told me there were creatures throughout the woods that could kill. I was wrong."

"Direly wrong," Corrigan said sincerely, snickering. Ha! Get it?

"And if you don't mind me asking, who are you anyway?"

"C-Corrigan L-ah-Livingstone," Corrigan said. He stuck out a muddied hand for Dorian to shake, "Inmate oh-oh-eleven. You?"

Dorian was never known to laugh at such a corny, simple joke but he had to admit it was good timing and so he chuckled slightly as he attempted to clean himself up and wipe some of the mud off on his robes. He took the offered muddied hand and shook it. He was already muddy. a little more mud wouldn't hurt.

"I'm Dorian. Dorian Rosier. Inmate oh-oh-twentynine. I just arrived actually. Inmate eleven? I'm guessing you've been here a while. How is it here? Doesn't seem half bad but looks tend to be... deceiving."

Dorian continued to brush himself off and finally got up, offering a hand to Corrigan as well. As he did so, he realized Corrigan looked about his own age. He wondered if this was right or if looks were deceiving his once again. "I guess I'll have to start believing more of what they tell us, although i still doubt the faculty is always truthful. By the way, can I ask how old you are? You look about my age."

Dorian was honestly curious about the age of Corrigan. He really wanted have a fellow guy to wander around the facility with and this boy seemed like someone he'd get along with. He'd be happy if he could make friends with this guy. And at this moment all thoughts of bloodline had left him in the moment.

"Nice to m-meetcha," Corrigan said, taking Dorian's offered hand and getting up himself.

"Inmate eleven? I'm guessing you've been here a while. How is it here? Doesn't seem half bad but looks tend to be... deceiving."

Corrigan laughed. He knew he wasn't the right inmate to give a valid assessment, so he didn't quite reply; he figured as he wiped his hands down that Dorian would make his own judgement call in the end, with or without Corrigan's opinion interjected into it. The truth was, for all the harm it did to him, unlike almost anyone else around him Corrigan loved Furiae.

"Oh, I g-got that after they ah-ah-instituted th-the n-numbers. We j-just lined up. I happened t-to be eleventh." He shrugged it off, adding, "I've actually b-b-been here since I was eleven, j-just about. Seventeen now."

That magical number. Seventeen. His lopsided grin faded a little, uncharacteristically. Seventeen. One more year. Less than one more year. He'd had dozens of chances - seven, in fact - to get out. He'd had 49 level promotions in his six years at Furiae, and he'd lost them all, and now at last was a method of forcing him out of Furiae that he couldn't avoid just through bad behavior. Corrigan didn't want to think about it.

The grin returned full-forced after a half second though. "You're n-new? That e-explains the wolf." He nodded back to where they'd run from. "M-most anyone else'd've just l-l-let it eat me. I l-liked him though. You th-think it was a werewolf? Ah no, that d-doesn't make sense. It's not even d-dark."

Dorian was in slight shock when Corrigan said he had been here since he was eleven. Six years?! That must have been one hell of a way to spend your teen years. Locked up with a bunch of teen criminals and watching all of them move on while you stayed? Dorian began feeling bad for the guy when reality snapped back in and he realized that he didn't care about this guy. If he needed to savge his own rear, he'd rat this kid out in a hearbeat and not think twice.

Despite this, Dorian did have to admit he found Corrigan amusing to some extent. He hade a quirk that got a reaction even from Dorian, and that was a feat all its own.

"Yea. I'm new. Just arrived but i needed to get out of the stuffy facility already. I needed some adventure and excitement," said Dorian. Than it registered that Corrigan had said something about werewolfs. Dorian knew they existed but this was yet another shock to him. "Wait... did you just say there are werewolfs on this place too? What other creatures are there?" Dorian's interest had been peeked and he hoped Corrigan would be willing to oblige him with some of the interesting beasts that he might run into here.

Dorian also wondered what there was to do around here. "Hey, since you've been here so long, do they ever do anything of interest or do we need to make our own entertainment the FUN way? Not that I mind that, but at least I know what to consider thinking about when I'm stuck in there." Dorian trusted Corrigans word fairly well and had completely forgotten his issue of bloodline for the moment. Soon, he would remember but for now he was content and the thought gone.

"Wait... did you just say there are werewolfs on this place too? What other creatures are there?"

"Oh, loads," Corrigan invented out of pure habit, and then corrected himself upon the further realization that this wasn't an instructional period. "Actually, there were l-loads on the past island, at least... this one, n-not sure." He added then, like his next two words would explain anything that Dorian could possibly have ever wanted to know, "We m-moved."

"Hey, since you've been here so long, do they ever do anything of interest or do we need to make our own entertainment the FUN way? Not that I mind that, but at least I know what to consider thinking about when I'm stuck in there."

"I always d-do my own stuff," Corrigan was saying, absently rubbing the back of his neck. He'd started walking down the path at a slow pace by now, assuming that Dorian would come along with him. "I d-dunno, it sort of d-depends on what k-kind of things you like to d-d-do."

Out of a pocket he produced a slightly smooshed, bready roll that he'd stolen and tore it in half, offering one piece out to Dorian and chewing on the other. "I kinda wouldn't m-mind getting something sweet. Wanna see if there's a b-bee hive somewhere?"

Dorian tried not to show his shock but he knew that was out the window. Instead he tried to block that thought for a bit and focus on the present. "Well what do you like to do? Maybe we'll have something in... i don't know in common." Dorian was grasping at straws in the hopes of having someone to he friendly with here. Friendliness could lead to alliances when he needed it.

When Corrigan passed him the half of a roll. Dorian thanked him and took a small bite. It was no where near the best bread he;d ever had but he was hungry so he was willing to eat it either way. He loved Corrigan's idea to get some honey and put it on the bread and so he got up and began to follow.

Soon Dorian saw a bee hive and went to get some honey. As he approached, a bee came out of the hive and stung him, apparently finding him a threat to the hive. Dorian felt the sting and was not sure what might happen next. He had never been stung by a bee. He knew many guys who had been stung and discovered they were allergic. The last thing he needed was to be allergic. It stung a little but he would be fine so long as he wasn't allergic. He had a tickle in his throat as he got up and said "Freaking bees. All I wanted was a little honey. Jeeze." He turned to Corrigan and waited to see if he would try for the honey next or if they were done for the day. All the while the tickle in his throat continued to nag and the possibility of a bee sting allergy lingered in his thoughts.

"Well what do you like to do? Maybe we'll have something in... i don't know in common."

Corrigan started laughing at the absurdity of the statement. "Sure," he joked, warming up to Dorian rather quickly. "Who's y-your favorite Qu-quidditch team? D-do you play? What p-position?"

The teen grinned over at Dorian to show that he was joking, all while keeping an eye out for their sticky prize. He teased, "Well we're b-both locked up ah-ah-ah-in here for st-starters. That isn't e-enough for you?"

At the bee hive, Dorian's plan for actually getting the honey was about as well-prepared as Corrigan's, really, which is to say that it was non-existent. He trudged along after his new friend, right up to where their presence infuriated the bees and several came out, aggressively.

"Whoa!" Corrigan wasn't getting stung! He backed up rapidly with Dorian, his wand out. Not that he knew any spells for acquiring honey, but hell, he was pretty sure that together they could think of something.

"Freaking bees. All I wanted was a little honey. Jeeze."

"Yeah," Corrigan was agreeing, nodding along. "M-maybe if we tr-tried ah--err..."

He hesitated, staring at Dorian, whose cheeks were beginning to look rather puffy. "Are you - are you alright?"

Dorian felt far from fine. In fact he was finding it progressively harder to breath and he guessed his throat was starting to close. Corrigan apparently could tell something was off but Dorian was trying to figure out what to say that would be quick and waste less air. He finally just said "Get Help!" and fell silent again.

Dorian closed his eyes, trying to keep himself calm and his breathing as steady as he could manage, which was far from easy. He had seen a muggle neighbor have a similar problem and therefore knew what to do until help came. He had no clue if magic would help but his life it seemed, was in the hands of a mudblood. How ironic. He refused to move and waited for help to come. It was all he could do.

Elina had been walking in the woods gathering things up to make more poisons to lace her personal weapons with when she stumbled upon Livingstone and the new arrival who’s name escaped her right now. She was about to leave till she got a good look at the clearly puffed up boy prompting her to look around the area they were in. Bee’s god damned bee’s of all the things that could kill someone at Furiae bees, that was a insult she could not let happen.

Sighing she ran up to them robes a flurry of waving as she pulled Dorian up to lean on her in a swift motion “Livingstone grab my robes” she barked at him before muttering something in Russian at her port key in an instant all tree were back in the courtyard and she was dragging Dorian off to the infirmary.

Pushing the boy on the bed and being none to gentle about it either because that was not who she was anymore she then moved around the room. ”Accio Barberry… Oregon grape!” she shouted flicking her wand watching as the spices fell into a clean cauldron of water ”Just stay still kid breathe through your nose” she told him stirring the stuff

Finally half an hour later after checking the boy and surprised he was not dead yet she helped him sit up handing him a cup of the little brew ”Drink it slowly your going to have to keep taking this till the swelling is gone”

Dorian heard a woman approaching. It wasn't a familiar face but he was thankful none the less. He continued breathing the best he could and remaining calm. He suddenly felt the change in the air as they entered the building. He continued doing what he was doing, silently cursing his luck as he did. He was placed in a bed and remained still as he had been told while continuing to stay calm. Suddenly he felt a coolness over his body and got a shiver up his spine. Some of the swelling went down but he was still curious to find out what had happened to him now.

After about a half hour with the swelling slowed down in its course, Dorian was handed a cup of brew to drink. He drank a bit of it, forcing it down the swollen throat at first. Soon it grew a bit easier and he could fully relax. This mystery woman had saved his hind.

Only then did Dorian open his eyes. The woman was beautiful and, he guessed, a faculty member. he wondered what her name was and how she had found him and where Corrigan was. But he refused to say anything other than "Thanks" as he sipped more of the brew. His throat was quite sore and he felt horrid but he was beginning to feel a bit better as a result of whatever she had made. He was thankful for her help, that's all he knew.

That coolness he felt was one of her own charms she had made and cast on him when she was working on the brew he was now drinking. ”Slowly now you don’t want to throw it up” she said in an oddly soft voice that was unlike her. Truth was it was moments like this though rare she had a soft side and was not as bad as she was seen so often as.

Nodding when he said thank you she spoke again ”Not a problem once upon a time I had healers in my family, just keep some of that stuff on you kid and you will be fine I’ll talk to O’Dair about keeping it on stock” The healer she spoke of was Matteo her one time husband and Murron’s father back when her hair was as blond as her daughters and her eyes a blue green too back when she was known as Nadiya. That was a long time ago though and now no one knew who she was well almost no one.

It was really just as well that a marshal happened to arrive like, right then, because frankly Dorian would have died as Corrigan looked on in dismay.

We're just being honest!

In shock, he grabbed on to Elina at the last moment and they disappeared, reappearing in the courtyard where she'd rushed the pair up to the infirmary and started administering a cure. After thirty awkward minutes later in which Corrigan hovered in the back of the room, wondering if he could go, he decided that he would go after all.

He sort of waved a little to Dorian - sort of a 'sorry I almost got you killed' thing (probably a quarter of the inmates who came to the infirmary were there because of Corrigan) - while behind Elina's back, and then scooted for the door.

Dorian was breathing fine and felt great and was just about to speak to the adult when he noticed Corrigan slipping out of the room. Dorian was a bit upset. "Hey Corrigan, I had a good time. For once. I hope I see you around and maybe we'll meet up again sometime." He stopped to take a breath. "Or you know... hang out and get into trouble." Dorian turned and smiled at the woman as he said that, trying to show he was kidding even though he very well was NOT.

He than turned back to the woman. "Are you a marshal here? Most of the marshals don't seem to care whether or not I die... or anyone else for that matter. This stuff works wonders. Thank you again." He continued sipping the brew, looking around the room as he did. Nothing exciting. But he was not sure were else to look. All he knew was he felt better, he had a new found hatred for bees, he was grateful for the marshal standing before him and her skills, and he hoped to see Corrigan again. Finally Dorian had someone he got along with and he doubted anything would change that any time soon. At least he hoped not.
