There was a steady thudding of hooves as an ash-gray-colored mare cantered through the rolling dunes, her hooves sending sand flying past her. The sun, a ball of gold, hung in the deep azure sky and beamed down on horse and rider. That was why he had donned his dark blue keffiyeh and cloak -- to protect his face, head, and neck from the sun. Pulling on her reins, Cassim slowed the Arabian to a stop, smiling as he spotted the oasis in all its lush green beauty right up ahead.

They had just returned from a visit with a merchant friend of Cassim’s, nothing big, although the man had some particularly interesting news to share with the former thief concerning some rather unsual events in his town the merchant called home.

The horse’s nostrils flared as she caught the scent of water, and her head swiveled in its‘ direction. Chuckling, Cassim patted the side of the horse’s slim neck. “You could use a drink, huh, Dabab?” He asked affectionately.

He didn’t think anything of addressing the animal like that; sometimes, it could be a while before he saw other people, especially during long journeys, so he talked to Dabab and Iago for company. And well, Iago, while he wasn’t human, could certainly talk and think just like one, so that made conversating with him even easier. Dabab nickered in response before trotting towards the shining blue water of the oasis.

Speaking of his little friend, Iago had decided to skip out on this particular trip, choosing to remain behind at the small home that they shared (and prompting Cassim to joke that maybe Iago was getting too old for their trips). Chuckling at the memory, Cassim wasn't aware that there was someone else out here in the harsh environment of the desert.

(Kind of a crappy post -- I'm trying to improve my intro posts, really. ><)

"*Sigh* Agrabah! This is such a wonderful place to get away from it all!" sighed a little black mouse named Minnie as she looked out the window from her beautiful exotic getaway. Things back in the United States were getting really hectic for her, or so she seemed to feel. At Walt Disney World things were just starting to gear back up and she had been in meetings, meetings more meetings and of course rehearsals. God, how she hated those sometimes. So many songs to sing, dance steps to learn and countless costume fittings were getting to be more than she could take.

As she looked out across the beautiful desert oasis, she felt a soft breeze tickle her ears. She closed her eyes and sighed again. Minnie wondered if she was right in telling everyone that she needed some time alone--especially to Mickey. She didn't want him to think her going away was his fault, it wasn't, well not directly....well...it was all started by a....never mind.

"Why am I feeling so...selfish?" thought Minnie to herself. She quickly shook off the thought and went to her dressing table to look at her reflection in the mirror. "If they could only see me now!" she said out loud to the empty room. She pulled her beautiful silk robe around her and went to the closet to find something to wear for her first venture into this new and strange land.

When Cassim and Dabab were only a few feet away from the oasis, he dismounted from the animal’s back and, taking hold of her reins, led her to the water’s edge before releasing her.

As the horse lowered her head to drink, Cassim took a brief opportunity to admire his setting. In spite of its harshness, he had grown to love the beauty of the desert. This oasis was a magnificent sight. A pool of rippling, clear water that tumbled from the nearby rocks reflected the blue sky right back at him, and was surrounded by verdant-green trees and other plantlike. The tops of the trees swayed back and forth in the soft breeze.

However, he couldn’t reflect on nature for long, as his thoughts turned to a more pressing issue, one that had just been bought to his attention by the merchant he had gone to see. Apparently, there was someone going around impersonating him, calling himself the King of Thieves and perpetrating robberies and raids! He wondered if his old comrades, the Forty Thieves, were involved in this. The so-called "King of Thieves" even dressed like Cassim did back when he led the Forty Thieves. It was an outrage! Fortunately, this imposter hadn’t seriously hurt anyone yet, but he was getting more and more daring.

Cassim wondered if Aladdin or anyone else in the palace had heard the news. He hoped that the Sultan or the guards hadn’t. That was all he needed. He knew that those blasted guards didn’t like him (hated him would be more appropriate, especially Rasoul -- Cassim remembered when Aladdin knocked the burly man out when he had interrupted his rescue by his son), but he didn’t know what the Sultan thought of him. And Cassim did not need to have his name besmirched any further then it already was.

He had been trying to better his life in the hopes of being able to return to Agrabah and receive a royal pardon from the Sultan. Whoever this person was, he needed to be stopped. This was a serious matter, and he would probably have to call on Aladdin and his friends for extra aid eventually. But in the meantime, he wanted to learn more about the ‘King of Thieves’ and where he might strike next.

Cassim glanced at the large building that stood several yards awsy, then the rest of the city that encircled it. It was still quite early; perhaps he could go there and see if anyone had anymore info on his double. Once Dabab had drunk her fill, he mounted the horse and made way for the city.

"It's great to be able to go out even though I am staying one of the finest hotels in Agrabah." said Minnie as she was putting the finishing touches to her look. She decided not to wear her signature polka-dot dress and bow because she felt the bright colors would somewhat clash with her sandy, exotic surroundings. Like a clown at a funeral...
She also didn't want to be recognized by any fans.

Minnie searched through her closet and pulled out her Disney Animal Kingdom safari outfit. Perfect! It was an olive green skirt, khaki blouse and a safari hat with animal print bow. After donning her outfit, Minnie looked in the mirror one more time before grabbing her shoulder bag and headed down to the lobby. The lobby itself was huge and she saw people checking in or out, arguing with the hotel managers or some tourists were just leaning up against the wall looking tired.

"So far, so good!" whispered Minnie to herself. She had not been recognized! She took another deep breath and headed outside. The bright light of the desert sun made her eyes hurt, so she tilted the brim of her hat a little lower. Across the busy streets, she saw Agrabah's vendors. The lines seemed endless either way. Of course they were there to get the tourist dollar, but they had to make a living.

Minnie quickly used her innate mouse skills to dart across the busy streets to get to the other side. "Scarves, Rugs, Fine Linens!" were the shouts from the vendors to whomever was interested. Minnie took a look back across the street to see the hotel lobby again to make sure she would not get lost. The calls to come to buy was beginning to hypnotize her like a cobra to a snake charmer.

"Hmmmm....which way to go?" thought Minnie. "I know!" She put one hand over her eyes and used the other hand to point. "Eeenie, meenie, mienie moe!" she said. When she landed on "moe" her finger pointed to the lanes of vendors to her left.

Adjusting the shoulder strap of her satchel, Minnie strutted to the vendors who waved beautiful linens, scarves and bracelets to lure her even closer.

"This is sooooo enticing!" she sang. "This is truly paradise!"

(Sorry for taking such a long time to respond!)

On the nearby rooftop of a cafe, a figure dressed in blue and blue stood posed against the sky. A blue caftan obscured much of his face except his eyes, which followed the starlet in much the same way the eyes of a predator followed its prey.

Using a staff, the figure expertly vaulted from rooftop to rooftop as he followed the unsuspecting Minnie as she made her way down a street lined by rows of vendors’ stands.

Elsewhere, Cassim casually strolled down the broad avenue of the city’s street. He had opted to leave Dabab at a small stable, since people here usually walked rather then rode, considering hw crowded and narrow many of the streets could get, especially at this time of day. He spotted a casino; it was a good thing Iago hadn’t come, otherwise, he would’ve been clamoring for them to go inside and “take a look around”. Now, Cassim didn’t necessarily hate gambling; he only hated it when he was loosing his money.

“Now, where’s a good spot to start?” Cassim wondered to himself. Noticing an alleyway, he thought that that was perhaps a place where he could bump into some of the city’s less-then-upstanding citizens. Maybe they had some information to share.

The mysterious figure was now atop a building that was positioned behind the vendor‘s booth were Minnie was looking. He produced a rope from inside a bag he carried at his belt. After securing one end, the figure began scaling down the side of the building. When only several feet away from the ground, the figure suddenly leapt down, landing in front of Minnie. Unsheathing a dagger from his belt, the figure pointed it at Minnie, the sunlight catching the blade and making it flash silver. “If you do not mind, Miss Mouse, you will be coming with me.” The figure growled in a rough, low voice.

“If you do not mind, Miss Mouse, you will be coming with me.” The figure growled in a rough, low voice.

Minnie could not believe her ears...one minute, she is looking at some exotic scarves, the next....she is facing a dagger and possibly death if she didn't make a false move.

"Wha...?" shrieked Minnie turning quickly. The vendors immediately began running helter-skelter in different directions as if they knew something was getting ready to happen. In the middle of the mayhem, Minnie was accidentally knocked to the ground. She shrieked in pain when she fell and lightly scraped one of her knees. The whole marketplace was now in total chaos!

Minnie managed to somehow get back on her feet, lest she be trampled to death. She finally took a deep breath, and opened her eyes. When her eyes focused on this tall, mysterious strange who now stood over herr, she wanted to believe that he was only a street actor who suddenly came from out of nowhere just to scare her. After that, he and everyone else will laugh and the dagger will magically turn into a beautiful bunch of flowers.

Being in so many situation like this before, she titled her head and batted her eyelashes at this stranger. "Hmmmm....nothing's working? Not even when I turn on the cuteness?" thought Minnie. She turned her head from side to side to see where the other people had gone. Some were peeking out of doorways, others from behind their stocks. If finally dawned on her....there was not going to be any laughter, no flowers, no nothing....

THIS WAS REAL!!

“If you do not mind, Miss Mouse, you will be coming with me.” The figure growled in a rough, low voice.

Minnie began trembling at hearing such a frightening voice. She didn't have a choice...
did she?

The figure snatched a hand out to grab Minnie when the shopkeep close by, who had had his back turned, noticed what was going on, did a double take, and let out an alarmed yell upon seeing a knife. He and the rest of the bystanders recognized the infamous "King of Thieves" from the blood-chillingstories that had been circulating lately. With all of the alarm, the criminal was momentarily distracted from his mission.

In the meantime, screams and shouts came to Cassim’s ears. Wondering what all the commotion was about, he looked around to see several people fleeing from one section of the market, fear on their faces. Cassim did the opposite of what most normal people would have done if they saw a stampede of frightened people and ran in the direction that they had just come from. As he turned the corner, he saw a figure dressed a lot like he had done back when he led the Forty Thieves, grabbing for a mouse-lady with one hand while holding a dagger close by her neck with the other.

Cassim thought quickly. He did not wish to endanger his double’s victim any further, but he couldn‘t let the person get ahold of her either. Drawing his scimitar from his belt, Cassim charged. “Say now friend, that’s no way to treat lady!” He shouted as he ran, causing the phony to turn his head to see who had dared to yell at him.

Minnie wanted to think that this was all a dream...she wanted to seriously believe that she was going to wake up to find herself back in her cozy house in ToonTown, waiting for her Mickey to come by, or go shopping with Daisy....

Why me?

Will I ever see home again?

But then she felt a sharp blade against her throat and she could feel her nervous blood pulsing through her veins from her frightened heart. She was very much in the middle of a nightmare, not a dream -- being held a captive by a tall, dark and very dangerous stranger. She tried to struggle to get away from him, but his grip on her arm was so tight she almost felt it would break if she tried to pull away again. All around her she heard screams and the blur of people running into their houses or stores leaving her on her own.

She wished Mickey was here....but instead she heard another unfamiliar voice. This voice sounded so...brave and unafraid...maybe there might be hope for her after all! For the first time, she truly opened her eyes and was shocked at what she was seeing! Both of the men were of the same height and build...and more so, they looked exactly ALIKE!

Minnie could hear the jagged breathing of her captor, and her arm started growing numb in his grasp. He still was not thinking of letting her go. Her savior ran toward them, taking out a scimitar from the belt at his waist.

Minnie thought she was going to faint....things were starting to get blurry....
