* Received lots of acclaim for playing orphaned 14-year-old Hyeonsu Hwang in flashbacks of the action-drama Mars (2007).
* Turned down a role in a movie to star in teen sitcom I love you girl (2007) as Jinho Ham, an ambitious bookworm who’s always first in his class.
* Started getting attention for rebellious teen roles starting with Juhyeok Jo, the wayward son of the main character in Cloudy Day (2008).
* Gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of a troubled teen in the movie Blue Sky (2010), the only feature length movie in which he was the main character. During the production, he caused a stir by collapsing on set twice. Won the Best New Actor award for the Motion Picture category in the 2010 Baeksang Arts Awards, one of the youngest actors to win the award. Won the New Actor award in the 2010 Blue Dragon Film Awards.
* Gained popularity both in Korea and internationally – mainstream appeal in Thailand – for his role as Daniel Kim in teen sitcom Hi (2010), a sophisticated, American-born Korean with a movie star mother.
* Turned down another sitcom for a role in Miss you (2010) at the end of 2010. Miss you tells the stories of three different people of various ages and occupations who miss a certain person – a first love, a dead daughter, and a long-lost mother. * Played a cameo role in Summer Vacation (2011) for former co-star of Hi, playing a character opposite from his role then as rude, spoiled rich boy Hyeokjun Kwon.
* Played a cameo role as wild, clubbing oppa/hyung Cheonho Baek in After School (2011), a teen sitcom about the lives of five high school students.
* Won an award in the 2011 SBS Drama Awards for the category of Drama Special for his role in special production drama Under the bridge (2011) as Junwon Song, a troubled but good-hearted runaway living with three other teenagers under a Han River bridge.
