Life in Seoul is pretty crazy. Don’t get me wrong; I love it here. This concrete city is a wealth of fantastic diners, fashion-forward retail, and a nightlife some people can only dream about. Still, it’s easy to get lost amongst the millions of people who crowd the sidewalks, often in too much of a hurry to realize that they just bumped into – Hey! Well, that was rude. Where was I? Oh yes. You’ll start to feel pretty insignificant after a while; just another face in the crowd.
Now just imagine if all those millions of pairs of eyes were suddenly trained to follow your every move. Everything you eat, everything you say, everything you do, they will know about it. Most will do it because they worship you; others will do it to bring you down the moment you slip up. Getting the picture? People like this exist, you know. People constantly in the spotlight, loved and hated by many. They’re known as idols, the epitome of what Seoul socialites desire to be. Whether they’re singers, actors, models or even dancers, their mission is still the same: entertain the mass public.
Some of them succeed, others fail. The entertainment business of South Korea is a tough one - one day you could be in, the next day you could be out. Sounds pretty scary, right? Even so, the reward of fame and the knowledge that millions of people are modeling themselves after you, a tiny (now significant!) human being, far outweigh the risks associated with getting there.
So, think you’ve got what it takes to steal the spotlight? You’re going to want to start small – maybe with an entertainment company. I hear Epika has been recruiting lately. Why don’t you check them out first? They are the best after all. Oh, and if you go, tell them I sent you. They’ll recognize my name!
