The year is 1916 and the war is raging throughout Europe, leaving the men fighting for their lives and the women manning the home front. The war has touched Downton deeply and now the Crawley family and their servants are feeling the ramifications. The days of frolicking in the sun and living the life of luxury are over and hardships and turmoil are affecting each and every one of them. Come along and join in – there are main characters still free and plenty of others too. We’re happy to let you fill in the story so far but we’re now running an AU of Series 2. Enjoy!

Is it complete? No (10/?)
Reason for recommendation: I honestly don't have the words for how excellent this story is. The pacing is phenomenal and the characterisations, especially when it comes to Carlisle, are uncanny. It's an odd pairing - although there's definitely a case for it - but Robert Cora Fan makes it look effortless and the attraction between them springs up so realistically and it doesn't seem at all forced. Even the secondary characters - Robert, Mary and Jane mostly - are well done and there's no villifying any of them. Just seriously, you're really really missing out if you don't give this fic a chance. The latest chapter is the best of them all.

I'm actually writing Chap 11 now, and procrastinating by reading this site. WHAT a surprise to see my fic mentioned! It IS an odd pairing, so it was really important to me to make it seem credible. Seems to have worked!

Anyway, back to Chap 11...Thank you again!
