Description: ... starts tonight!
Rose - April 23, 2011 01:43 PM (GMT)
Who's watching? :D
Despite the fact that River Song makes me want to pluck out my own eyeballs, I am very much looking forward to this!

Yeah, I've been looking forward to this, but why so early? I've had to set it to record.
I'm glad they've got Rory in it too, he's brilliant in a nerdy/funny sort of way and it's nice for the Dr to NOT just have a female companion.
I don't mind Riversong, but she's been in it FAR too much lately - she really needs to take a very long break.
Thanks for the link for the trailer - just popping off to watch it now!
Edit - Just watched it now and it looks awesome, but seriously, Dr and Riversong? Urgh! Had a feeling they might head that way, but was hoping they wouldn't. Sigh - will just have to wait and see.
Ruth - April 23, 2011 03:45 PM (GMT)
I am so excited about this! /nerd
As someone tweeted earlier today, "<3 hours to go" - I think that sums up my feelings on the matter! :D

6x01 spoilers! [/River]
...if Amy is actually pregnant, I will scream.

I have never seen this and have no idea what it is about.
My netflix will stream a Dr. Who series that started in 2005, but it says it is a continuation of an already canceled series. Can I watch this new show and understand what is going on? Will it explain everything to me? Is it a good show?
Give me 3 good reasons to watch it!
ClaireH - April 29, 2011 06:00 AM (GMT)
mlt. you don't need to have watched the old series at all, you can start fresh with the 2005 series and it will explain everything!
(Edit to add) - Essentially, it's about an alien called the Doctor, who is a Timelord - he has a TARDIS (essentially his 'spaceship' but it's better than that) in which he can travel in time and space. So basically he travels to different planets (or stays on earth quite a lot as well) but at all different time periods too, and has to 'save the day'. Please, someone, make it sound better than I just did... It is really good if you like sci-fi, but I also find it brilliantly funny.
1) Time travel is REALLY cool
2) The Doctor is often hilarious in a barmy sort of way
3) The TARDIS is bigger on the inside... That's just cool...
My personal favourite line of the first episode was this:
"I need a swat team, local area maps, (other important things), twelve jammy dodgers and a FEZ!"
I love the hat thing he's got going on...
Totally with you all on River Song. I HATE that she can fly the TARDIS better than the Doctor, that's just wrong! I'm really glad Rory is in too.
What did we all think of the first episode?
Ruth - April 29, 2011 11:55 AM (GMT)
Three good reasons to watch New Who - Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith. That is all. :D

http://www.atvtoday.co.uk/index.php?option...yespy&Itemid=19I just found this, it is a news article talking about the pirate episode in Doctor Who.
It has Hugh Bonnehive & Lily Cole, and Matt Smith and Gillian (the woman?)
Funny how doctor who says "
there's is a homocidal mermaid" xD
I never watched it but I may start to after exams xD
Do people reccommend it? Is it really good?
under_ordinary_moonlight - May 3, 2011 08:52 AM (GMT)
I like River, even if that does set me in the minority XD (Her flirting with the Doctor is totally hot AND leads to Matt Smith being sexier than usual HOW IS THIS A BAD THING. Besides, if you've seen the Library two-parter we know that they aren't together Forever And Ever In Unending Love...)
However, my affection for River is NOTHING compared to my rabid Rory fangirling. THAT MAN. Steadfast and adorkable and so CUTE when he's angsting and sweet and HECANMANUPWHENHENEEDSTO and looks so good in a suit and -
...I watch it for the plot.
(No, really, I do. Even if I have to watch it a couple of times, now that The Grand Moff is involved. I still need to rewatch the last series to make sense of what exactly happened with the Pandorica.)
"You're making that 'he's hot when he's clever' face."
"This is my normal face."
"Yes it is."
hnnnnngh This is the first week when I'll be able to watch it live - been at work for the past two Saturday evenings (actually, technically, I'm at work this Saturday, but since it's a waking night I don't start until 10PM...) Does anyone else tweet through it?
On a more Downton-related note, my crush on Hugh Bonneville is probably going to triple when we see him as a PIRATECAPTAIN.
And - yes. It is really good. It's scary, and it's confusing, and Matt Smith does look a lot like a potato (a sexy potato, but still a potato), and it is ridiculous at times...and it's amazing. I love it. (As you may have guessed)
ETA - PREQUEL TO PIRATEBONNEVILLE EPISODE
PIRATES. BONNEVILLE. BEARD.
Laura - May 7, 2011 07:49 PM (GMT)
Just caught up on LAST week's Dr Who! Wow, what a cracker and pretty creepy in places. Will have to watch the next one soon.
I'm so glad that they've kept Rory in it - he's the best character by far. So cute and adorable, but, as under_ordinary_moonlight says, he definitely can man up when he needs to. I think he definitely provides the comic and the ahhhh factor and him and Amy are really sweet. I also like that it's NOT just the Dr and a girl, having another character around makes it much more interesting.
Anyway, if you haven't watched it yet, it really is good fun. It's sort of sci-fi, with aliens and time travel, but it's meant for all the family and is very entertaining. I don't think you have to really be into sci-fi to enjoy it.
Can't wait for all the questions to be answered from this first 2 parter (and what of that inclusive scan the Dr did? VERY interesting!
Rose - May 7, 2011 08:08 PM (GMT)
PIRATES! AND HUGH BONNEVILLE! EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW.
And I want to be spoilery but I'm going to refrain.
It's just SO GOOD.
And we need Pirates!Downton!AU right now.

PREACH, SISTER, PREACH.
Matthew Crawley - May 8, 2011 12:48 AM (GMT)
LOVED. IT.
Also, how FLAMING TERRIFYING was that scary thing when she turned red??!!!
ClaireH - May 8, 2011 12:56 AM (GMT)
Well. Who would've guessed that Matthew would be a fan of Doctor Who?! Clearly he's actually met the Doctor and popped into the future to watch it. And post online about it.
You learn something new every day!
(Ok. MAYBE I just forgot to log out.) *hangs head in shame*
Laura - May 8, 2011 01:02 AM (GMT)
Darn you Claire - now I am SOOOOOO imagining Matthew in the TARDIS and going off fighting aliens! Managing Downton will be a walk in the park after a few weeks with the Dr! I bet Mary will be most impressed by it all too - in fact, she could come along!
If Matthew DID show up in Dr Who, well, let's just say TV Heaven! Move over Rory, there's a new man in town!
Seriously though, last weeks Dr Who has made me SUCH a big Rory fan now. His whole scene where he overhears stuff and then later realised the truth was just awesome and sooo heartbreaking and sweet! Especially when he then later worries again. Poor guy!

Okay, seriously, CANNOT wait to see this now!
It does sound like they're making more of Rory this series, less of just a sidekick's sidekick, which is great!
Rose - May 8, 2011 01:05 AM (GMT)
Matthew would definitely be terrified by the Siren.

I could! Considering the episode could basically be summed up by the following quote:
"I'd have to know more about the sea monster in question." ;)

Wow that episode was really good.
I agree Eolivet about the "sea monster in question". ^_^
Boheville was really good as Captain Avery and I loved his scenes with Toby. Amazing!
I wished that DA S2 had flashbacks of him with his little girls >_< that'll be so sweet and lovely! Wait... maybe Robert gets injured and when he drifts into unconciousness he reminisces of his daughters and wife. I just wish to see him with his daughters and being a dotting daddy. (usually when characters are injured and possibly about to die they almost always show flashbacks. Hope its without Robert's death.)
I wonder if Mary would be the siren?
I loved Dr.'s quote "there is a stroppy homicidal siren" on board, quite funny.
ClaireH - May 8, 2011 08:53 AM (GMT)
I forgot to mention Captain Bonneville lol :D
I thought he and the Doctor bantering in the Tardis was just utterly BRILLIANT!!!
And I just LOVE the Doctor's thing about hats. Love it.
Eolivet - May 15, 2011 05:20 PM (GMT)
Last night's Doctor Who was SO GOOD! :D I've only read one of Neil Gaiman's books (Neverwhere), but a lot of it reminded me of that book -- I remember the character of the Marquis de Carabas totally reminded me of the Doctor, and the whole dystopian steampunk society thing (the House planet) seemed very familiar...
And anyway, the Doctor and TARDIS totally had sex, didn't they? :ph43r: I mean, they were hurtling through space on the cobbled together TARDIS, being jostled every which way, sparks flying everywhere and the Doctor was yelling "You sexy thing!" Right? It's not just me that thought that?
Either way...amazing, amazing episode. :)
ClaireH - May 15, 2011 05:31 PM (GMT)
LOL Eolivet!!!
I actually thought it was incredibly touching. I have to say that, as a whole, the plot really didn't make sense to me (they don't much nowadays generally, to me) but I thought it was incredibly touching seeing the Doctor and the TARDIS being able to talk to each other! I loved it!!
I loved that he called her Sexy. And I loved the moment when he realised who it was!!
On an entirely different note...
Wasn't "Finish him off, girl" the most CHILLING thing he's ever said?!?!?!
under_ordinary_moonlight - May 15, 2011 07:21 PM (GMT)
NGL, I totally ship Doctor/TARDIS now.
...possibly Doctor/Rory/TARDIS (...she thinks he's pretty! and she's right!)
I love love love Neil Gaiman - his short stories are glorious, Sandman is just... Sandman is fantastic on so many levels. And American Gods is one of my favourite books. And Stardust is so wonderful and -
...yeah I'm a bit of Gaiman fangirl. And I wasn't disappointed by this episode :3
(Also, on the trailer for the series, I could spot the "fear me, I've killed hundreds of timelords/fear me, I killed all of them" as Gaiman-writing from a MILE OFF XD)
ClaireH - May 21, 2011 11:13 PM (GMT)
I think I might just love Rory. That is all, from tonight's episode. He's just brilliant!
Eolivet - May 22, 2011 01:23 PM (GMT)
I didn't hate last night's ep as much as most of the Internet (or at least my corner of the Internet) -- though the lady who was Cleaves looked so familiar, it was driving me crazy trying to figure out where I've seen her before!
I don't remember the actor's name who was Buzzer, but I liked him as Chris in "Life on Mars" (and the one season of "Ashes to Ashes" I watched), so it was nice to see him again. :)

I am very, very much in love with Rory. Very much so.
(My boss printed out pictures of Rory for me to reward me at work. Partly as an apology for me doing extra hours. Partly to mock me. Joke's on him, I can has RORY IN A SUIT.)
(Said love for Rory is being well-documented on tumblr.)
Laura - June 2, 2011 09:29 PM (GMT)
Can't believe no ones posted yet about the end of the last episode! Man, that was some cliff hanger and I so did not see all that coming.
Been watching the trailer and the previews for the next episode and it looks super duper awesome. Rory in the trailer looks particularly badass :D
I think it's going to be a long wait after next week's episode for the rest of the series. What fool was it I wonder at the BBC who decided splitting Dr Who up into two mini series was a good idea? It's bad enough they do that with American shows, I hope they don't start that with British shows too. They're already so much shorter!
Imagine if they started doing that with things like Downton Abbey!
