GREETINGS  


  


From a human point of view, the death of Heaven and Hell was quiet. Mortals did not notice any changes, but that doesn’t mean that there were none. Hell has risen, slipping up through the cracks, and Heaven has fallen, burning through our skies and landing them both on our humble Earth. Demons and Angels have taken human vessels and walk among the mortal humans, forced out of their homes for an unknown reason. The Apocalypse? They don't know if this is it. Neither can get in touch with their leaders, the Devil or God, so they are left to wander the Earth helplessly, but not alone. The Undead, Were-animals and Skinwalkers, beings of Hell, are also there, though having been on Earth for quite a while with Hunters on their trail. Mediums can sense these presences; more and more are realizing their power since the residents of Heaven and Hell arrived. Hundreds of other kinds of supernatural creatures roam the Earth. After all beings who couldn't take a mortal vessel have perished, leaving the rest to be imprisoned in the earthly world. Even in small town Texas, where our story takes place, mortals can not escape this otherworldly drama.

THE RULES
THE FAERIES
To become one of the Undead, you must either exchange blood with another Undead individual on the verge of death, or be raised from the dead by use of a very complex and difficult curse to cast. You cannot go back from being Undead, nor can you die, but rather your body be destroyed by being burned into ash. They feed only on human flesh and blood; the older the Undead person is the easier it is for them to control that hunger. They could be called a mixture of vampires and zombies, but are rather a lore of their own. They are not vampires and they are not classical zombies. The best way to describe them is 'voodoo zombies'. They are considered beings of hell. Hunters really, really don't like them. At all. They are on the top of the Kill List. Also, beware: The Undead tend to have aggression issues, and a short temper by their nature.

THE MEDIUMS
These are humans, but somehow have the ability to sense the supernatural. Not just ghosts, but demons, angels, the undead, skinwalkers and the like. Every Medium has their own way of 'sensing' the presence, usually having to do with one of their five senses. For example: feeling cold all of the sudden, smelling something particular and unearthly, an odd taste in their mouth, an inaudible whisper in their ear... It is different for every Medium, but have only one way of knowing. Not all of these individuals know they are Mediums. Some have it run in the family, while for others it appears out of nowhere.

THE HUNTERS
These are humans, usually of the same blood line, that track and destroy supernatural beings. They consider them to be evil and not belonging here on Earth. Though most Hunters go after the Undead, Ghosts or Demons, some have been known to track Skinwalkers or even Angels. Most will know some simple curses, but since the fall of both Heaven and Hell, they can kill the Demons and Angels just as they would a human if they do not find another vessel quick enough.

THE DEMONS
As creatures of hell, they have been given quite a bad reputation, and most of it is well deserved. Since Hell broke, forcing all to earth, they have sort of fallen into the world as anyone else. They do not have all the powers they once did, and were significantly weakened, but they have some abilities left. Teleportation, somewhat superior senses and strength are what most have, but some of the 'high up' demons can still preform some serious supernatural curses or spells. They are not human, but have been forced to flee to human vessels of all shapes and sizes around the world. Good or bad, however, almost all Demons have manipulative and cunning qualities.

THE ANGELS
Just as not all demons are demonic, not all angels are angelic. They have an undeniable charm, and it is easy to find yourself trusting one, but they have been weakened just as those of Hell. Like the demons, they have the power of teleportation, somewhat superior senses and strength. Angels also have the use of wings, but they aren't used very often. They have also been forced to take human vessels after Heaven fell. Good or bad, pretty much every Angel has strangely charming qualities, and poor human social skills (because most angels have stayed in Heaven all their existence, not mingling with humans), meaning most aren't used to the human world unless they've been there for a while.

THE SKINWALKERS
In Native American legend, Skinwalkers were humans who wore the pelts of animals in order to change into that kind of animal. In reality, Skinwalkers may look and act human, but are not. They are considered creatures of Hell originally, but have taken a life of their own. You can only become a Skinwalker if it is in your blood, but the gene can sometimes skip generations. They can take the shape of any earthly animal they chose, as long as they have the fur, feather, scales, etc of that animal. They cannot change into other human forms. The transformation will last up to twenty four hours before the spell is broken and they will return to human form, usually to rest. Transformation will drain their energy significantly. Most Skinwalkers have one preferred animal to take the shape of.

THE GHOSTS
When a human being dies a violent or traumatic death, a ghost is born, a spirit. They have no physical body, do not age and sometimes have trouble remembering parts of their past life. They are unable to enter Heaven or Hell (even before the Fall) until their souls are put at rest. Ghosts are not always evil, but sometimes they can become violent. Some spirits are completely nonviolent, and will simply mourn for eternity, while others may take our revenge on whatever way they choose. Hunters will go after them if they start causing havoc. A destructive ghost is sometimes known as a poltergeist.

THE WERE-ANIMALS
Weres are humans that were infected by another Were, turning them into, technically, a hybrid human-monster. They will take the shape of an animal (werewolf, werecat, werebear, etc) during every full moon. They have no control of this supernatural illness and there is no cure. They can be killed like any other human, but it must be with the use of genuine silver (silver bullets, silver knife, etc). The infection also causes a more aggressive personality to arise, superhuman strength (whether they are currently in their Were form or not) and heightened senses - much like the more 'animal' side. The Were illness does not run in families, so an individual must be infected by it to become one.

THE WITCHES
Witches are human with magical blood in them. Not just anyone can become a witch. Without that innate ability, a human can't use more than a few simple tricks. Witches can be very powerful, but that takes a lot of practice and a lot of studying. They must learn magic in order to practice it, since they are not born with knowledge of its workings. Witchcraft runs in families, so most witches are taught by family members. However, it can skip generations. Both men and women can be witches. There are many forms of magic, from all around the world, so possibilities are endless. The most common and basic type of witchcraft involved using the biological materials of supernatural creatures (bones, blood, hair, teeth, feathers, etc.) for spells, potions and so forth. Supernatural objects (such as haunted objects, fairy dust, crosses, holy water, etc.) can be used in a similar way. Witches can also curse or bless ordinary objects to make them supernatural. For example, some hunters turn to witches to bless their weapons, believing that they will have better luck when hunting supernatural creatures. History also shows us instances of this behavior. Once thought of as real, then reborn into things like entertainment and religion, witches have always been a part of human history.

THE HUMANS
Then there are the humble humans. Most do not know about the fall of Heaven, or the cracking of Hell, nor of any supernatural beings. Some have been enlightened of it, usually by accident, but are otherwise oblivious.

OTHER SUPERNATURAL BEINGS
There are other types of beings in this world, almost too many to count. None is all powerful, and every one has a weakness. Some are evil, while others aren't or may just be cursed. Vampires, deities, shapeshifters, the undead... It's endless.
