GREETINGS

From a human point of view, the death of Heaven and Hell was quiet. Mortals did not notice any changes, but that doesn’t mean that there were none. Hell has risen, slipping up through the cracks, and Heaven has fallen, burning through our skies and landing them both on our humble Earth. Demons and Angels have taken human vessels and walk among the mortal humans, forced out of their homes for an unknown reason. The Apocalypse? They don't know if this is it. Neither can get in touch with their leaders, the Devil or God, so they are left to wander the Earth helplessly, but not alone. The Undead, Were-animals and Skinwalkers, beings of Hell, are also there, though having been on Earth for quite a while with Hunters on their trail. Mediums can sense these presences; more and more are realizing their power since the residents of Heaven and Hell arrived. Hundreds of other kinds of supernatural creatures roam the Earth. After all beings who couldn't take a mortal vessel have perished, leaving the rest to be imprisoned in the earthly world. Even in small town Texas, where our story takes place, mortals can not escape this otherworldly drama.

NOT ALWAYS LIKE THIS
IT'S A TERRIBLE WEAKNESS IN MY NATURE, IN MY BLOOD

Small storms of dust followed in her wake as she made her way along a path that she assumed turned into a road at some point. She couldn't remember how long she had been walking for, nor could she figure out just where she was going. Time was a bit of a blur nowadays. Minutes ran into days, which ran into weeks. It was an unsettling sensation to say the least. Not knowing where you were going. Having no end destination. Brown eyes flashed as her thoughts turned dark; jaw setting in a tight line as she brushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

A faint breeze sent a shiver racing down her spine. There was something very...wrong. It lingered in the air around her. Something very nearly tangible. A trembling hand reached into a pocket in her bag to retrieve a pack of cigarettes. As soon as they found purchase on their intended target, the trembling stopped. Swiftly she removed a single white paper cylinder from its package, lifting the familiar item to her lips eagerly. The package was then returned to her bag and exchanged for a lighter. A quick flick and then flame; warm and comforting. Oh sweet nicotine.

Her booted footsteps were the soundtrack to her walk. She felt like the only living thing for miles and she might have believed that, if it wasn't for the overwhelming scent of civilization. Shifting the bag on her shoulder, she picked up the pace; cigarette dangling from between her lips as she walked. There was supposed to be a town somewhere around here if the signs were correct. Judging from the surrounding area, they might be relics from a forgotten era. She hadn't planned on stopping so soon but the heat was getting to her. Water was very much on her mind. Food too. Cigarettes had long since ceased to fill the void left by the former.

On the outside, her features were neutral. Betraying nothing. On the inside her mind was racing a million miles a minute, her heart pounding away in its bone cage. What was she doing? Was was she here? She had traipsed across what felt like the entire country and yet, now she was here. Where ever here was.

She crossed into the city limits but paid no attention to the signs. Civilization. Finally. It would be nice to be among...people. The word was not one she liked to use much. It simply felt all kinds of wrong and made her feel guilty. Lighting up yet another cigarette, she held her head high; her stride confident. No one was going to push her around. She was damned sure of that. Now, where was the best place to go to first...

Hera, despite her regal calm appearance, was getting desperate. Because of her high standards and the constant threat of her plan being revealed to those more powerful than her (at least, more powerful than her for now), she was having trouble securing an alliance with someone in order to produce children, and therefore the next Olympus, where she would be the sole dictator. Now she was looking for friends and potential "'projects" - people to be molded to her advantage - of any type, not just to use as a quick mate to later be discarded. However, being social, charming and friendly were not her traits. She was a shrewd woman who wished to command obedience and loyalty, not the type of person to try to woo someone she considered "lower" than her status as a goddess, fallen or not.

She had been exhausting almost all of her connections in order to search for allies, and she was beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel. She sat outside a coffee shop with a flask in one hand and the other rubbing her temple. She was growing tired. The longer she spent like this, in near human form, the weaker she was getting. Hidden amongst all her arrogance and jealousy, Hera needed the power of others in order to rule. Without her fellow gods and goddesses, she was next to useless. All she had left at her disposal was her mind. She has all the cunning of her mother Rhea and the ruthlessness of her father Cronus. Since she had lost her brother and husband Zeus to time and petty argument over supremacy, Hera was alone.

With frustration bubbling through her veins, she watched the street, hatred in her eyes. Mortals really did annoy her beyond belief. They were like cockroaches, scampering around her constantly. She didn't understand how such vermin could have survived this long. She would have thought that they would have perished long ago. She was spotting more and more of the supernatural, however, so that raised her hopes. She was losing her ability to sense the otherworldly, but her connections had lead her to some witches who provided her with the means. Her detection sense was perfect, but it was better than nothing. Even now she was able to spot a lone werewolf trekking across the streets. Something about this were peeked her interest. Maybe it was just the crushing frustration and disappointment that Hera was quietly suffering, but she saw potential. It couldn't hurt to try and confront any and all potential allies, even if weres were only a few pegs above normal humans.

Hera gracefully untwined her legs from their crossed position, pocketing the flask that had offered her mortal comfort, and resuming her full queen-like presence. No matter how far down she sank, she would never act like some kind of lowly scoundrel. She approached the stranger werewolf. Hera's face was as severe as ever, but she forced a tiny smile to appear, trying to look somewhat welcoming. "What are you doing here?" she said plainly. Hera didn't mess around with names or hellos or petty small talk. She was going to get her answer, assess the stranger's worth and decide what to do next. She didn't like to waste time.
