From a human point of view, the death of Heaven and Hell was quiet. Mortals did not notice any changes, but that doesn’t mean that there were none. Hell has risen, slipping up through the cracks, and Heaven has fallen, burning through our skies and landing them both on our humble Earth. Demons and Angels have taken human vessels and walk among the mortal humans, forced out of their homes for an unknown reason. The Apocalypse? They don't know if this is it. Neither can get in touch with their leaders, the Devil or God, so they are left to wander the Earth helplessly, but not alone. The Undead, Were-animals and Skinwalkers, beings of Hell, are also there, though having been on Earth for quite a while with Hunters on their trail. Mediums can sense these presences; more and more are realizing their power since the residents of Heaven and Hell arrived. Hundreds of other kinds of supernatural creatures roam the Earth. After all beings who couldn't take a mortal vessel have perished, leaving the rest to be imprisoned in the earthly world. Even in small town Texas, where our story takes place, mortals can not escape this otherworldly drama.

Of course it had to be raining. The mud sloshed around under her boots, but her footing remained strong. Though she had a leather jacket on, her hair was soaked as well as her clothes. Her t-shirt and jeans clung to her body, weighing her down and making her skin prickle with the chill. Blood was stuck under her fingernails, dried by now, since she was taking a lot of time at the graveyard. It had started to rain so suddenly, she hadn't expected it or had time to prepare, but this didn't slow her down. She was lowering a vampire body back into the ground, after stabbing it in the heart. These vampires she was tracking, not the coven she had followed from her home, was so old fashioned. They allowed their members to be buried after "death" in order to cover their tracks, so she had been picking them off one by one. They were trying to raise in numbers, but Helga would be damned if she ever let that happen. Over her dead, bloodless body.
She whipped the rain and sweat from her forehead, having finally finished reburying the freshly undead (and now permanently dead) corpse. It was the dead of night, so she expected to be left alone. She had made allies with the watchman at this hour for this reason - for a certain sum of money and a certain amount of flirting - but she still remained on her toes. You never know what could happen.
Helga was working hard to keep up with the rise in the monster population in Redgrove, but she just couldn't match their stride. They were too many in numbers, and she was just one woman. She wished her sisters could be here to help her. She knew other hunters were in the area. Every attempt at forming an alliance or comradeship with them had been unsuccessful. Helga was annoyed, but slightly amused by this. Most of these hunters were young and inexperienced. They hadn't learned the value of an army yet. So much more could be done in a group. All she needed was one. She was considering even training a new hunter of her own, taking on an apprentice but that would mean hours of training, hours that could be used for hunting. However, it would be fruitful in the long run. She'd have to think about it.
Her thoughts were interrupted suddenly and subtly by a twig breaking several feet away. Her head whipped around towards the noise, her hand touching the gun in it's holster hidden under her jacket. She didn't want to pull it out until she knew who was there, and most certainly didn't want to shoot it unless she had to. She was careful.
