GREETINGS

From a human point of view, the death of Heaven and Hell was quiet. Mortals did not notice any changes, but that doesn’t mean that there were none. Hell has risen, slipping up through the cracks, and Heaven has fallen, burning through our skies and landing them both on our humble Earth. Demons and Angels have taken human vessels and walk among the mortal humans, forced out of their homes for an unknown reason. The Apocalypse? They don't know if this is it. Neither can get in touch with their leaders, the Devil or God, so they are left to wander the Earth helplessly, but not alone. The Undead, Were-animals and Skinwalkers, beings of Hell, are also there, though having been on Earth for quite a while with Hunters on their trail. Mediums can sense these presences; more and more are realizing their power since the residents of Heaven and Hell arrived. Hundreds of other kinds of supernatural creatures roam the Earth. After all beings who couldn't take a mortal vessel have perished, leaving the rest to be imprisoned in the earthly world. Even in small town Texas, where our story takes place, mortals can not escape this otherworldly drama.

but it's all alright
He still had a limp in his leg, from where he was shot; he had been told by several doctors to take it easy, but considering his job, that wasn't much of an option. There was still a dull ache in the wounds he had sustained from the water incident, in his chest and his back, that made breathing just a bit more difficult. And now he had a black eye and some other miscellaneous scrapes from a disgruntled man who had the misfortune of having the FBI stop by for a house call (he also had the misfortune of leaping on Alex before anyone else, yelling and scratching and punching like he had gone rabid; it had taken two others to drag him off and all four of them to get him cuffed up and sent back to the station).

Alex was almost convinced that he spent a majority of his life sustaining some sort of injury. Nonetheless, he was in a better mood than most nights. Even after the incident with the man (being held now), there was a strange buoyancy about the man. He was off for the night and glad for it, glad that he was free to do whatever he wanted. Glad that, for once, doing whatever he wanted did not equate to returning to his apartment and staring into space pensively for a few hours before he managed to get to sleep.

So he found himself (still) slightly limping up to the counter of Redgrove's one and only coffee shop, a local owned little cafe rather than a Starbucks, and ordering himself some sort of latte or another. He threw in a mocha somewhere and hoped for the best, ignoring the cashier's slightly astonished look at his mangled face. Without a word, he called out the order and everyone behind the counter went to work.

While he waited for his coffee, Alex glanced around the small cafe. There were only a few other people in there, all ignoring him in favor of each other or their laptops (one woman in particular was typing furiously, ignoring everything else save for her cooling coffee). It was only when his order was called that someone new came in, and the skinwalker collected his latte and risked a scalding sip, pleased to find that it was palatable. And, just because he was feeling affable for the moment, he flashed a smile to the new customer, hoping that it might brighten their day just a bit.
