Adelaide took a deep breath of free mountain air. She could smell so much in just that one whiff. Snow, pine trees, distant animals, even the wind all with her enhanced senses. No only could she smell lots, but she could see for miles. The rolling mountains and hills surrounding her, stretched for miles becoming the Alaska Range. The majestic peaks pocked at the sky, reaching up towards the sun with hungry fingers.
Adelaide had truly found the place of her dreams. From the moment she glimpsed the mountains out her plane window, she had fallen in love with them. They had captured her heart just had the Rockies and the Appalachians had so long ago. Although there was something different about these snow covered peaks. Maybe it was because they reminded Adelaide of herself. Cold, dangerous, pale, and wild kind of beauty. They described both her beloved mountains and...herself.
Sitting at the top of Mount McKinley, Adelaide moved her legs out from under her sitting form. The snow danced around her swirling around her outstretched arms. Laughing at the sight around her, Adelaide fell back into a soft bed of snow. A memory sparked in her mind and her arms and legs moved automatically. Beneath her, the snow took an almost angel like shape.
Snow angels.... Adelaide thought and couldn't help but laugh out loud again.
Suddenly, her peaceful heaven shattered. Her nostrils flared with an unknown scent....Adelaide was no longer alone.
