Seeing as how the 76th is a global sponsor for this year's event (mostly because Beth is one of us and made a suggestion, which, like many things we do, has mutated out of control), I figured it was time I stopped lurking here and actually registered.

While some of you know me from around the place, for those that don't, I'll give a basic rundown on who I am and what I do....... other than make rambling posts online, which you may have noticed by now. So read on if you don't know me, or if you're interested in seeing if what I have to say matches up with what you think you know about me.

Although my location is in a state of flux these days (Adelaide one week, other places the next), I'm still listed as an Adelaide dweller according to my official paperwork, so that I guess that adds me to the list of AdelCoats on here. When I'm not searching for somewhere more permanent to live, I class myself as a consultant in the field(s) of International Relations / International Security. While the work pays quite nicely, actually getting the contracts is the tricky bit, and the paperwork relating to taxes is far from fun, but I digress.

When I'm not out of town, or sick (stupid cold refuses to fade), I'm also a volunteer firefighter with the local Country Fire Service brigade. Unlike our interstate counterparts, here in SA we do the lot, rather than just fight bushfires (and leave the rest to the paid fire service). This means I have the shiny qualifications that allow me to cut up vehicles in collisions or wander through toxic goo whilst wearing a suit of laminated paper.

On the Firefly front, I'm one of the founding members of the 76th Independent Battalion and as such, helping to provide the CSTS events with some swag to give out as prizes. Since I'm not sure what the rules on promoting other sites is, I'll just provide a link to Our Forums rather than go on in detail about us.

In retrospect, this looks to have gone on longer than I intended, and also seems epic in length compared to the other posts in this thread so I'll shut up now.

Hi all, I'm Manda :)

I found about this shindig through whedonesque, which I have just started to frequent daily. I'm a gamer and a geek, and kinda like it that way. I live in rural NSW (Southern Highlands) and have slowly but surely converting everyone that I know into geekness. I used to be the president of the big gaming guild here, but I'm taking a break at the moment and only organising trips to GenCon, SydCon, Supanova and this event when it happens at the moment.

When I'm not nerding out with my hubby and friends, I work at an IT place and attempt a full time uni load.

When you said Rural, I thought you meant really rural. Southern Highlands isn't that far ;) Mind you, it does seem pretty far when I stupidly decided to drive home (penrith) from the southern highlands at 12:30am

Yeah, I think the city is slowly starting to creep up to us. Used to be a hell of a lot longer to get into central then it is now.

My husband and I just did a Saturday trip to Windsor to pick up a new car, and that was a fairly long drive. Long and slow (Old North Rd speed limits are painful) - and I certainly wouldn't have wanted to attempt it at 12.30am in the morning

Hi all :D I'm Aeryn, and I hail from New South Wales - found my way here via a post in the aus_cult_tv community at LiveJournal. I became a Browncoat last year, after renting out Serenity from my local video store. So yes, this does mean I did things somewhat in reverse, but I did buy the series DVDs very soon afterwards. :P Hope to see a few of you at the Sydney screening - I'm definitely going to head up that way when the time comes. Should be fun. :D
