Title: Keepsakes

sigilbaram - July 30, 2012 07:10 PM (GMT)
Do tamers have any leeway when it comes to keepsakes? IE could a Guardian have Silver instead of bronze/gold? Or is that kind of thing set in stone?

Chaos Shadow - July 30, 2012 07:12 PM (GMT)
Given that it's part of the ranking identification system (plus 'team colors' and stuff), yeah, that's kinda set in stone.

sigilbaram - July 30, 2012 07:34 PM (GMT)
K. I thought that might be the answer, but one can dream (just to have Chaos crush those dreams). I suppose I can suffer XD

Well... you could always leave the faction and then "deface" the item.

If you renegade from the Mirage Guardians then your cloak gets "slashed and torn to shreds", but why not sew that baby back together and dye it orange? Or maybe give your cracked Empire ring to the guys from "cash-4-gold" if you defect from them?

TaurenHugger - July 31, 2012 02:48 PM (GMT)
"B-but... You were such a wonderful Guardian! You were one of our best members- why would you betray us like this?!"

*casual shrug* "I hate the color bronze"

Axel Wildfire - July 31, 2012 03:08 PM (GMT)
Hey that's an idea.
An item or ability that hides your rank for a lower one (or simply a customized one). Since you'd have to be at that rank to customize it in the first place it wouldn't be an issue, although that would have considerably less use than just straight up pretending to be a lower rank.

Oh no, no, deary.

Danielle would never leave the Guardians. One, because she is way to Lawful Good to be apart of any other team. Two, because Danielle has serious self-confidence issues, and needs that team as a safety net in her mind.

Nova - July 31, 2012 09:35 PM (GMT)
But why even do all that?

You can use alchemy to change the form of your cloak. (Hell, Nova's Cloak is never in Cloak form. He wears it as an Bandana around his neck all the time.)

Or you could have your own custom item build, I'm sure there is no rule against that... long as you make it so it has no real effects besides style.

Just an idea.

Axel Wildfire - July 31, 2012 10:47 PM (GMT)
Isn't that what Sigil was asking when Chaos noped him...?

Mai - July 31, 2012 11:01 PM (GMT)
Well as long as the fabric is blue and the badge bronze/gold (and displaying the proper rank), then yeah, you can change it.

However I could see the Mirage Guardians being turned off by changes, as most of them don't like things outside the 'norm' and want everything to be uniform and pristine.

Nova - July 31, 2012 11:14 PM (GMT)
*Must not be talking about this Mirage Guardian.*

You can use alchemy on things other than your weapon and armor? I thought that, aside from the weapon and armor, you needed something like data manipulation, or sewing skills, to make changes to stuff.

Chaos Shadow - July 31, 2012 11:26 PM (GMT)
It's an exclusive trait of the Guardian Cloak, as explicitly mentioned on the team page. None of the other keepsakes can be modified like that. And none of them can have their colors modified, either. They're a symbol of team unity; the only off-color ones denote the leader and their second-in-command.

Think of it kind of like team colors, as I think I said earlier. If you're part of a team, you'll wear their colors and their uniform. You might want to be a special snowflake and do something different, but that defies the concept of unity.

sigilbaram - August 1, 2012 12:38 AM (GMT)
Well I was mostly just wondering if the badge could be Silver instead of bronze.... which was a no so I can suffer. XD

It's cool alchemy works with the cloak though. (I don't see anything about that on the faction/guardian pages btw... Unless it is mentioned without using the words alchemy or cloak anywhere nearby...)

As an aside what does "Special variations include that which are held by the DigiDestined, in which the light blue designs of the cloak are instead embroidered in gold thread." apply too? Is this player characters in general or those with the occupation upgrades? I see now that DigiDestined is actually the name of the Mirage Guardian occupation upgrade... <.<

So, continuing on this line of thought, are the light blue/gold designs standard or are they different for each tamer, and if they are something that are unique are they required or could you skip out on them? And are they something that would be changeable or are they static, IE when you profession upgrade or via alchemy?

Chaos Shadow - August 1, 2012 12:45 AM (GMT)
I assume you might be able to manipulate those as part of the Alchemy connection, but Ray's the one who did that so he'll be the one to weight in on it.

Ray Za Yueryuu - August 1, 2012 04:46 PM (GMT)
Hmm. That's odd, the bit about using Alchemy with the cloaks is missing. I'll need to fix that at some point.

Anyway, let's see. A Guardian who has Alchemy can magically change the shape of their cloak, but they cannot change the patterns. The patterns change themselves to adapt to the new form factor. Additionally, you can't change the clasp at all.

Standard rank cloaks are dark blue, with light blue patterns on the cloak, and a bronze clasp.

Higher rank cloaks (belonging to those with the occupation upgrade) are the same dark blue, and have the same bronze clasp, but with gold patterns on the cloak instead of blue.

The Seraphim and ArchAngel rank cloaks are the same dark blue, with the higher rank's gold patterns, but have a much lighter blue (close to cyan) clasp.

Fun fact #1: In the thread Contact, because Ray was soaked shortly before his entrance, and he needed a dry change of clothes on short notice, he transmuted his cloak into a shirt. A really gaudy dark blue and gold shirt, which no one has commented on.

Fun fact #2: It's been half a decade since the inception of the Guardian Cloak, and I still haven't created the actual visual design. Whenever I've drawn Ray wearing it, it's always been sans patterns. The reason for this is because the original description for the embroidered patterns was that they were intricate and circuitry-like.

Fun fact #3: Transmuting the cloak can repair tears, or dry it out. The exceptions to this are the cloaks of renegades, which can no longer be transmuted.

sigilbaram - August 1, 2012 04:54 PM (GMT)
Just to clarify, does that mean the pattern is the same for all the members? You answered all my other questions, just this one seems like you where possibly sort of implying but not very explicit I guess, so I'm not entirely sure if you meant all cloaks or just Ray's with the circuitry pattern part.

Ray Za Yueryuu - August 1, 2012 05:27 PM (GMT)
Yes, all cloaks have the same pattern, but with those two colour variations.

The clasp can be seen hung on Ray's jacket breast pocket in this image. On one half is the insignia of the Holy Elementals, and on the other is the Tamer's Crest, when they obtain it.

sigilbaram - August 1, 2012 05:43 PM (GMT)
Ah thanks. It's nice to know more about the cloak as Alice will most likely will be a Guardian, mainly due to the fact that she was basically the equivalent in her own world to begin with.

I've been running around a lot the past couple weeks so I haven't gotten as much back story and questing done as I had been hoping to. >.< Although, they are still coming along MUCH better than anything ever did for Sigil...

Maybe I'll just say she is a Guardian and come up with a story for how she joined later or something... I did plop her into war games as if she was there with either the Guardians or Addo.
