Yep, there's a number of ways to get onto the PM bit. You can click on the person's username, and click the 'click here' next to private message, under communicating.

Also, at the top right of the page, theres the word inbox, followed by the number of unread mail you have. If you click that, you can select 'compose new message' from the menu on the left.
