In Blue Bloods there are two types of vampires,
those that follow a code and those that do not:
BLUE BLOODS and
CROATANS.

The elite of society. All have great wealth from investing, starring in films and photo spreads, and by holding government jobs. They are vampires, but they are not without a code. They do not feed off of other vampires. They do not even feed off of humans consecutively, having to wait 48 hours between drinks, and they never drain their victims dry.
They live forever, but not always at the same time or as the same person. Their blood is thousands of years old -- spanning back to the beginning of time when as followers of Lucifer they were banished from heaven to live out their immortal lives on earth. The Blue Bloods are merely fallen angels reborn with one soul purpose: to once again be admitted into Paradise.
Unfortunately, every generation of Blue Bloods pushes the race farther from that goal. Their parties are extravagant. Many choose to flaunt their wealth and power instead of using it for good. Some have lost their way, but in the eyes of the world, they are merely average socialites. What humans would think to look right under their noses for immortal creatures.

Also known as Silver Bloods, the vampires that refuse to be tamed. They are animal-like, taking what they want when they want it. They feed off other vampires and suck their life force, devouring their souls to gain their abilities and strength. By doing so, Silver Bloods become demented. Their minds become a prison for the spirits of the Blue Bloods they consume, driving them to insanity.
They are very powerful and uninhibited. Little is known about them today, in the modern world, but when America was discovered they killed Blue Bloods in the masses. After a few decades, the deaths dwindled, and the Blue Bloods began to feel safe... at least until now. A Croatan is back, and is creating more Silver Bloods to follow him. No Blue Blood is safe from mortality anymore. Not even the wisest and most powerful among them.
In the world of Blue Bloods there are three types of humans:
RED BLOODS, FAMILIARS, and CONDUITS.

Humans who are unaware of the vampire race and live like any normal person would. Red Bloods go out clubbing and attend school. They buy from high end shops and stare up at the billboards in Times Square, not even conscious of the hidden society within their midst. Vampires surround them. The most beautiful celebrities and even senators are Blue Bloods, and most Red Bloods never even know it.

Those that give of themselves to vampires: sometimes willingly, sometimes because they are under a vampire's spell. Familiars are sources of food for vampires and, once taken, cannot be claimed by any other Blue Blood. By taking a familiar, a Blue Blood creates a bond with that person, linking the two for eternity. From the first bite on, a familiar will be inexplicably consumed by thoughts of the Blue Blood that claimed them.
Their reaction is something that resembles love, but many Blue Bloods would attest that it is more like obsession. This result helps Blue Bloods access their familiars for blood at any time. Many familiars and Blue Bloods are mistaken for couples, and some are... in the eyes of the humans, but familiars are never allowed to be life partners. Familiars can only be used once every 48 hours because blood letting exhausts the body; however, not all vampires obey this rule, and sometimes familiars are abused.

Human families that are traditionally assigned to protect vampires lines. Unfortunately, in their hubris, many Blue Blood families assume that they are too strong to need protecting. Only certain Blue Blood families still keep Conduits, who are assigned to vampires at birth.
Those who aren't connected to a family either fade out of the Conduit world or work in the Repository of History, below The Bank and Block 122, to keep the Blue Bloods' history safe from prying eyes. Conduits can also work as doctors, lawyers, accountants, or financiers, either for a specific family, or for the Blue Blood world as a whole.
Conduits are guardians and protectors, but they are also looked down upon by most Blue Bloods as nothing more than servants. However, not all Conduits are mistreated. Most assigned Conduits and Blue Bloods are best friends. Some see the injustice in the way Conduits are treated.
NOTICE! Whether you are a Conduit is something designated at birth. Either you are born into a family of Conduits or you are not: the ancient practice is passed down through tradition and taught from an early age.
