Title: Considering Cosplay
Lurad - February 7, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
I've been interested in trying cosplay. however i don't know where or how to start. First off i don't have any idea's on how to get and/make costumes. also i feel very limited about choice. one being a guy and i don't have a wide experience with anime yet.
as far as i know there isn't anything coming up that I am able to go to so as for now time is no issue

start by choosing a character you'd like to be.
decide if you can stand crossplay or if you want to stick to male characters XD
then find as many pics of the character you picked, try to get detailed pics of the costume from several angles.
break down the costume into pieces.
most male costumes can be made by modifying regular clothes.
can't really help with anymore till you've picked a character

For your first costume, PICK SOMETHING EASY.
Well, unless you just want to commission a costume from someone, anyway.

i've have no idea yet can you guys/girls make some suggestions.

I got a good deal of pics of Van from the TV series. I'm not gonna go with the movie one well because i don't think people want to see me with out a shirt. may mentally scar someone. as for what I'm thinking about it I'll go without the wings. he hides them anyway. as for the sword in his costume I'm not sure how to handle that. granted I do have a two handed sword, but i don't think its a good idea to carry a weapon.
Should i post some of the pics i gathered.

yes pics please.
as for sword, you can get foam board insulation at home improvement stores (home depot, lowes) that you can cut into the right shape. slap on some paint, tape etc and you have a sword.
get the 1.5 inch for stability, or if you use a thiner sheet you can put on a layer of paper mache to give it stability and prevent breakage, which is strips of paper (news paper) and glue (thinned elmers works) paper mache tutorial

Usually, you upload the picture from your hard drive to the Internet via a website like Photobucket or Imageshack. Then you link it in a post or plug it in with [img] tags.

shirt: buy a plain dark red t-shirt from a craft store, cut off the sleeves and the collar, use a white shoe lace to make the crosses and lacing at the collar
pants: white painters jeans with the pockets removed off would work
boots: either buy similar or make boot covers
belt: basic wide brown belt, either purchase or make out of fake leather fabric
sword: wooden sword painted light blue and gold
gloves: cheap dark brown work gloves would work
wig: decide of you want to use temporary dye or buy a wig
