Welcome to Sapphos Weyr! This is your lovely news scroller, so if you aren't familiar with it, press start and stop to make it move and stop. It's pretty nifty, eh?

Turnover brought a swift and decisive end to the War of the Weyrs. In a peace summit held at Sapphos, it was agreed not only that Pern required as many dragons and their riders as possible, but that it was detrimental to the future of the world to continue the destructive raids.

High Reaches Weyr is now populated by a bizarre mix of Sapphos, Igen, and Ista riders. Several members of the Tiger Clan, including the ‘other’ matriarch, have fled to the cold North. T’sai perished in Threadfall.

While the weyrleaders argued in a peace summit, a harem was gathered from those at the festivities. Among them were Pern’s youngest rider, one of the calcium riders and his cobalt, and the lover of Yeskith’s steward. Staren mounted a search, and successfully retrieved the captives.

The weyr holds its collective breath as the wait continues for one of the queens to take Flight. Will it be Takhisith? Jennath? Balath?

Rupture has returned! This devastating illness has not been seen in several Turns, but the virus that causes it has mutated. Those who were vaccinated against the old Rupture may still fall to this new version.

Rider's Weyrs
The Weyrs of Sapphos consist of natural caves and large clearings. Near the clearings are huts for the riders, often lushly furnished with whatever the riders can afford. Riders in the caves either sleep in the caves or have huts outside the caves.

The Goldhome houses the Weyr's fertile golds and any hopeful candidates. It's not too far from Sapphos Weyrtown.

The Weyrling Clearing
The walls surround these barracks. The gates close at a certain time. Anyone caught outside gets to sleep outside the gate in the cold. Inside the gates, huts are set up and a small pond exists for the purpose of bathing dragonets. The Weyrling Central is the largest building here--the Weyrling Master sleeps here, and the indoor classrooms are kept here. Gear is also stored around back. At six months, Weyrlings will move to small clearing-weyrs around the main walls, which will serve as models for their future clearings.

The Black River
This wide, slow-moving portion of the river is perfect for bathing dragons and humans alike. Plenty of the Weyr can be seen crowding on the sands on a hot summer day.

Sapphos Weyrtown, as it's affectionately called, is the central area where all the weyrfolk live. The current Headwoman lives here as well, regardless of her status. Weyrtown consists of many huts. There's a wing designed specifically to protect it from Thread.

The Proper
The newest building in the ruin, this gorgeous wooden building is two stories high and currently houses the Lord Holder and his servants, as well as any ranking member of the Hold. The aim is to turn it into a boarding house for visiting sailors once the Lord's real home is built. Until then, non-residents will sleep in taverns, willing residences, and their ships.

The Creature Den
Where the Watchrider and the wher-handlers live, the Creature Den is a collection of caves. The mouth is up a slope on the beach, and the caves themselves are formed into the face of a large limestone cliff. A lighthouse, run by dragonmen, is placed at the top of the cliff.

The Docks
Here is where the sailors are. The docks also include the shops that have opened up, hawking goods from Deep Trees and Sapphos Hold, with intentions of sending them up North. Also found are the traders who will take Northern goods to Sapphos and Deep Trees.

Handler Holds
Like cotholds, these living quarters of wher handlers are modeled after the weyrs of Sapphos. A village-sized gathering of huts are available, but those needing a more secure area can find a cave hold.

Hatching Cavern
Tall enough to fit a blue dragon, the only way into this secure place is a carefully guarded tunnel. Female whers come here to lay their eggs in the sand that was imported from a near beach.

Hatching Grounds
This traditional hatching grounds has a large expanse of pale sand for queens to use for clutching, and stands erected around the edges. The entrance can be found in the weyrbowl.

Traditional stone weyrs compose most of the High Reaches. Riders are free to choose their own weyrs once they graduate, though wings have a tendency to weyr near each other.

Seven Spires
High Reaches gets their name from these seven reaching towers of stone. Weyrlings use these as visual practice for between, and small dragons may perch here for short periods of time.
