I'm going to be doing research myself, but there is a lot of research to be done. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about any of the Greek mythology, the gods like Zeus, Hades, etc.

My reason for wanting this is for a story I'm trying to write that deals with all the gods.

It's basically about a god that doesn't want to be a god, so he makes a deal with his father and goes to down the the "mortal world" aka earth, and tries their style of living for the time being. Well, he meets a girl, falls in love with her in a sense of the way, and because of his feelings towards her he ends up getting her in trouble and she almost/does die. I haven't decided yet. But that's the basic plot, if it helps any.

So, does anyone have any myths they know? Or any good recoomendations for places that I should go looking first? Any jump starts on research is always a help and I appreciate it.

Well I think you should be searching for a HALF GOD. It's basically a god with a human mother and a god of a father. All the Gods in Greek Mythology lives on the top of the Olympus moutain. Zevs had a lot of children, I have a map somewhere with whom he got kids with and all the kids o.O Not sure where my book is, but I'll search for it..

I think you could give Aphrodite a quick search too, I think she fell in love with a human, and I think they got a child, eros/amor, or something... a love child, with bow and all, ya know..

I'll go look for that book now, but I'll be glad to help, I didn't learn much about greek mytology in school, but I had arthistory and colture for three years, so the names of the buildings, and the style of the pillars are still in my head if you need em


There are twelve gods at the mountain of Olympus:(north greece)
Everyone of them has an attribute, and they were all basically gods of nature, and were worshipped in the nature, often were it was very beautiful, or placed that stood out. Like High cliffs--

The top of the mountain is almost always covered in clouds(like inHercules)
The first god is Zeus, the god of thunder/lightning.. at most times he has a beard, and the lighting in his hand. His wife was Hera who was the goddess for families.

Athene, daughter of zeus, was born out of his forhead. She's always dressed in a armour, and she represents the clear thought.
Poseidon, Zeus brother, is the ruler of the sea.
Artemis, sister of Apollon, she was the goddess of huting, mostly her statues are with a bow and arrow..
Apollon, was the god of art and science.
Apghrodite, of course the goddess of love.
Dionysos, was the god for wine, though he used to be somehitng else..
Demeter was the corn goddess..
Hermes was the god for the travelling, he was also the god's messanger, (you know in hercules he has wings on his hat and feet) he also brought the dead humans to Hades.
Hermes isn't one of the 12 gods, but he takes care of the underworld.
Ares was the god of war, and disturbans, .
Hefaistos, was both a smith, and a volcano god, he was married to Aphrodite( I think he was a half god too)..

Zevs + Metis = athene (father and mother got their daughter)

Zevs+ Leto = Apollon and Atemis

Zevs + Alkmene = Herakles( Hercules)

Zevs + Danae = Persevs

Zevs + Europa = Minos

Zevs + Leda = Helena

there are loads more of his children like, Dionysos, Hermes, etc.. hell he got too many children..

Aphrodite + Ankhises = Æneas.

By the way, in your story Zevs would probably be the most logicall reason for his father, since he's the top guy, and he's known to have had many womens, so it's not difficult to create another son for him

Plus he's sons were, Apollon, Hercules, Hermes, Dionysos, Ares, Hefasistos, and probably Persevs(if that is a male name)..
If Minons is a male name, he too is his son..

I was planning on making Zeus the father and probably a mortal a mother, but the son knows who he is and how he is a half-god type thing. Either that or I bend the rules of god-dom and do it another way.

I'm sorry Ash, but I didn't find the book
But I don't think there were much more in it, just some locations perhapse for altars and where they would pray to their Gods and Goddess perhapse.. Like out in the nature, where the nature was at its most beautiful or something
