they suck, i know, but they are something that should be read and followed.
the magic words you need for your ticket in are somewhere here.
they're a random phrase that doesn't seem to make sense.
and you can't find them using ctrl + f.
and i'll know if you haven't read the rules.
so for your own sake, just take a look at them.
if you have any problems, feel free to contact any admin.
i. STARTERS
we're just going to cover what you do when you sign up on the board. so first of all, check out the plot to see if you wanna join. please note, there are canons, but you are free go wild with your character. just not too wild. then you've gotta read me (aka the rules) and then go off to reserve yourself a face claim. now, with registering, please use a first and last name. after you're done with that, grab a copy of the application code and fill it out. when you're finished with that, post it in the 'pending applications' forum and then an admin will look over it. once you've been approved, then go and mosey on over to the face claim thread to confirm your claim, and then start posting! simple as that.
ii. IMAGES
please refrain from posting large images on the board, period. as i've discovered, the current board is over the usual 800x600 resolution in width, so it isn't extremely friendly to those users that have that current resolution. so please, if you are going to post images that are going to stretch the board, please use a link instead. it would be much appreciated. for face claims, please avoid using myspace/scene kids. personally, i'm a little sick of them but that's just me and if i see ten scene kids on here i think i might slit my wrists. so if you do plan on using one, let's just keep it down to a moderate number. as much as they are a minority, let's keep it that way. this may be an role play, but the world is not overrun by scene kids. and it's hell of a lot easier to use celebs for face claims and it's for the purpose for you finding images and icons. speaking of icons, for signatures, you may either use two rows of 100x100 icons, a maximum of eight in total, or a banner of any size. just as long as it doesn't stretch the board/topics, then i'll be fine.
icons – now, i know that most icons are snagged of livejournal and i honestly, do that too. but since i've become an icon maker over there, i now know the importance of crediting the image. i've seen another user hotlink [ which is a crime my friends ] my images and use it in their signature on another board that i wasn't even on. so please, if you could just write a little note in the bottom of your signature to credit the maker of the icons that you've snagged off lj [ and include the link to where you got it from! ] and i'll be extremely happy.
now just above, the word 'hotlink' was in capitals. what's hotlinking? well, it's when you take the source of the original image and use the same link again. what this does is increase the person's bandwidth, and if you're using photobucket, you'll know that you have a 10gb limit each month for bandwidth. now that does seem a lot of space, but when you're on a board such as this, you're constantly refreshing and going to pages with the icons on it and this all accumulates on the bandwidth. not to mention that wherever you got that image from, other users are continually refreshing and viewing that page as well. so please, if you do save images from anywhere, even in our graphics forum, please upload it to your own server. you can get free accounts at photobucket or imageshack.
iii. GENERAL
no god-modding – now that's a very simple rule. if you have no idea what the heck that is, then it means that you don't say what happens to a character you don't have control of. there is an example of god-modding below. and that my friends, is a big no no. why is it such a big deal? well mainly it's because you're posting as yourself, not as the other character. and seriously, you're not god even if you wanted to be. so tough luck.
example ; "eric shoved jack down the stairs and he fell down twenty flights, his head cracking open at the bottom. jack bled severely and died from blood loss."
punctuation! punctuation is your friend... as well as the spacebar. that is your friend as well. oh, not to mention that spell check is also your friend. i don't know how many times i have cringed over bad spelling. i know that the new version of firefox has a spell check built into it, but i am unsure of any other browsers. if you could, quickly proof read your post before hitting that 'submit' button, and we'll all be smiley. now i've now become partial with posts all in lower case, and you'll see that from me. i suppose people can get frustrated with that, but hey, if you want to do it too, that's fine because i'll be doing it now. no chat speak during posts... please. correct english should be used for all posts. the only place where you can use chat speak is when you're in the im forums or if you're texting. cheers. if you want to make a comment that isn't part of the post, either post it in brackets " [] () " or use "ooc:". and try to avoid double posting, the edit button is your friend for posts.
try to keep as active as possible as you can. if you can't get on for a day because of school work or you're out for a day, that's completely fine. but if you're going to be away for an extended period of time, please let us know. now as for character limits, i'm going to put a stop at four, and no more. i mean, if you're superman or superwoman and can handle up to six or seven, then please tell admin via and we'll consider it. but for myself, i usually max out my characters with boys, but if you usually play girls, try to at least have one boy, cheers.
no human being is perfect, and neither should your character. admin won't be accepting anybody without flaws, period.
this board is r rated. so if there is any sex in here, which is probably going to be a regular occurrence here with the rampant hormones of young adults, then put a '[m]' at the end of the title of the thread. if the sex does happen in a middle of a thread, and unexpectedly, then just contact either an admin or mod to get them to add it for you. and y'know, if you're not comfortable with the sex, then just tell the other person. i don't think they're gonna bite your head off for not wanting to write some smut. 'thinkin' of the roar'. the same thing applies with pregnancies, marriages and deaths. sure it's a part of life itself, but it doesn't need to be repeated to death. if you want a either of the aforementioned, clear it with the person you plan to role play it through and then clear it with admin. if we see that it fits into the storyline, then we'll give you the green light to go ahead.
no one-liners, or one sentence posts. i would love to see people putting a good effort into a post and a good effort to me is 2-3 paragraphs. please try to stick to this as best you can because i know sometimes it can be a little hard, but it just makes it a whole lot easier to reply to something with substance. if you really can't think of anything to add to your post, why don't you describe the character's surroundings, the colour of the leaves, the grass that's dying because of the current drought. just anything that will give your fellow role player something to reply to. please write your posts up in third person and in the past tense. it just makes more sense, doesn't it?
if your application has been denied, don't feel offended. all you would have to do is make the following corrections and/or suggestions that admin has replied with and you should be all set to go when you've done them.
and most importantly...
have some fun. don't forget, it's just a role-play board.
