summer and taylor walked into the country club and a smile immediately formed on her lips. the place looked great. okay, so zach and luke were supposed to come with her and taylor, but the girls ended up running late and summer thought it would be way more romantic if he seen her at the actual dance. summer truly thought they might rekindle their romance by the end up the night....and if all went well, maybe even go home together. "tay tay, do you see zach anywhere?" she asked, annoyed that he wasn't right in her vision.

she quickly looked around to stupid marissa cooper, but so far, she didn't see her and her uber loser best friend, seth cohen. maybe they decided to stay home and like...play video games.

Marissa could feel butterflies rising in her stomach the moment she was dressed for the oscar night event. She couldn't help but feel like a lot would be determined that very night. Things could either go really well or else really badly... and she was afraid to think of all the possibilities. Worst case scenario, Ryan would decide that Marissa wasn't worth the time and become another one of those popular kids who ignored her... and she really didn't want that to happen.

The moment Marissa and the rest of her family reached the country club, her parents went their own way to socialize and help run the event. Marissa was immediately alone. Where the hell was Seth? And where was Ryan? The people she could see, however, where Summer and Taylor... and she definitely didn't want to have much to do with them, but neither did she want to hang around, waiting awkwardly for someone to arrive.

Figuring the best thing she could do was walk around as though she had some sort of purpose and something to do, Marissa walked through the crowd, heading for the refreshment table. Unfortunately, Summer and Taylor were standing right in the pathway to the table. She had had every intention of walking right by them and pretending she didn't notice them, but as she appraoched their genreal location her eyes automatically glanced over at them. What else could she have done, though, she couldn't find a path that didn't go right through them. "Excuse me," she said, placing a hand on her hip and waiting for them to do something.

taylor couldn't believe that summer had actually successfully dragged her to this event. it had taken a hell of a lot of bitching before taylor was finally dressed. tonight she was finally going to be meeting this infamous boy that luke was so convinced could be good for her. apparently, he actually liked her. now the two girls were making their way into the party with their heads held high and a grin on their faces. butterflies danced in taylor's stomach as they aimlessly walked around in search of luke and zach. after all, the boys were practically their dates. ew. "summer will you stop looking around for zach? you promised you wouldn't ditch me, remember?" taylor playfully elbowed her best friend in the stomach, but moved out of the way before summer's rage blackout could come into effect and she could do the same back to an unsuspecting taylor.

before taylor could speak again, she heard a familiar voice. marissa cooper. taylor looked up at marissa with her usual cheerful grin. "sorry about that marissa." she moved aside to allow the taller girl to pass through them. "hope you have fun tonight. tootles!" taylor waved to her with her free hand as the other held onto summer's arm.

okay, so she wouldn't ditch taylor. a promise was a promise. and she knew if she did, taylor would kick some serious butt. "tay, i'm not going to ditch you. i promise." she said, the girls giggling a bit together as summer continued to look around for the two muskateers. still no sign of them. they were probably outside, flirting with stupid freshman or something. or, zach better not be-- but her thoughts were interuppted by a tall skinny person speaking. she looked up and to her surprise...marissa cooper. before summer could respond, taylor gave marissa her usual cheery response and moved summer out of the way. summer noted that taylor kept her arm on hers, probably attempting to stop her from pouncing on the skinny ass.

"oh i'm sorry...were we in your way?" she asked in a sarcastic tone, then rolled her eyes. "nice dress. i personally would have went with something a little longer to cover up your skinny ass legs." she said, then sent marissa a bubbly wave as she took a hold of taylor's hand and walked away. "he better not be flirting with whores!" she said once they were out of ear shot from marissa.

"oh i'm sorry...were we in your way?"

Marissa raised her eyebrows a little at Summer's attitude. Summer didn't used to be such a bitch, but I guess that's what popularity does to some people. Summer had always been more feisty... but never flat-out mean like she was being now. As for Taylor... Marissa wasn't sure whether she appreciated that Taylor was being so nice or if she resented it. It's easy to be friendly to the world when you're the one gaining friends rather than losing them.

Marissa caught herself almost looking down at her legs to see if Summer was right. She wasn't going to give her that satisfaction. It was very tempting, though, and she knew she'd be checking herself in the mirror as soon as she got the chance to. Her legs weren't bad, were they? Either way, she would have loved to shoot back that Summer had done them all a favor by covering her stumpy ones, but maybe it was better that she hadn't gotten the chance to say that before Summer walked away. These events usually attracted drama, and Marissa didn't want to start making herself the focus of it. Instead, she focused on heading to the bathroom to check how she looked one more time... she wanted to make sure her legs looked alright.

ryan let out a deep sigh as he stood in front of the mirror in his bedroom . he fidgeted with his tie , trying to tie it properly . his eyebrows knitted together in confusion , as the tie kept tying in a knot-sort-of-fashion . after about five attempts , he let out a grunt , and put it on his bed . he fixed his collar so it didn't look odd or formal , and he jetted down the stairs . as he ran down the stairs , he passed trey watching TV. "trey , man , are you coming?" he heard his brother grunt , and respond , "hell no," . ryan merely rolled his eyes , then shouted , "bye!" and then shut the door behind him .

the sun was setting , and he was already feeling quite nervous . and he had no ride . how great ? his mom and dad were out of town , and trey's truck was borrowed by friends . he raised his head to the sky , letting out a deep breath . he kicked a soccer ball out of the way in mild anger , and stood on the sidewalk , annoyed . a few seconds later , a huge truck came by , and zach was in it . zach squinted out the window to see who the guy was . "hey , you!" he called out , and ryan looked up , with raised eyebrows . "are you ryan at-something?" zach asked , sticking his head out the window . "atwood ... and yes?" ryan answered , in a confused voice . zach broke out into a grin , and nodded . "cool , luke told me about you!" he called back out , then patted the seat , "get in!" all ryan could do was smile , and say "uh , thanks!"

meanwhile , lindsey arrived at the party in a periwinkle dress . clutching her handbag , she was rather nervous . she had never really came to any of these things before - she was just not one of those people . and she was not very interested in watching people make out all night - so she hoped that none of that would be happening . she sighed , and sat down on a chair alone at a table , biting her lip nervously .

zach and ryan finally both arrived on the scene , talking rather happily . they both raised their eyebrows at the sight of the party , and zach shot ryan a look . "there's summer," he nodded in her direction . ryan followed his look , and squinted his eyes , but mainly because he was looking for marissa - plus , seth had told him all about summer . "and taylor by her side," zach added , referring to the light brunette beside her . ryan raised his eyebrows . "taylor ... taylor townsend?" he asked with a hint of interest in his voice , then zach replied enthusiastically , "yeah! i'll introduce you two," he said with a grin , and a wink .
zach and ryan slowly approached taylor and summer , and zach put up his hand to wave . "heeyy , summer ! ... taylor," he acknowledged , then showed his hands to ryan . "this is ryan... and he's very pleased to meet you , taylor," zach introduced , sending a smile ryan's way - but ryan merely winced . "uh , thanks man," ryan told zach , then looked at taylor , trying to hide his nerves . he looked around for marissa some more , and bit his lip , as he did not see her .

zach! and...ryan. wow, he was really hot. once zach did the introductions, summer decided to leave taylor and ryan alone to get to know each other. "tay, i'm going to uhm...go with...zach..." she began, knowing taylor was about to send summer a glare, but before she could. she took a hold of zach's hand and dragged him away from taylor and ryan. she pulled him into a quiet corner and sent him her dimpled smile. "you look really handsome." she said, fixing the collar of his jacket a bit as she looked up into his eyes, leaving a kiss on his cheek.

"reallllly good." she said, a small giggle escaping her perfectly glossed lips.
